Watching Kostin float on Sturm's second goal shows you advanced stats are pretty much meaningless. That 4th line can't be trusted to play against the other team's top 6. It's not a shutdown line like Helm/LGD.

No one said, it should go against top6 line.

It should go against opposite 4th, and then they will win their game.

The 1 yer deal was great but then to find out Yzerman "agreed" to move Kane to a Cup contender if the team is not in the playoff hunt... brilliant. This could be the best rehab contract ever signed. Say Kane is all the way back, adjusted for age. What does a built to win NOW team give up for him?

didn't they both say they have no intention of trading him in the multiple interviews they've done...

Couples marry with no intent of divorce, but have a prenup.

HUH?

No idea but an analogy in there somewhere.

If this team is out of the hunt at the deadline, and Yzerman decides to sell off players, he'll talk to Kane. Patrick will make that call but I've read the gentleman's' agreed is, if he wants to go, Yzerman will make it happen.

Kane is in the Driver seat..

Reportedly, one of Kane's top priorities was getting another chance to compete for a Stanley Cup. Well in his contract Kane has made a deal with the Red Wings to make sure that they will deal him at the deadline if they fall out of the playoff race, he also has a no trade clause, this allows him to pick the team he wants to be traded to.

I could see him moving to a new team next year in FA but not this year at all. If anything, he is using us to do a couple things: inch closer to all-time list of american born players in points, play with dbc (it really looks like he is having fun with him right now), and showcase his play before his real, first time FA.

so literally no concrete evidence then. Got it.

In this case, I am going to go ahead and go on my twitter account and say that we already traded for markstrom/lindholm/hanifin for perron/maatta/petry/copp/reimer/husso/and a 7th rounder. Don't worry guys, I'll make it look really legit. Just need to wait until yzerman is ready to say go.

Ideally your 4th line can handle any line. That's how you win Cups, remember the "Grind Line"? Even the Helm/LGD line faced top lines.

The other alternative is to have the 4th line be a true checking line where the opponent won't play the top line to avoid injury. Kostin is the only heavy hitter.

Stevie needs to figure out what he's doing with that 4th line. It's a spare parts line this season.

Could the Red Wings Trade Patrick Kane?

During the most recent episode of Insider Trading on TSN, Pierre LeBrun hinted at the possibility of a trade involving Patrick Kane if the Red Wings face challenges in maintaining their playoff contention. LeBrun disclosed that discussions between Kane’s agent, Pat Brisson, and Detroit’s general manager, Steve Yzerman, took place before the accomplished player joined the Red Wings. These talks explored potential scenarios, including the prospect of Kane seeking a new team for another playoff opportunity and the Red Wings getting an asset if they miss the postseason.

He LITERALLY said, I what I posted.

so you believe that yzerman, the same yzerman that refuses to tell anyone anything and makes sure all of his employees follow the same creed, would have told a "hockey insider" who is wrong a hell of a lot with privileged information such as this?

or maybe the agent leaked it for his client as a just in case measure.

now I think we both got it....great use of the caps though, really got my attention

The Grind Line was never the 4th line. A lot of playoffs series they were effectively the 2nd line. In '01-'02 Draper (5th), Maltby (6th), McCarty (8th) all were top 8 in forward TOI/gm in the playoffs. The Grind Line of our heyday would be like the Copp/Compher/Ras line that coach was tossing out early in the season. Definitely not a 4th line but a 2nd/3rd line matchup monster. And TOI-wise the current trio almost lines up. All three are top 8 in forward TOI/gm.

I've never heard of a MUST TRADE clause, lol.

I'm sure if the Wings are out of the playoffs, and Kane requests a trade that Stevie would honor that request. Stevie tried to trade Zadina when he requested it, wound up terminating his contract by mutual agreement. Why would he NOT trade Kane?

Call whichever one you want the 4th line, in that era the team wasn't afraid to throw any line out on the ice. I'm sure if you look at point totals that was the 4th line though.

Honestly, this would be for everyone on a 1 or 2 year deal that is not in the long term plans of the team. So yes, I am sure that yzerman would do it if kane asked, if anything it would be a tremendous benefit for us because we would probably fetch very good compensation for him.

I just think it's hilarious that someone would think that an "insider" knows absolutely anything about what yzerman is doing/saying/thinking. Dude is a robot and doesn't tell people shit. Especially after 5 years of dealing with his press conferences.

To be fair, Kane's camp is awful leaky. How long did we talk about Kane signing with the Wings? The DBC trade was leaked as well.

Stevie is tight lipped, but there are 2 sides to any agreement. Doesn't surprise me that something like this gets leaked as soon as DBoss gets hurt. I don't expect the Wings to make the playoffs without him.

At 50% retention, pretty much every team has cap space for him so we could still see some decent bids from teams like Boston, NYR, FLA, LAK, VGK, Stars, and CO. I just looked at Cup odds, VGK, CO, and Stars are at the top.

Bitter post much?

You wanted a legitimate source. I provided one, including his bio. Is your source more experienced? Who is it or is it? You? What is your experience on the topic? Are you pals with Yzerman? HSJ follower on X?

Did I ever say it was Yzerman?

I come to the board to post a few comments and engage in somewhat intelligent banter with fans in a light hearted manner. You don't qualify but, judging from your comments, I'll wager you Monster is your beverage of choice.

I think I will respond with how you started this post:

Bitter post much?

You are going to act this upset when someone challenges you because you are trying to talk about your intimate knowledge you gleaned from a hockey insider that is routinely wrong (so maybe he just throws mud at the wall) and taking what he is saying as gospel?

Change the wording and say hey this guy seems like he knows what he is talking about, in case he's right, who/what/when/why/how are we trading kane?!?!?!?!

We all agree, that if kane wants out yzerman isn't going to just keep him. He wants players to want to play here. Zadina stopped wanting to try and play here so he got rid of him however he could. But the way you worded your first post was clearly stating it as fact and not as a rumor or speculation....of which it is. Then you doubled down on a "source" that is routinely incorrect. Then you get all pissy about someone questioning you because oooooo I Got A SouRcE sO I'm rIGht duhhhhhhhhhhh.

I'll look for some theo von video to add to this post to try and get my point across more like apparent intellectual adults do around here, such as yourself because your IQ must be astronomical. Hold tight for that. I promise, it's coming.

Edit: I would also like to add, I do not drink monster energy drink because it is the sign of the devil with its 666 symbolism and constant references to satan. So,

canucks fan here in peace, just wondering how did he played for the last three games?

I thought he's looked pretty damn good, he had no training camp and not a lot of practice time against NHL competition. It's a pretty unique injury to return from. Copp had abdominal surgery before last year and it took him a good chunk of the year to get comfortable. He should, should.. only get better. His skating has looked better than anticipated and his skill is not going anywhere. Hopefully he builds some chemistry as we are short 2 big players for a bit, think a few guys have been forcing the issue to him as he is the new toy. Rather than allowing it to just come within the game.

Congrats red wings fan, i was hoping the canucks to at least try to sign him, good for him to play for a good team.

So glad that the expectation is that he can be a deadline deal. Perfect scenario.
