Doesn’t basically everyone recommend hockey players eat lots of carbs & isn’t the traditional hockey diet lots of pasta lol

Yeah I mean in general pro athletes need to eat a lot, carbs included. Carbs are generally more important for aerobic stamina sports though, like swimming and running. Hockey is more of a mix of aerobic and anaerobic. Should have both protein and carbs.

Frankly, I'm glad Kakko is getting those carbs from something other than beer.

Yikes, sounds like he's going overboard with the carbs there. At least it's gluten free. I wonder what kind of supplements he's taking as well.

You do understand these folk here (hockey players) burn 4000 calories a day, yes? I mean at least! Idk their exact numbers, but it should easily be twice the daily average of average Joe's.

You'd kill yourself/eat yourself to death trying to compensate that with meat, fats and veg only. Look at Phelps diet for example or Matt Stonie eating the Phelps diet.

Keep going back to the Hossa comparison. If he chooses to work on skating and passing instead of defensive play and strength, though, perhaps he could be a Naslund type.

Yea even myself who plays in 2 ice hockey leagues & 2 ball hockey leagues and sometimes play 3 games in 1 day, eat large pizzas in one sitting and upwards of 3500 per day and I’m still very skinny

Phelps isn't diabetic and doesn't have Celiac. I'm not saying he needs to avoid carbs, but just gathering from what he said in the interview he's eating a diet that is predominantly carbs. And again just looking at the interview it doesn't seem like he's pounding down calories, he's eating two meals and a piece of bread before the game. No wonder he gasses out quickly he's not eating enough calories or protein. The crazy part is how much his game can improve if he starts nailing nutrition.

You guys don't think that he has access to the best nutritionists and dietitians that money can buy? I doubt he just sits at home and eats whatever he feels like. I'd be VERY surprised if the Rangers haven't got a massive say in this aspect of his life, especially so given his extraordinary dietary requirements.
I'm sure they put him on acne meds. He has no acne anymore.

I wonder how the whole dietitian thing works out with these kind of cases. I picture a guy who shadows him all day every day and gives him an *ahem* and a disapproving head shake if he picks up a brownie.

Not all nutritionists/dieticians are created equally. He is probably recommended things but in season I doubt he's meeting with them. He has a family cooking for him and I believe the Rangers have a chef which is great for him. I'm just going off of the article. He said one gameday he's eating pasta with bolognase, sleeping all day, piece of bread before the game, another meal usually pasta after the game. NOT GOOD! No wonder he's benched in the 3rd lol he's going off of a piece of bread! Needs a nice steak pregame.

Carbs are fine but pasta's not fine. Many hockey players have garbage diets, doesn't mean they wouldn't perform better with better dieting.

Personally, I feel the best if I eat mostly fats and relatively few carbs, just fruits, vegetables and oats. Nuts are great, love pistachios especially. Personally I don't understand how people can wolf down pastries and such, there's so much processed wheat I start feeling ill, same with pasta or pizza.
