I was joking. He needs to do more to make himself noticable when he is on the ice.

He played 4 minutes and 52 seconds through the first 2 periods mostly because of all the penalties. When he was on the ice, he was fine. Not great but hardly the issue in the game.

Only scoring 1 goal in 60 minutes at home in a playoff game is just unacceptable. The top-6 needs to carry the team in games like these.

You can make a pressence in the first 4 minutes or first 11 minutes you play just as easily as in the 16th or 17th. He needs to make himself more of a pressence whenever he is on the ice.

This is such a bad take it’s insane. 4 minutes in 2 periods and we are complaining that he should have shown more. How about the fact that he controlled possession, long ozone shifts, passed to Schneider, and the puck went down the ice? Multiple times.
That is all good in a vacuum but careers of just doing that amount to very little. He has to be a threat on offense not just control the puck for a little while untill he loses it. He was the #2 pick. I'm 100% on his side but I really want to see more. Chytil and Laf have to do more as well but they were more of a threat imo in this game.

Well no shit, when they played 30% more than him.

With only 4 minutes through 2 periods is there a chance GG takes a play out of last years playoffs and scratches him in this series? Maybe Brodzinski gets a game?

I'm sorry but the minutes thing can be an excuse. Hughes can look like a threat in his first minute or last minute. You can look like a threat on almost (not every) any shift. It doesn't matter if its your 1st minute, 5th minute 10th minute or 15th minute. Goals are not only scored in guys 10th-20th minutes. Holding the puck for 5-10 seconds only helps your team so much. At some point a player has to turn in to scoring chances to be considered one of the better players. If I was Laf and KK I would be looking at Hughes and telling myself lets go out and show what we can do. Laf was skating well. It just has to translate more. I have defended their production because they are young but I really want to see them step up. Make the other team say we need to stop that line.

Laf has played like a total idiot. That attempt to spit around instead of backhanding it was such a waste of an opportunity

There’s plenty to critique in Kakko’s game, but his line mates have been utter dog shit.

I didnt hate that play, Laf didnt have anything on the backhand there. Goalie had the net covered nearside, and he had no room to go farside on the backhand.

Yeah, Laf actually had two of the best NYR scoring chances last night. I thought he and Kakko were a lot better than Fil, and the Kid line did more in the O zone than any other last night. This team shouldn't be expecting the Kids to be carrying the team. Jack Hughes is another level right now, turning out to be pretty special, (although if the NYR had buried one of those two chances while he was already heading out of his D zone we might be talking a little differently about him right now), we shouldn't need the Kids to be that. The other younger Devils including Hischier, Bratt and Mercer aren't doing that either.

I thought the Laf play was pretty cool and he had the goalie beat if he only hit the net. I thought KK played better last night. Chytil has been up and down.
The Devils to their credit are doing a good job clogging the blueline and the boards. The Rangers must adjust.

Bundle him with a veteran for a late first and late second rounder, or for a middle first rounder.
Do you believe you get something better using those picks? The odds are not great.
As disappointed as you may be, due to his draft position, a 22 year old 200 ft player with insane possession numbers and 40 points with practically no PP time should get you far more than that...

It should, but he sounds more and more like a third line scorer rather than a first line power forward or two-way forward.

I think Kakko could carve out a very Nino Niederreiter (another top five pick) type career for himself. That’s not the worst thing in the world. He is going to be a useless player who can do a couple of different roles without hurting the team. That’s not too shabby
