Holl has been excellent so far and easily, easily our best dman.

This board is so weird.
same culprits every time. Holl was outperforming his contract when he signed it, regressed a little as the season went on, and has now started the season at maybe a higher level than when he signed his contract. He and muzzin are as good a pair as you can ask for in this league.

He didn’t even regress. He was carrying the D when Rielly and Muzzin were injured.

it really just makes no sense how unappreciated Holl is. It made no sense when he was a legit #4 defenseman last year, and it makes even less sense now that he's been their best defenseman through 3 games and for some reason has a thread to bash him
This whole thread has me confused .. some people are saying that he's been our best dman, while others want his head ... I don't get it.

So far Bogosian has been our biggest issue on defence. Lehtonen badly needs to get in.

Rielly and Brodie looked better last game, and Brodie was very good on the PK.

Rielly isn’t impacting the game like he used to. We will need some patience with that pairing, if they can find consistency it will be a game changer.

Muzzin - Holl works, I have no complaints in the 3rd game. The Rielly - Brodie pair seems to be coming into his own and so has Dermott. Bogosian should sit as soon as Lehtonen is ready.

He was horrid in the playoffs and I wanted him gone. But he’s looked solid so far, he’s looked better than Muzz so far imo.

Super solid 2nd pairing

It’s an easy excuse that hockey is played in a free flowing way but the reality is it everybody has free reign to do whatever improvisational plays they want it’s going to be the tire fire we are accustomed to liking at. I look at a guy like Morgan Rielly and he shouldn’t even be doing some of the things he does but let alone Justin Holl.
so you're saying we need more of these guys?????

Holl may be the new Hyman. A player who many believe is being played above his station yet inevitably stays glued in the top 6/top 4. It took a good playoffs for Hyman to start gaining some respect, perhaps the same will be true for Holl.
Holl plays like a cyborg. He is as fast as the 6 million dollar man.

That's a great way of looking at it. Two guys that have really grown into their responsibilities.

Who would have thought way back when he and Dermott were rookies that we would be talking about how comfortable we are with him on the 2nd pairing, while Dermott hasn't been able to settle into a bigger role.

Side note- what a f***ing pass by Matthews lol so nonchalant, whips around a wires the puck across the ice.

I'm going to give them a few games before I feel confident enough to single out the few who are good enough to get more minutes.

Haven't been impressed with any of them.

If I had to pick one I'd go with Muzzin, looks like he is playing with confidence.

Another STUD game from Justin Holl, who's been our best dman every game so far.

Mentioned this in the gdt, but I can't be the only one that's noticed that Holl's mobility, offensive instincts and first pass has all made big improvements in the past couple seasons?

I thought Holl was really solid again tonight. Assist on the GWG, some big shot blocks and always active with his stick in the defensive zone. 3 points in 4 games this year, and somehow has 75.3 xGF%. I'm really loving him as our #4 and hope he keeps this up. Strong defending, occasional point producing, and signed for three years at $2m. You just love to see it.

He played really well today. Wasn't noticeable in a good way and broke up a lot of plays!

Keep it up Holl!

Well we never saw him before the last couple of seasons thanks to Babcock.

But yes he's got a great package of size, skating, and puck handling.

If Holl doesn't have our top xGF%, I would be shocked. He's been at the top in every game I've checked despite some tough defensive usage.
