A couple things to bear in mind regarding Murray. He had his done at 30yo and it took 3-4 years to claw back into a top-50 spot. And in tennis that's akin to a not quite .500 record.

Even if this is all he brings, he is severely underpaid. This is what I've been saying and you put it together better than me so thank you!Watched Lalonde's media availability, his comments about Kane's quick learning about systems etc because of his IQ stood out to me. It really struck me we haven't had a player with this level of hockey IQ since Datsyuk/Zetterberg. Going to be fun watching 4D chess on ice again. And high IQ younger players like Debrincat, Seider, and especially Raymond should only benefit from that influence. Really looking forward to this.
And Kane says he's feeling good physically as he works his way back in so that's some cause for optimism.
why sit anyone when we could just make a tradeKostin is the guy to sit.
Veleno - Larkin - Raymond
DeBrincat - Compher - Kane
Fabbri - Copp - Perron
Sprong - Ras - Fischer
(Kostin)
to be fair, if kane was working on one leg, zadina would technically be a hair bit faster.Dude, at this point he's on the roster. Might as well hope for the best.
You seem optimistic about players with no skill becoming NHLers (Zadina), yet you are pessimistic about players that actually have NHL talent (Cat & Kane). Kane has a better chance of being in the NHL next season than Zadina does, even if his leg falls off.

Kane would still be faster to get into a position to shoot thoughto be fair, if kane was working on one leg, zadina would technically be a hair bit faster.
see that's the caveat. it'll take him forever to do his "S" skating track to get to the spot on the ice (the only way a one legged player could skate...kind of like a shark moving it's tail in the water?) but he would have the his shot ready when getting there, while zadina would in fact have to do multiple long division problems once the puck is on it's way towards him before he lifts his stick in the proper position.Kan would still be faster to get into a position to shoot though
Zadina will call it a draw.Dude, at this point he's on the roster. Might as well hope for the best.

Theoretical full healthy roster very rarely happens.why sit anyone when we could just make a trade
Reimer seems like an easy choice to jettison, for a multitude of reasons, but then you look at Husso's stats and realize he's been borderline awful for a full calendar year, and, well.... this is why we have 3 goalies this late in the season.I don't think we'd have to waive Reimer, I think there would be a market for him. He's played well this year, but unfortunately for him, Lyon has been better. If we don't have room for Reimer, I'm confident we'd get a mid-round pick for him.

Then you have an even bigger problem because once he figures out the answers to his long division problems, he has to compute pie x 1 before he finds a proper spot in net to shoot at. Which is all for nothing because it'll go straight to the chest of the goalie anyways....but you never know! There could be a massive rebound!!!
Besides, sledge hockey is cool. Cooler than ball hockey for sure. Ball hockey is for sissies that are afraid to get on skates, sledge hockey players get on a skate even though they can't walk. That's balls.
I know a guy who plays ball hockey. He's Canadian, but I think his country disowned him. I presume because of the ball hockey thing. He spends a lot of time educating people on the internet, but it doesn't seem like many people appreciate it. He's told me he hits people in his ball hockey league when they deserve it. I'm guessing they don't like being educated either. I'm starting to wonder if he's a poor teacher.Exactly. Ball hockey isn't hockey because it takes the most important and unique part about hockey, ICE SKATING, and completely removes it. Sledge hockey is still hockey due to the presence of ice, again, the most important and unique part of the entire game.
If people have fun playing gym class lacrosse, whatever, have a great time and enjoy. Ice time is expensive, not always accessible, etc, etc. So if ball hockey is all ya got, sure, got for it. But it's not hockey or anything even close to it. You gotta be on ice for hockey to be hockey. Running around in gym shorts, balls bouncing around, and watching goalies do the most awkward little stutter steps trying to track the ball and have zero movement while down... yeah, that's a no from me, dawg. You're playing floor lacrosse and you can't convince me otherwise.
OK, but can he play ball hockey?Really good article in the Athletic today with the DR that performed Kane's surgery.
One major point the DR brought up is that Kane essentially skipped 2-3 arthroscopic and other maintenance-type surgeries, injections and rehab to try and manager his hip injury and went straight to this procedure. What that allowed is for the problem to be fixed almost immediately rather than try delaying tactics that allowed for even more damage to be done to the hip. "Kane really is... kind of freakish. He's just blowing it out of the water. Things that we expected to be accomplished by three months, he did in six weeks. Things we expected in four months, he did at two months. He's basically accelerated the timeline by almost half."
The article also had comments from Jovanovski (whose surgery was performed by the same DR almost exactly 10 years prior) and Ed said his hip was not the reason he retired. "I felt like with a full summer of rehabbing and working out that I probably still could have played, but I had four kids, I had a 19-year career and it was good." More than nine years later, Jovanovki's resurfaced right hip still feels great. Stronger he said, than his left - a full replacement done after his retirement.
thats what mazur/berg/etc. come in for those minimal game appearances! Just trade for lindholm and hanifin and call it a day. That'll get us to the second round at least...rioght?Theoretical full healthy roster very rarely happens.
Fabbri did miss 12 games.
Larkin did miss 2 games
Kostin did miss 4 games
Fischer did miss 1 game
That makes 19/23 missed/played games, so basicly you need one extra guy for injuries/rotation.
depends what kind of ball hockey we are talking about you wild and crazy guy.Kane will be allowed to play sledge hockey, because Bettman wants to be on the forefront of adaptive hockey to cement his legacy as NHL commissioner.

how much are you willing to give for Lindholm, assets and cap hit?thats what mazur/berg/etc. come in for those minimal game appearances! Just trade for lindholm and hanifin and call it a day. That'll get us to the second round at least...rioght?

quite a lot tbh.how much are you willing to give for Lindholm, assets and cap hit?
I think that is a lot to give for a 30 year old rental. He's gonna want 7-8M per year next off season, and I would not sign him for that. We got contracts coming up, and I have done the math on it, there isn't that much left after resigning Raymond, Seider, Veleno, Ras and maybe Kane.quite a lot tbh.
if it is just for him and not hanifin (he would be a separate deal or something) then I would be willing to give up (not that I would start with this, but this is close to my end of discussion type):
Det
Lindholm (extended)
CGY
wallinder/anton johansson (just playing off his recent success stories)
copp (if cgy is not on 10 team no trade list, they need a center back i'm sure and he would be their 2nd line C i think)
Kasper (yes, willing to go there)
Kostin/3rd (more playing time i'm sure, would probably be higher in their lineup)
1st
If he does not come extended, then I take out wallinder/anton and kasper and substitute Viro/tuomisto/doucet/berggren
Det
Lindholm (no extension and if we did well rest of season, we probably would be able to extend him later)
Cgy
Viro/tuo/doucet/berg (last ditch effort is berggren over the other 3, but not my first choice to go into negotiation with)
Copp
Kostin/3rd
1st
I just don't see any of those players making our long term plans. The 1st and 3rd would just be lindholm being our 1st rounder just not drafted. Copp is just out there, he isn't bad imo, he's just...out there. Kostin should get more playing time, he has a lot of ability that just isn't being harnessed on the 4th line. Viro/tuo/doucet are all semi higher level players that will probably be on an NHL team in time. Maybe not doucet as much, but he would be a wild card type i think?
To get hanifin, I'd probably add another 1st or 2nd, maatta, and a later round pick to start. After the zadorov trade and I get that he wanted out so the ability to get more was probably not possible, I still think we could get hanifin for far cheaper than most realize.
What don't you like about what I would trade and how would you amend it?
Makes sense, but I don't think Yzerman gives him 7 years. He didn't give it to dbc or any other FA we have gotten, don't think he would start now. I see him doing a 5 year deal around that 6-7 mark. Probably closer to 7.I think that is a lot to give for a 30 year old rental. He's gonna want 7-8M per year next off season, and I would not sign him for that. I would rather go after someone else on a shorter term.
Copp would definitely have to go, I agree there.Makes sense, but I don't think Yzerman gives him 7 years. He didn't give it to dbc or any other FA we have gotten, don't think he would start now. I see him doing a 5 year deal around that 6-7 mark. Probably closer to 7.
If it's me, I'm not signing ras at all. Veleno could be a valuable trade chip in this deal and remember, I did add Copp/kostin which is 7.7 mil free there between those two. Also, I forgot to mention adding reimer in the trade because don't they want to trade markstrom or vladar? By giving them reimer, we could give them more teams to trade with because they won't need a goalie in return.
I'll do a capfriendly armchair thing and show it would work (with realistic numbers) because I've done this like 4-5 times and the figures work and we just got the updated salary cap for next year at 87.7.
edit: I have not factored in kane though so it isn't working out, completely forgot about that but I would rather do a low cap hit with high bonus structure for him since he is at 35+ contract. Not sure how to work that in cap friendly so I kept his salary at a low number.
Again, see the other post with my edit bolded for context.Copp would definitely have to go, I agree there.
A third of the forwards are rookies, and you are so up against the cap, you can't replace anyone if injured or suspended, unless LTIR. I wouldn't do this.Again, see the other post with my edit bolded for context.
This is with signing ghost to come back at 5 mil (i like him so i'd rather keep him tbh, but if there is another defense guy that we can go get then why not? We have 5 mil to play with if that's the case)
I also see Fabbri getting massively hurt again, I hope he doesn't, I think we can all agree on that, but its just his track record unfortunately. I infused a lot of younger players to make it work and brought back sprong with a pay raise, again, you can use him and ghost as placeholders.
true, but saying it isn't possible wouldn't be completely accurate. We also wouldn't have to sign sprong or ghost and we could get cheaper players to fill that void.A third of the forwards are rookies, and you are so up against the cap, you can't replace anyone if injured or suspended, unless LTIR. I wouldn't do this.
