A young Mcdonagh that is 6'5, more athletic and has already shown flashes of offensive touch. Insane. I am trying not to build him up too much but I honestly do not know where this ceiling goes.

Not to nitpick, I don't know about more athletic. McDonagh was one of the fastest and most powerful North-South skaters i ever saw in a Ranger uni. He was like Jack Eichel on the backend. A lot of McD's offense came directly from his elite defense like breaking a play up, intercepting a pass and turning it the other way.

Miller does seem to have more pure offensive ability and more poise with the puck on his stick.

I think everyone would be thrilled if he is close to being as impactful as prime Ryan Mcdonagh though.

Prime Mac seems to be getting a little under appreciated here as time has passed on. Him supplanting Staal as the 1LD is one of the biggest factors in turning the tide to being a contender for the Rangers during that window, imo.

It's funny you called that out because I originally wrote it, and then deleted it, but wrote it again. If anything, the pure athleticism part of it is definitely arguable. That being said, McD was extremely explosive in his hayday, and I see the same from Miller but his strides are longer and (maybe just as?)powerful. In any case, the fact that it's even a debate bodes well for K'andre for sure.

Lol it was Malkin who was on him.

He didn't have a mistake free game and his most egregious mistake is a really coachable thing (the 1st Rust breakaway, hes got to turn around and skate with Rust at that point instead of trying to break that up moving backwards) but he did so many things right in this game.

That backhanded sauce on the rush to Rooney? Who the f*** does this guy think he is? haha

Miller and Lindgren were on Crosby and Malkin very effectively last night. How many times did Malkin take on Lindgren, only to have Lindgren knock the puck away?

Man Mac had/has great IQ as well. His anticipation in the NZ is top 5 in the league. Can't tell you how many times he just pops up on screen intercepting the other teams breakout. We saw Mika do that a lot last year.

Miller looks to have a really nice ceiling. With him and Lindgren that is a very stout Left side we haven't had since Mac and Pre Concussion/2 eyed Staal. Which btw, Staal before his injuries and blocking a million shots wasn't a slouch.

This kid is gonna be really really good. The subtle little plays he makes is what sticks out to me. His first game he was a train wreck but the last few games he stood out the most to me. If this kids offensive game comes together? All star. I’m more excited about him then I am about Lafreniere.

Truth, found this goal real quick. Prime Mac in a nutshell.

The biggest thing I think is that this is suddenly making that left side of the D look a LOT better than it was before the season started. We all hoped Miller would be good but most considered him a year or so away and had questions about how that'd work out.
To have him step in like this is making the Rangers top 4 suddenly look pretty strong and still with room to grow rather than a mediocre top 4 that has its hopes resting on Fox carrying them and Trouba maybe playing better

Nothing captures prime McDonagh more than this

This doesn't even show just how much ground he had to cover before he completely snuffs this play out and sends Parise into the net. His ability to recover was insane.

I knew his 1v1 battle ability would translate to the NHL, but I really didn't think he'd be so situationally aware in the defensive zone this quickly. He's making those same types of plays like Fox did last year where he just magically gets the puck away from danger and gets it to one of our forwards like it's nothing.

Him handling Crosby behind the net was impressive.

how many times have we seen sid just toy with guys and make them look silly in that same situation? K’Andre not only stuck with him, but got took the puck away. When I saw that I was like “yup, this guy is never spending a second in the A.”

Imagine being in your 4th and 5th NHL games and completely swallowing up Sidney Crosby lmao.

It also helps that he has a 24-foot wingspan and moves like a gazelle. Crosby tried his patented cut and spin move, and K'Andre was barely fazed by it

That's funny, could've sworn that's Miller chasing down Malkin last night.

To me, it really is so much more impressive than points as a rook, at least from a developmental standpoint. I feel like the kids we've seen recently tear it up in points, but they were not gobbling up legends with ease their first five games in.

incredible kid and we are lucky to have him.

I love what I’ve seen from KAM. I’ve mentioned the J-Bo comparison many times. It’s just blatant to me at this point. My question is the following: we once had a promising youngster by the name of Del Zotto who turned heads his first few seasons here. Then his game went to hell. What happened? What is the risk of that happening to KAM? I’ve also wondered what happened to initially successful defensemen, like JM Liles, Kim Johnsson and the Slovakian fellow on the Senators (his name escapes me) in the middle of the 2000s, who go from rising stars to near obscurity.

Miller is a much better skater than MDZ. MDZ played aggressively on defense, but Miller has the size to back it up and the speed to make up for mistakes.

Chara? lmao.

JM Liles and KJ both had pretty successful careers. They were older when they broke into the league though so I don't think that they apply as comparisons.

Did you check with @Vitto79 on that one?
