You guys are making some giant leaps here. Kane is guilty of bringing negative publicity on himself and the organization multiple times over the years. That's a fact. Whether he is guilty of a felony or not this time, things need to change moving forward.

100% correct. Most professional athletes doesn't get themselves into these kind of sitauations like Kane does. If you want to be an professional athlete, act like one!

Because the issue was brought up with regards to the possibility that both parties were equally intoxicated, and that in such situations, many people have a sexist bias that says that if both parties are at an equal level of intoxication, and both ostensibly consent to sex but cannot legally do so due to their intoxication, only the woman is a rape victim and only the man is a rapist. See which, the "Jake was drunk, Josie was drunk" PSA poster that made the rounds at Coastal Carolina University years ago.

This is very much a non-edge-case in the partying lifestyle that Kane is involved in.

I guess I need to clarify for you that the above is also an example of statutory rape, and that the relevance is to show that we as a society have barely progressed from sexist double standards on statutory rape by age, and therefore this shows he haven't progressed far from sexist double standards on statutory rape by intoxication.

Your post betrays a startling lack of awareness on the realities of sexual assault and male predatory behavior, as well as who ultimately bears the brunt of the potentially negative consequences from sex. This isn't so hard. Either a woman has given her consent or she hasn't. If she's intoxicated, then she hasn't.

Frankly, pursuing sex with a woman whom you know has been drinking excessively is both pathetic and creepy.

Pray tell, what is "th[is] kind of situation" that you speak of? Do you know what actually happened?

And stop kidding yourself. Many professional athletes (even the married ones) get drunk at bars and take a girl home / to a hotel. Kane is no outlier here.

Your post betrays both the exact same sexism I was referring to. "Who bears the negative consequences of sex" was EXACTLY the line given by those judges who upheld the sexist double standards in the statutory rape case of Michael M. vs. Sonoma County.

If both parties are at an equal level of intoxication, both parties ostensibly consent to sex, and both parties commit acts that would be legal among sober parties, then you cannot single out one party alone as the rapist.

Wel, you CAN, but you cannot do so without being a sexist bigot. And I don't know you from Adam or Eve, so I don't know what bigotry may really be in your heart, but you clearly look, quack and waddle like the metaphorical duck on the matter.

Slow down and think before you type. You've now transitioned to what you call legal double standards from your earlier lament regarding popular opinion.

Do you actually disagree with the notion that women bear the brunt of the consequences of sex -- unwanted pregnancies, higher risk of contracting std's, abortion, social stigmas, etc.?

What you're promoting is your own indifference to human nature, the laws of nature, and women's vulnerabilities, which belies your purported desire of equality. Cloaking your sexism behind a veil of righteous indignation fails to make your motives any less transparent.

is this the world we live in, where those who rally to equal treatment by society and under the law are the sexists, and those who advocate double standards are the true voice of reason?

Okay, trick question, that's the world YOU clearly live in.

I'm done trying to reason with a patent bigot. You can have the last word.

Describes most guys 20s haha. hawksrule's post reminds me of listening to counselors talk about drinking. "If you have more than one drink a week, you have a problem."

Leaving your bizarre non-sequitur aside, recognizing your creepiness is the first step towards rectifying your behavior. It's sad and pathetic that you spent your 20's targeting inebriated females who weren't capable of providing clear-headed consent. I hope you've grown since then.

Your outlook clearly allows no room for nuance. When you take a moment to ponder the predatory nature of men and to answer the question I posed regarding who the negative consequences of sex affect most, your provincial world view will be enlightened. Try to think critically. Mull over why exactly it's so important for you to preserve your 'right' to physical interaction with women who are not of sound mind to provide consent.

I never totally understood the "if she's intoxicated its rape" thing... What if the dude is super intoxicated too? Are men not subject to the impacts of alcohol?

If he is guilty let there be termination. He has no place in the Hawks or in the NHL if it's true.

This is the passage. Twain lambasts the mob mentality, but does not refer to it as a universal trait. But I'll leave you to your own interpretation:
I said more-or-less rather than making an absolute statement. Twain has noted several times about the mob mentality in US regarding race and other social contradictions.

We apes aren't big fans of thinking it seems. The reaction to this only demonstrates that.

My ?? referred to your diction. Parsimonious was a curious word choice.
I like to take the simplest path.

I thought you were referring to the US.
One would think that history should at least help guide present-day policy. How rape is being handled in the campuses and elsewhere really does seem very unsustainable.

Oh well, let's just continue being a bunch of aimless apes.

I guess deleting my post was necessary.. I'd like to be able to defend myself to someone pretty much calling me a sexual predator. The post of yours I was talking about was NOT what you're saying now. I didnt imply I take advantage of drunk girls. I said girls get drunk at parties sometimes. So do guys. It's quite common in life. I dont date rape girls or something...

This

Don't know why this is any different, just ask Dan Quinn, Dino Ciccarelli, Marty Broduer, Drew Doughty, Al Secord, Doug Gilmour, Darien Hatcher, my god i could list hundreds and maybe thousands of NHL players.

Or how about that girl who died from aids years ago, who were the 60 plus players who did her?

Is it considered rape if a married couple has sex while intoxicated? What are the rules for inebriated gays and lesbians?

I don't see anyone calling Kane innocent or guilty on here. The investigation is underway.

Am I some kind of crazy man to be embarrassed that my favorite player on my favorite team is being investigated for rape?

Do you honestly hold these NHL players to a high standard? if you do you have a problem.

Pro athletes are no different than anyone else, good gosh look at what President Clinton did in the oval office.

The oversimplification sort of reminds me of the Emmett Till case. There were numerous feminists branching him as some sort of inherent "predator" with technicalities that sound idiotic today.

Yeah, the mob-like drone mentality is definitely in our blood.

Personally, I expect similar witch hunts in campus and clubs worldwide. Maybe we're better off seeing these Darwinian centres disappear. Interestingly, pubs are already falling out of favour in London, etc as is alcohol consumption.

Alcohol consumption falling out of favor? Never heard that before, there's something worth worrying about.

Yeah alcohol consumption has generally been decreasing much like tobacco. However, female consumption has been rising and is sort of like the Kim Kardashian "booty" fetish ( or is it appropriation?) in the nightclubs nowadays.

Kane should be released from the contract

And if he is not guilty of this horrible thing, what then?

Guilty before proven innocent mentality needs to stop. If he is indeed guilty it will come out but until then the Blackhawks are not going to do something foolish like terminate Kane's contract.

Dude. You're fine. If we jailed people for having sex while drunk I'm pretty sure nobody would graduate college because they'd all be in prison.
