The people complaining about him are almost certainly going to turn around and scream about Dubas getting rid of our only big defenseman the second he's gone. 2 mil for a guy who won't hurt you playing shutdown minutes is a steal, if he could carry the pairing without Muzzin it would be one of the best contracts in the league.

His hair is awesome. His d partner is pretty good. Keeps it simple. Does nothing special. Stays off the radar. So he’s doing his job. My one issue is For a guy his size he’s way to soft. He could easily have a few hits a game just to keep the other team honest.

He's got to be either bottom pair or off the team He's not a legitimate top 4 D.

I'm keeping an eye on Columbus because David Savard would be a perfect fit.

If the Jackets fall out he'd be a target.

Josh Manson and Conor Murphy would also fit.

He's pretty bad.

Another one that showed his true colors but not before Dubas handed him a fat multi-year contract.
2m yup not only fat but morbidly obese. Boy we're really gonna be handcuffed by that one.

Quit projecting what you see in the mirror in judging perfectly fine contracts.

I haven’t had too much issue with Holl through three games so far. His puck decision skills in the offensive zone could be better but otherwise I’ve got nothing to complain about, which is what I want from a shutdown defenseman.

I didn't catch the game tonight. Did Holl play bad? I just seen in another post that his advanced stats were great on the night, maybe you saw it differently ?

He's was solid but that's because Muzzin carries him that was proven the SECOND Muzzin got hurt in the play in

I actually thought Holl was one of our best defencemen tonight. I know your post is more in general, but I was impressed.

5v5, he and Muzzin played quite well. I don’t see them as the problem right now.

Brodie and Rielly are not playing cerebral defence and haven’t been able to break out like I expected they would. I am not sold on this paring (yet).

I have a larger problem with our forwards not breaking hard on the back check. If Holl goes deep, someone needs to cover the right side and the middle.
Wondering if Reilly may be the issue in finding a good partner. No one seems to work, outside of Hainsey, and he just took a knee whenever Mo went up ice. Not doubting Reilly's skill but am questioning his IQ. If he needs a stay at home, maybe Bogo might be a better partner. Just a thought

What a bizarre thread. This isn't table hockey, if the opportunity presents itself, take it.

I'd like to see him bumped go the third pair with Dermott while we audition someone else in the top 4, but playing Bogo puts some limitations on it.
What about trying Muzzin and Brodie as your first pair, the Mo and Bogo, and have Holl partnered with Dermott or Lehtonnen

I remember Matthews getting hit from behind into the boards with Justin Holl seeing it and not even so much as looking in the Sens player's direction afterwards. It's moments like those you really wonder about this team.

Bogosian can't keep up with those top minutes but I agree with the rest. At some point it can't just be everyone else, Rielly needs a very specific partner and I think Chris Tanev would've fit like a glove. At the same time it shouldn't take management this long to find that D partner. Jury is out on Brodie, I believe he's a better fit with Muzzin.

If you want to blame a team for drafting/signing a player that does not drop the gloves or plays a physical game fine. It can never be the players fault. They knew what they were getting. Justin is an excellent skater. Add some confidence to his approach, we will see his name on the score sheet more often. He is better than the guy we traded Kadri for.

If we're going to be talking about defensemen that haven't started the season off great, there's 2 that really stand out, Rielly and Muzzin. I'm not sure why everyone keeps raving about Rielly, he has the tools but not the iq, he's constantly getting beat on the defensive side of the game as well. It's one thing to look like a fool against McDavid but when Connor Brown is beating you on the outside, it's an issue. Offensively, he just doesn't know what to do, he has the speed, can't really decide when to pass and on the powerplay he's absolutely useless.

As for Muzzin, he looks slow and sloppy this year. I'm not sure if it's the weight he put on but he seems to be a step behind everyone. While Bogosian isn't the quickest, he atleast realizes that and doesn't put himself into position to get caught where as Muzzin has been and isn't quick enough to recover

it really just makes no sense how unappreciated Holl is. It made no sense when he was a legit #4 defenseman last year, and it makes even less sense now that he's been their best defenseman through 3 games and for some reason has a thread to bash him

And at a steal of a contract if he continues his play.

He and Brodie have been by far the best dmen so far.

Have to remember that Holl's second-longest stretch last year under Keefe was when all the injuries hit and he played a very effective top pair with Dermott so it's not just a purely Muzzin phenomenon.
