This is like the Shesterkin thread you made (although presumably that wasn't plagiarized). We all know how good Kakko is.
The stuff on Shesterkin is also from other articles. What is your problem with this? Where else do you get info if not from other sources? Stop nitpicking. And before you comment on the videos, they too belong to someone else.

This is a Kakko thread, so it is quite appropriate to post on his accomplishments.

Your post serves no purpose other than to disparage. And I'm not surprised by your actions at all.

Generally when you take entire paragraphs from other articles, you cite the articles. So people know you're using the work of others, and also so they know where to go if they want to read more. Like, you saw how I linked to the article you used, right? It's easy. People make a living writing articles, you should provide attribution to them when you can. Freelance writing and editing is my side gig; I think it's kind of a big deal to credit the people who created the content you're using. It's actually in the rules here, but whatever.

But yes. I'm just here to "disparage" and "nitpick." I look forward to you posting the entirety of Brooks' next column tomorrow.

I see you are proud of yourself.

First off it was only one paragraph, not the entire article. So plagiarism is a stretch especially from someone who should know better. And secondly,.. it was only to illustrate his stats the past 13 months which is can be had throughout the web.

And thirdly, if you follow Larry Brooks, LOL! ,.... I guess I can't expect much from you.

Oh please someone save me.

Ok well,... if you feel better knocking others down to feel good about yourself, then by all means go ahead. I can't save you from making foolish remarks..

Look, man. I have no desire to knock anyone down, here. I saw a post that sounded like an article, Googled it, and found it was an introduction and body paragraph from another source. Unattributed. And like you said--it's all publicly available information, making it (to me) even more unusual that you'd give it the old Ctrl+C rather than typing something yourself. Tht type of stuff can costs people clicks, and for aspiring writers, money. My response would be the same even if you were one of my amigos on here.

I'm sorry if I came across as a bully or a jerk, as it wasn't my intention. So, again, my bad.

This is a very real issue for writers.

Also, look at it the other way ‘round: if you include the link, you provide the opportunity for everyone here who sees it to click through, thus generating more hits on the article, thus in turn doing the writer a solid. (And even if you’re only selfishly motivated, articles that make money lead to more articles being written, which leads to more awesome hockey content for you to read.)

IMHO it's a big no no copying and pasting other people's stuff without at least linking them.

Yes. Please don't do this again.

I've got a question for the lurking Finish fans! Where does Kakko rank in all-time prospect from Finland to you? Maybe exclude Selanne, compared to Laine and Co. is he the most hyped? You had high hopes he'd become the first Finnish first overall pick, right? I'd like some insight in how Finns view Kakko.

Sorry if this has been already talked about.

Good question. I remember Koivu had a lot of buzz but I was in Montreal at the time so maybe I'm disoriented. Kurri, Laine, Koivu range though I'd imagine.
I know Kurri ended up with hall of fame numbers but I'm just imagining the rookie year hype.

Media has covered Kakko a lot here but not as much as they did with Patrik Laine or Mikael Granlund (his hype was unreal, maybe because he dominated in Helsinki's team and made that air hook/wrap (?) goal in WC). After those Kakko is the most hyped 18 year old in media. Waaay above Barkov or Kotkaniemi for example.

The more hardcore hockey people you talk, the more their opinion is closer to his draft position, in which he ties the record with Barkov and Laine. I would even say that among these hardcore people Kakko is expected to be more in Barkov's level than Laine's, who has been a small disappointment despite having a great career.

Compared to some of the other years and given the situation the hype has been very low around Kakko, not the worst thing, but not a lot happening anywhere.

Laine was a slight disappointment last season and still got 30.

For his career, he is miles away from any kind of disappointment.

Laine's hype became extreme after he dragged Tappara into a Liiga title (especially with the last minute and last second goals).

Kakko is a more consistent and stable option but whenever Laine's been hot he's being doing things we've never seen before. Those moments really get people going.

Same reason Kakko got a lot of hype during the WHC when he went on a tear.

I'd say it just kept building up from December. First he scored a lot of goals at the World Juniors when Finland won gold, then he scored a lot of clutch goals in the FEL playoffs as Tappara won gold, and then he scored a lot of goals at the men's world championships and was named the tournament MVP as Finland went into the final. A season like that is bound to keep you in the headlines.

Teemu Selänne was drafted at #10 and Jari Kurri was drafted at #69 (when he was already 20 years old). The internet wasn't a thing back then. The hype for them as 18-year-olds was nothing like the hype for Kakko and Laine, but Selänne was a major celebrity in Finland when he left for Winnipeg at age 22. Barkov wasn't hyped as much as Kakko and Laine either. He probably would have gotten a lot more attention prior to his draft had he not been injured in the 2013 FEL playoffs. Otherwise he would have been at the 2013 world championships as a 17-year-old, which would have made him more of a household name in Finland.

I knew 100% someone starts argument here.

Yes, in Finnish hockey fan perspective Laine has been a small disappointment. He said in interviews that he want's to be the best player in the world, and back then he looked like it would be possible. Right now, I just checked that debate about top 50 NHL players and Laine wasn't even mentioned in that conversation. That is a small disappointment. Like I said, he already has a great career but given that I remember how incredible he was in Tappara, I know he has potential for more than we have seen yet.

However, I was a bit off with my analysis of Kakko's hype. One legendary and well respected poster asked me for more details in PM, so I made a little deeper search for this. I live in Helsinki so my perception of Turku kid's hype might be little lower than it actually is. Sure, people yell me Kaapo Kakko when I walk in Helsinki wearing Rangers t-shirt, sure I hear people talking about Kakko in libraries when I try to study for an important exam. But I haven't seen 50 girls with <3 #64 (Granlund) drawings in their face like I did in 2011.

But, those girls are probably in Turku. I checked google trends and Kaapo Kakko's peak of searches in Finland is twice higher than Laine's peak, 10 times higher than Barkov's and 50 time's higher than Kotkaniemi's (so funny i must post that graph). Only Granlund beats Kakko, by a smallish margin.

Unfortunately I'm not capable of analysing Selänne or Koivu because I'm 23 years old so I didn't live at their draft time.

Thanks for posting.

It's hard to compare past social media/internet hits to current as the social media hype machine evolves every year but interesting none the less, thanks for sharing.

Saku Koivu got some national attention when he made the 1993 world championship team and looked pretty good as an 18-year-old after only scoring 10 points in 46 games for TPS during the 1992-93 season. I guess the national team coaches saw the talent even though he couldn't get much ice-time on a stacked TPS team with centers like Esa Keskinen and German Titov.

The real hype for Koivu began eight months after his draft, when the legendary Peltonen-Koivu-Lehtinen line dominated in the 1994 Olympics in Lillehammer. Finland's first ever gold medal at the 1995 Worlds made Koivu a national hero.

This is a discussion forum in the Internet. Arguments is what we do. Having a debate is normal, almost natural to human beings. How else are we going to figure out who's thinking what and what to say to them in return and whatnot. That being so, and that said, I don't really want to argue because I mostly agree with your post. Why do we always have to argue?
