Took the hit to make the play.

Meanwhile instead of getting the puck or a turnover Hathaway got a useless hit.

You must only watch Leafs games if you think good defencemen take hits like this. He sees Hathaway coming well before he even gets the puck. He took a look.

I mean "like this" literally. He didn't even absorb it on his shoulder or something. Zero adjustments. Just says screw it, RIP me.

You must not watch many games if you think that hurt Holl at all.

I know the tire pumping for not sucking during a short spell is a bit much. Let’s see him keep it up, then he deserves kudos. It’s not like people turned on him for a couple games, he’s been dreadful for long stretches this year, and he wasn’t in the press box because of his advanced stat prowess, he stunk that’s why.

Why does everyone keep talking about advanced stats?

Holl leads the defense in good old fashioned plus minus, blocks per game, and 2nd in points per game and hits per game.

Did you stop watching?

Holl misses both Leafs and gives up possession lol. Then Leafs also end up taking a penalty. Very embarrassing clip for Holl.

It doesn't matter apparently. As long as he made some kind of play, even if it's a wild pass missing everyone in the neutral zone, he's a hero for taking a useless sacrifice even our Marlies defencemen can avoid.

I assume by sacrifice you mean the extent of the hit? It's true he didn't need himself to get totally wrecked  But taking the hit itself would have been fine if he had a better plan, in contrast to panic chucking the puck into the neutral zone then getting smashed.

Puck out of the zone safely, split two Leafs in the neutral zone, penalty taken by Bunting nothing to do with anything.

With the two man pressure there a proper forecheck could have caused the dangerous turnover. Thankfully he went for the useless and harmless hit instead.

Can't blame Holl there. That's just a clean win for Hathaway and why we need a guy like that.

Holl has 3 guys open and Hathaway gets his team possession back with one hit.

Holl had a good game. Give Hathaway credit where it's due.

Covered this in point 2. I just wrote it weird. Leafs are softest playoff team that doesn't get to benefit from plays like this. Over a 7 game series it adds up.

I didnt say Holl had a bad game either. It was a Play analysis not a game analysis. He folds under pressure all the time so I'm thinking about the playoffs not this game.

"Gets his team possession back" behind their own goalline under forechecking pressure, you mean.

Holl has flaws no doubt, slow/incorrect decision making being the biggest.

There's nothing to debate on that play so I don't know why you're pushing it. Just watch it over until it clicks.

You predicted this was a bubble team.
Yes I did .. Isles and Flyers really crapped da bed this year so no challenge from Metro for wildcard spots like I thought .. I had Tampa and Florida fighting it out for 1st and then Bruins to edge Leafs for 3rd spot .. then I thought Leafs would be in a fight for for one of wildcards right to end of season .. clearly Metro dropped off in depth more than I thought .. and Bruins are a little weaker than I thought so Leafs will get a spot .. it could still be a wildcard spot though as I did also say Leafs would have an amazing start to season and drop off as games got tougher down stretch and time and space on puck gets eliminated .. although I have to admit that I did not think da game against Wild was possible .. I did not think we could grind a good team down for 3 periods straight like that .. that is playoff hockey .. it was for me BY FAR most impressive game of season

Agreed. A good forechecking turnover opportunity wasted by going for a useless hit.

This guy continues to give away the puck with horrific turnovers. I am of the opinion that he had a great season last year which gave the illusion that he’s a good hockey player, but he’s looking very below average most of this season. He’s a #7 at best

Not sure if other teams are keying on this, but I notice teams are attacking Holl's position on the point very aggressively with speed. Because the Leafs love to pinch and Holl's always trying to seal the wall from a standstill, players are really attacking his position and sort of forcing him to back pedal from a dead stop or make him pivot sluggishly to pursuit mode.

I remember that game where he just stood there like a pylon while the puck slid up to him and bounced off his foot. He continued to stand there and watch it slide right to an opposing player who immediately scored.

I may be no NHL'er, but when I played hockey D I sure as hell made sure I always knew where the puck was.

Brodie-Holl is absolutely crushing together against the tough matchups. Better than even Muzz-Holl did when they were playing well.

Really interested to see what Keefe does when Muzzin comes back because I don't know if he'll want to split Brodie-Holl up.

I'd be disappointed to not see a return of the Rielly-Brodie pairing. Everything seems to fall into place that much better with a top pairing to rely on.

All depends on what you mean by top pairing - in terms of matchups it's always been the Muzz-Holl (and now brodie-Holl) that gets the top line matchups and the heavy dzone starts.
