The other day when they played Carolina during the pregame they talked about Kakko in context to Svchenikov. Both 2nd overall picks, both likely finish with the same rookie year production, both at 3rd line minutes. This season he's a PPG player at the moment, I do anticipate Kakko filling a top 6 role next season.

Svechnikov averages 1.5 hits per game Kakko averages 0.3 hits per game. He might be allergic to hitting as well as gluten.

Its not about making hits, more important is to use your body. For example Rantanen is big and strong, but rarely makes big hits. And still usually comes out from the corner with the puck. Winning the puck is the most important thing, hitting is only one way to do it.

Another soft Euro and from the same country as Kakko. I heard they hug trees down there and have men working in daycare. Not how the Bible intended it to be.

Those boys are not used to stroll down the highway, ramblin’ from town to town.

I would rather see his great board work come back rather than hitting. Usually, when a team leads in hits it means they never have the puck. If you are controlling play, you aren't hitting. I am more concerned with board play and winning battles than counting hits. I remember when everyone thought the physical Flyers were going to run over the Red Wings in 97. The Red Wings had physicality in the right places. They had a good mix. Nobody was looking for Yzerman, Lidstrom and Larionov to hit. Other guys did that. Winning battles and possession are ultimately more important.

Good point. I do think a little chip on the shoulder is important for playing in the NHL. But your KK prescription makes sense.

If he gets a chip then all the better. I hope he does. For him, at this point, getting his board game back is important because that is a big part of his game. Two years from now, when he has grown into his frame, we will be celebrating moments when he bulls out of the corner to score goals.

Ya i'm sure that one hit he throws a game really changes the momentum in his team's favor . Hopefully Kakko develops into a 1 hit a game player too.

Hits are the new plus-minus. I don't really care for it as a stat in a vacuum. I would like to see a stat showing how many hits actually change possession.

HP+: hits resulting in possession
HP-: hits that don't result in possession
HP% to see which players actually impact the game in a positive way with their hits, instead of just looking at hits and thinking it's a good thing

And not to mention what classifies as a "hit" varies greatly between rink to rink and person to person making the decision. A small hit may count as a hit in Carolina, but that same hit wouldn't be counted in MSG.
