I had thought more in lines of us overtaking CBJ and MTL.

Unless I'm mis-understanding what you're saying, I don't think it would be possible for the Leafs and Canes to meet in the first round unless the Leafs finished 1st and the Canes got the 2nd wild card spot.

Don't you mean what Carolina would need to add? Gardiner > Faulk

However this trade does not work. Next season the Leafs need to about 3-4 million, so picking up another 4 million does not work. Zaitsev-Faulk works better for the Leafs with prospects thrown in, but that makes NO sense for Carolina.

I don't see how a Faulk deal works with Toronto.

Par for the course in any trade thread involving Carolina. All our players suck and could not possibly be good, yet view our repeated trade proposals for them anyway.

I would very much enjoy never seeing a Carolina related trade thread on this board ever again.

The only area of concern in Faulk’s game this year is PP production. Unless I’m mistaken, he wouldn’t even be needed on the Leaf’s PP. He’s playing great defense now that he’s no longer paired with a liability. He would definitely upgrade your right side.

Faulk this year is much different styllistically than he has been the last few years. He's defense-first now, which is more or less what he was when he first broke into the league. He's gotten back to basics.

Scoring forward and/or futures to acquire said scoring forwards are what’s needed. Mcbackup and Mrazek have been surprisingly good since they sent Darling down for good.

He is a UFA after 2019-2020 season, Modified NTC, and is on pace for 30 points.

I’d say so. Mrazek probably for sure, and if Mcbackup wants the job, I’m sure it’s his. Need-a-spellcheck is also probably ready for backup duty in the NHL.

I never saw him as defensively weak. Not even when he had a career high in points.

He was really good.
He got hurt.
He got paired with raw players and AHL talent.
He got healthy.
He got paired with NHL talent.
He is having a great season.

He is young (26). Liked and respected in the room. Better defensively than given credit for. Great passer. Hard shot but he’s lost ALL of his accuracy. He’s snake bitten. If he can get that part of his game back he’s going to get paid when he hits UFA (in 2020).
