I knew 100% someone starts argument here.

Yes, in Finnish hockey fan perspective Laine has been a small disappointment. He said in interviews that he want's to be the best player in the world, and back then he looked like it would be possible. Right now, I just checked that debate about top 50 NHL players and Laine wasn't even mentioned in that conversation. That is a small disappointment. Like I said, he already has a great career but given that I remember how incredible he was in Tappara, I know he has potential for more than we have seen yet.

However, I was a bit off with my analysis of Kakko's hype. One legendary and well respected poster asked me for more details in PM, so I made a little deeper search for this. I live in Helsinki so my perception of Turku kid's hype might be little lower than it actually is. Sure, people yell me Kaapo Kakko when I walk in Helsinki wearing Rangers t-shirt, sure I hear people talking about Kakko in libraries when I try to study for an important exam. But I haven't seen 50 girls with <3 #64 (Granlund) drawings in their face like I did in 2011.

But, those girls are probably in Turku. I checked google trends and Kaapo Kakko's peak of searches in Finland is twice higher than Laine's peak, 10 times higher than Barkov's and 50 time's higher than Kotkaniemi's (so funny i must post that graph). Only Granlund beats Kakko, by a smallish margin.

Unfortunately I'm not capable of analysing Selänne or Koivu because I'm 23 years old so I didn't live at their draft time.

I started writing an article about this exact item. How Kakko stacks up against other Finnish prospects at the same stage of their careers. Spoke to some Finnish colleagues about this, and your input certainly added understand it at a deeper level. Thanks.

roster updated on rangers website (looks like everyone (signed) going to camp...it could change but Kakko is still listed as #45...Nieves still 24

Kravtsov is 74, Fox is 23, Shesterkin 31, McKegg 14, Reunanen 51, Rykov 57

I know people want that to change but everyone else's numbers look legit so how likely that kakko is the only guy not listed with the correct number

Howden changed from 48 to 21 after pre-season last year
Hayes changed from 59 to 13 after pre-season in 2014
Stepan changed from 57 to 21 after pre-season in 2010

Nothing speaks more to the incompetence of Rangers management than trading away Derek Stepan’s mom and sister

That was his GF (now wife), not his sister. How dare you infer that he married his sister....wait I'm inferring he married someone that looks like a young version of his mom o_O

Are you calling 45 a 2 while 24 an 8?

I think it's more like 25 or 6 to 4. Or he has the tools to be 46 and 2....either way his professional life will be a Noine and personal life a 2.
