Justin Holl reminds me a lot of Jake Gardiner while Lybushkin reminds me a bit of a Roman Polak.

In the aggregate, they are serviceable to good defencemen but they make very clear and egregious errors times. Gardiner was always good for an occasional pizza up the ice every now and then, Holl frequently shows a lack of urgency when he has the puck in the defensive zone and has to clear it - as it was made very clear on the first goal.

Roman Polak types never made any mistakes that were egregious to the casual fan but their problem was that they almost always chose to clear the puck off the glass. The result isn't a goal but a if that is always your first instinct when you get the puck in the defensive zone basically what your doing is giving the other team the puck and letting them reset. They aren't in dangerous positions when they get the puck back necessarily but it adds up over the course of the game via defensive zone time and icings and those can lead to goals/penalties.

I actually think we should consider sitting Lybushkin, having Holl play along side Giordano and Liljegren with Muzzin and reuniting the Brodie-Rielly pair.

I think Gardiner was miles above Holl. Sure he had the occasional gaffe, but he drove the offence and play the way Holl can only dream of. And god, he didn’t make the bonehead pinches Holl does.
Gardiner had redeeming qualities for his gaffes. I don’t see any in Holl. He is a spectator or gaffe machine.

I hope Holl was in the lineup in TB because Keefe wanted the vet in for the rook on the road.

Yeah that's so offside. It's the truth but it's so grimy and classless.
It's nothing, this team gets treated with kid gloves non stop no matter how ridiculous the the chokes get. Imagine the shit that would get asked if the NBA media was covering them.

Bruh what? This is the most scrutinized hockey team in the league by a wide margin.

Gardiner was basically the opposite kind of player to Holl. maybe you're thinking of someone else.

Ae you aware of the media for other sports do. And no, while it may be the most popular it's definitely not the most criticized. Listen to an Oilers post game scum sometime.

Oilers media is a joke and is limited to Edmonton.

Leafs media and hockey media have pretty heavy crossovers. It's like how the Lakers dominate the NBA media landscape.

I know our media can be tough but it’s nothing like you said compared to the NBA media. Philadelphia Eagles media and fans are tough! Don’t forget Yankees and Red Sox. Manchester United fans make us seem like children. There are teams way worse out there. The difference is I don’t here other people complaining about that. The players embrace it becuase it’s a passionate fan base. Here we use them as an excuse when things don’t go well.

I’ve said it a few times, Justin Holl is Jake Gardiner without the offense.

With respect Gards could fly when he was not hurt his his back .. and his hockey brain was far worse then Holl .. and his hands were pretty good too .. and he was scared to get hit on pucks in his own end ..

Holl has AHL speed and his mistakes are largely because his brain trying to do too much offensively but no feet/speed to take him where he wants/needs to go .. he also is not finely schooled in D defensive positioning or puck movements .. but he is completely OK with taking a big hit and he is not scared of it

The Holl hate is a little overboard. He played one good game this weekend, and one bad game. The fact that his name is in the spotlight and not Matthews or Marner means people are investing too much in the importance of depth contributions.

I like Lilly more. I'd like to see Muzz out for Sandin as well. However, it won't matter if our top line isn't producing like a top line needs to.

Skating was a difference, but that lead to offense.

I was commenting more on their overall play. They both make huge defensive gaffs that cost the team, but the graphs say they’re elite defensively. Gardiner scored 50 points to mitigate that.

Keefe got sucked in to playing their game. 4th line was running around and getting in Campbells face. so he countered by putting more size in on D. Was a mistake . Starting him first shift was double downing on his own mistake and it cost them. I guess we should be lucky it was games 3 and 4 and not 6 and 7....hopefully

I didnt follow the expansion draft as much.

Was justin Holl the player Keefe wanted to protect the most, or was it kerfoot?
Kerfoot was exposed, Holl protected both by Dubas.
