Kakko shows more skill. Laf shows more intangibles.

I've got to go with Laf. I think what's between the ears is the most important attribute in hockey, for anything in life really. And he has the right mindset, the personality, confidence, swagger, attitude, etc to be a star. As much as it pains me to say this, I just don't think Kakko has that "it" factor. He has a beta personality and I'm surprised this never came up as a red flag in pre-draft interviews. Watching the behind the scenes of the 2019 draft video it's abundantly clear how awkward and uncomfortable he is compared to the other kids. He's so uncomfortable in his own skin and was nervous about getting up to be drafted, so he started being really rude to his father about it. This is a common defense mechanism of people who aren't confident.

Watch @15:18

I am from Finland, and Finnish is my mothers tongue (edit: sorry, i think it's supposed to be "mother tongue"?).
I can tell Kaapo wasn't yelling or being rude at all. He was tense and nervous, trying to figure out the upcoming procedure (shaking hands or not, before or after, etc...).
He was also speaking louder in that noisy environment.

I think Lafreniere has the higher upside (70-75 point first line forward) but that Kakko has a better chance of reaching his upside (55 point second line two way winger)

Kakko is already a very solid two-way winger at 20. He needs to trust his shot more and stop always looking to pass. He had a great shot. Shoot! His underlying offensive metrics too are like top on the team, I saw recently, and I’m not even much of an analytics guy. Laf needs the chance to shine in the top-6. Surprised it’s Laf, considering all year this board has been discouraged significantly with his production.

I honestly don't know. I feel like I've been more impressed with things Kakko has done. But I kinda wanna vote Laf because he certainly looks to be into the games mentally and at least doesn't show any signs of poor confidence so I think he'll only get bettwr. Idk how to read Kakko, hopefully he doesn't just crumble losing confidence in himself.

Was the on screen translation accurate? He came across as rude to me, although I don't speak Finnish and am basing this off his body language, tone, and this translation

Are we questioning Kakko’s head and calmness over a pre-draft video at 18? I guess the Wjc Gold medal that he scored the GWG in or the WC tournament where he scored at will and on one leg against Canada doesn’t count as far as dealing with heightened pressure lol.

I think Kakko has more skill with the puck on his stick but he isn’t using it or it’s not working. He doesn’t have the speed to get around or not get caught so he gives the pick up early. Until he either or both gets faster and harder to knock off the puck his game isn’t going to translate at this level.

Laf I feel is more a danger to score, he has a better shot, he isn’t a burner but he can keep up with the play better. He is more physical and probably a better passer.

i have to give the edge to Laf, if neither hit their draft potential he is a more useful player.

Sorry, but I had to pause after "mothers tongue"

We’ve got Jovo advanced stats for determining Kravtsov’s Jovo adjusted value. What’s the scoring system for this? Jovomental points (JMP)? Kakko is -1000 JMP. Georgiev is unrated because the system doesn’t calculate that low.
It's Jovo Adjusted Value (JaV)

Kravtsov +83.4 (this is highest in the league, McDavid is 79.8)
Shesterkin +69.6
Panarin +62.1
Fox +38.6
Zibenajad +11.9
Kreider +8.2
Strome +7.0
Chytil -5.2
Lafreniere -11.7
Kakko -12.9
Trouba -33.6
Georgiev -77.4

If these kids are as media savvy as most in their generation, and even just a hint of letting the temptation of curiosity get the better of them.

It's their faith in the fanbase on these boards that is in question. Not ours in them.

Kakko currently has the 2nd most points in his draft class. The only player giving him a run with considerably less games is Zegras. Dach is in the wheelhouse and Hughes is where he should be as the 1OA.

Lafreniere currently is 3rd in points in his draft class. Bested only by Stuztle and Raymond who are both given carte blanche on terribly untalented teams.

Step off the ledge guys.

Just because it's not all too uncommon for a guy who got drafted lower to break out, doesn't mean the guys who went 1,2,3 are generational all stars from day one every single draft.

The translation is fairly accurate, word by word, but leaves out a few keyword, and doesn't translate the content well.
It seems like part of the conversation was cut out at 15:24, possibly leaving out what Kaapo meant.
When he talked about needing more room, his dad misunderstood him and told him he will lean back, but after the cut in the video, Kaapo says that no, no, he didn't mean that, but its all good. He was probably talking about the route up to the stage when being called. With his poor English skills, he probably wasn't completely sure about the procedure, which made him stress.
