I’d be curious, if the Leafs sent Gardiner back over to Carolina for Faulk, what else would the Leafs need to add?
Don't you mean what Carolina would need to add? Gardiner > Faulk

However this trade does not work. Next season the Leafs need to about 3-4 million, so picking up another 4 million does not work. Zaitsev-Faulk works better for the Leafs with prospects thrown in, but that makes NO sense for Carolina.

I don't see how a Faulk deal works with Toronto.

Gardiner is not better than Faulk.

Faulk is not bad at all defensively and is actually physical.

Guess he's playing more than Hamilton because he is worst. In all situations. ES, PP & PK.

The offers herein are straight up trash and takes like "he sucks offensively and defensively" are really something.

Par for the course in any trade thread involving Carolina. All our players suck and could not possibly be good, yet view our repeated trade proposals for them anyway.

I would very much enjoy never seeing a Carolina related trade thread on this board ever again.

The only area of concern in Faulk’s game this year is PP production. Unless I’m mistaken, he wouldn’t even be needed on the Leaf’s PP. He’s playing great defense now that he’s no longer paired with a liability. He would definitely upgrade your right side.

Would be a great add, but we don't have a 1st, and Zaitsev would have to go back in the deal, so there really isn't a deal to be made.

Scoring forward and/or futures to acquire said scoring forwards are what’s needed. Mcbackup and Mrazek have been surprisingly good since they sent Darling down for good.

They are both UFAs next season. Are you certain they are back next season?

Could this happen more than some of the other proposals (Pesce and Hamilton)

He is a UFA after 2019-2020 season, Modified NTC, and is on pace for 30 points.

Could this be done?

He is not what we need, if it’s a sever underpayment sure but spending assets on hot garbage is not worth it IMO. We need somebody who is RH and defensively responsible, Faulk is not the later.

I never saw him as defensively weak. Not even when he had a career high in points.

Methinks you haven’t seen Faulk play at all this season.

Every Canes fan was pilling on this guy for years and now all of a sudden he is the Messiah? Sorry but if that if the case I have Zaitsev for you, he plays 20+ mins a night and is one of the anchors of our PK.......

He was really good.
He got hurt.
He got paired with raw players and AHL talent.
He got healthy.
He got paired with NHL talent.
He is having a great season.

He is young (26). Liked and respected in the room. Better defensively than given credit for. Great passer. Hard shot but he’s lost ALL of his accuracy. He’s snake bitten. If he can get that part of his game back he’s going to get paid when he hits UFA (in 2020).

Gardiner, a 50 point defenceman who has an amazing transition game is worse than Faulk? Faulk is good, but come on.

Contracts.

Likelihood to resign (and likelihood to resign to a fair contract).

Also Gardiner has one 50 points season. Faulk scored 49 one year.

Over their careers Faulk is 0.46 PPG. Gardiner is 0.45 PPG.

Contracts make it more unrealistic, because there is no way Leafs could afford Faulk next season.
