This. Ziba and kreider line immediately looked more impactful. Probably because they finally got a linemate that will actually work to get the puck from the opponent. He was our 2nd best player tonight
Agreed. We were never going to get Jack Hughes, but Kakko should become a fine player with a nice career. He's a disappointment but I also think he's salvageable unlike Lafreniere. If he ever figures out how to attack the middle of the ice more consistently he might be a really good player eventually.
He would, but rule of thumb: no contract, no worlds. That's the way it goes with NHL players. Not worth it taking the risk and injuring yourself and losing on a pay cheque.I assume there might be a chance Kakko joining the Finnish team in the upcoming hockey world championships. I don't know if Mikkola would be considered too, or not.
I’m not really disappointed with him I think his early development was stifled by Quinn and he has done an incredible job building strength to control the puck down low and his defensive game is very good. Obviously I’d love more points from him but he’s never really been given the opportunity to develop that aspect of his game. Not a bust, but a massive disappointment. Not sure how anyone can say anything other than that at this point.

Next season may be either show us something or cut bait for both. He's a disappointment but I also think he's salvageable unlike Lafreniere. If he ever figures out how to attack the middle of the ice more consistently he might be a really good player eventually.
Agree. I think if a coach keeps the Kreider-Mika-Kakko line together he should be able to get 60 points next year while being a possession beast. One of the few guys with a pulse the entire series. He threw more punches in front of the net in 7 games than he did his whole career before this. Something to build on. More Kreider-Mika-Kakko next year please

To me he already skates better then LAF and his puck control is better as well. He should have been on the ppI think his development is almost entirely "stifled" by his poor skating and inability to correct that. Add in the mental aspects that Quinn didn't help with and you have a very flawed player.
OK. So go see a power skating specialist.
While he leaves a lot to be desired it looked like he actually gave a shit. Let him sink or swim top line and top PP. No more yanking him around. He wants top 6 minutes let’s see if the alpha is back from his draft year.
After the first game of the season I said it looked like he would score 30 goals if he was on the 1st line all year. His play didn’t exactly warrant it but we have to lean on him for improvement. Especially with no cap room.
Laf seems like he’s content with what’s going on. I move on from him if anything.
Yes they waste so much time to not shoot. I know Fox can be a magician on the line and I hate to bring this player up because it’s years ago, but we need an aggressive guy like Tony D. Fox is too passive and slow. We need fast and decisive so Zibs tees off into a gaping net. There's absolutely no reason why they cant have 2 equal time PP units with Fox playing on both. They need to get Kakko/Laf/Chytil out there regularly next year. 1:45 of Panarin headfaking and Fox refusing to do anything but pass to Mika for a one-time needs to be over.
There was also no reason why the PP formation should have changed after making additions at the deadline. Mika never should have been moved from that spot. There's absolutely no reason why they cant have 2 equal time PP units with Fox playing on both.
