We wouldn't need a first. Why would Zaitzev have to go back?

We would need to send Zaitsev for cap reason because we can't add another ~4M for next season, and I assume Carolina would prefer a 1st over whatever else B prospects and 2nds we have.

I would be happy to send Zaitsev, but the Leafs will have the summer to assess their cap situation. I am sure Carolina would prefer a first, but let some else pay it if there is a bidding war.

I always enjoy the "Faulk sucks at D" crowd coming out in full force, when most probably haven't watched 15 minutes of him the last couple seasons, let alone this year.
Same thing could be said about Reilly. If people watched him periodically, they could easily come to the conclusion that he is bad in his own end. He isn't what I would call shut down, but for a guy with his offensive talent, he is okay.

I'd be interested in Faulk on the Leafs, reasonable contract as well.

TOR offers: Bracco, Brown, Rasanen, 2020 2nd

Carolina fans accept?

Canes want a 1-for-1 hockey deal for their extra RHD. A swap similar to Rask for Nino, only with a team that needs a RHD rather than a center. A proven top-6 scorer like Nino should come back.

None of Bracco, Brown, or 2nd round picks are of interest.

I'd be surprised if Faulk gets moved this TDL. Not saying it won't happen, but I just don't think the return will be there. I expect him to be moved at the draft when futures MIGHT come into play.

Meh, I don’t mind taking futures for Faulk. He only has 1 year left on his deal so I don’t think we get a real impact player for him. I’d take that package based on value. Would free up even more cap space to re-sign Ferland or another UFA in the off-season

Agree, Faulk is the one RD out the big 3 (Faulk/Hamilton/Pesce) for which I’d think futures would be acceptable. I think, however, they’d be looking for a 1st or equivalent level prospect + more as a return. I don’t think Bracco or any other fwd prospects on the Marlies get it done and CAR has no need of a Liljegren type D prospect either.

Yeah I’d prefer a 1st or higher prospect but as far as quality for quantity offers go that’s not bad

The hypothetical is that the Canes lose piles of games between now and then and aren't trying for playoffs anymore. In that case, it's a bit of a stretch of a hypothetical. This was more interesting when the Canes were a bad team. Even if they come out ahead in a trade, if a bunch of losses follow the trade everyone will blame the GM whether it is fair or not to do so.

Or how about a swap like Pu for Skinner, lol? EVERYONE wants a swap similar to Rask for Nino. Heck, right now I bet even Minnesota would like to swap Rask for Nino. :D

Although I kid you about your example, I do agree with the point you're trying to make. Canes are looking for a legit top 6 forward; we really have no use for bottom 6 forwards or futures right at the moment. We want a return that helps solidify a playoff spot right now.

I'm just repeating what Waddell has said. If the Canes are willing to keep Ferland as an own-rental then I doubt they consider subtracting a piece from their current top-4 in a quantity deal for 4 futures assets they have plenty of. Maybe the Canes would consider that after the season is over.

Yeah that makes sense. I’m sure the Canes would trade Faulk for something that serves their needs better but I just meant from a value perspective what was offered wasn’t bad.
