Prospect Info: K'Andre Miller (D) - Part IV

Chara? lmao.

JM Liles and KJ both had pretty successful careers. They were older when they broke into the league though so I don't think that they apply as comparisons.
Meszaros. I just remembered the name.

But fair point about the age difference. Was just going off memory and remember seeing KJ’s point totals just plunge as his career passed.

It seems as though some posters like to take easy hedges and say “might still need time in the A”, in the unlikely event it happens they can go back to said post and gloat. In reality, Miller is here to stay and the Debbie downers are forgotten.

Jesus man, I can't remember the last time you posted. Was it 10 years ago?

Yeah I don't think this kid is ever gonna go back to the A.

He honestly already looks about 1 to 2 years ahead in his development than he should be. He is positionally sound and when he isn't he is so physically gifted with the range and skating that he recovers seamlessly. His strides are effortless. For every stride he takes sometimes he makes it seem like he took 2 or 3. Meaning he barely stretches sideways and he has already covered a ton of distance. I see this in other sports in elite level athletes that make difficult movements look effortless. Just from a pure skillset alone and god given ability he is never going to be at a physical disadvantage against anyone. Throw a tiny fast guy at him and he'll keep up, throw a power forward and he will hold his own physically [and when he puts on weight omg] and throw a shifty guy and he will just poke the puck away with his enormous stick. Ok that sounded weird but you know what I mean. His hockey stick is on the long side and he uses it well. Omg ok you know what I mean.

But that is just the physical stuff. He hasn't even tried to rush or attack with purpose yet because he is following a positionally sound plan. I don't like the fact the Rangers continuously break from whatever systemic structure Quinn tries to establish but this kid has not broken from being positionally sound. I have not seen him over pinch or royally f*** up yet. As he gets more confident he will take more risks and probably get points but give up plays here and there but I have no doubt he will be an elite defender. He just oozes talent. And it seems that as stupid as I think Quinn is, he is not stupid enough to punish the kid for mistakes because he hasn't made any glaring ones yet which is dumbfounding to me. He could do it in the next game or the next but so far I salivate at the kind of player he can become just by watching him skate. His presence is noticed immediately when he is on the ice.

Again I think it's fascinating that the Rangers patience to not go out and make a crazy move for a #1 LD this offseason may be paying off so early.
Suddenly LD doesn't seem like such a terrible weakness of the team in the short term or long term...

that's putting a lot on the guy and sure he's gonna struggle sometimes (even vets go through struggles at times in the season) but if he can just keep learning and building and developing his game it feels like he's gonna be undoubtedly legit top defenseman much faster than any of us expected.

If only we did the same on the right side too

was it patience or was it the fact that we had $12 in cap space?

Hey is Traverse City happening this year? Can Miller go there before being sent to the AHL? Winning that tourney is second only to our NHL ready prospects dominating the WJC. I can’t think of anything better.

Hard to say with the whole league wide cap situation and uncertainty but they certainly could have looked into make a trade that allowed for the cap space, or not re-signed Strome, etc etc

You are the only poster who thinks this. It's going to be a surprise if Miller somehow drops out of the top four and ends up in the AHL at some point this year. In fact, it will a disappointment at this stage.
You know the lovefest will only go until he makes a rookie mistake. Then it will become a case of Quinn causing him to regress.
