Re: the news that the Canes made “significant” offer to Faulk, I’d take that with a grain of salt. This management’s view of “significant” and ours could be 2 different things. They have a history of offering (successfully at times) lower amounts than we’d expect. If they were offering Aho $7.5M, I’d expect their offer to Faulk wasn’t anywhere near that.

Also, they seem to leak information in a strategic manner and Faulks offer was before Free Agency so the landscape could have been different.

  1. sufficiently great or important to be worthy of attention; noteworthy.
    "a significant increase in sales"
    synonymes:notable, noteworthy, worthy of attention, remarkable, outstanding, important, of importance, of consequence, consequential;
    [TBODY] [/TBODY]

  2. having a particular meaning; indicative of something.
"in times of stress her dreams seemed to her especially significant"

League minimum + a sack on unbranded pucks would be pretty significant offer.

If (and it's still a big if) Kase is involved, I could see something like:

Faulk, Wallmark/McGinn and/or pick/prospect for Kase+conditional picks. If Kase is added to the team, I can't see Roddy sitting McGinn, Martinook or Foegele. Sending Necas down to the AHL probably isn't the best thing for him either.

Without question, this has been the most entertaining off-season we've had, maybe in forever. On top of that, we had the 2nd best argument on these boards since the "meet me behind Bojangles" argument. Pure entertainment.

I think that their plan is to have a rotating 4th line instead of sitting a guy long-term to keep the bodies fresh. It's a luxury that I think that they can pull off.

I'll never say never, but they just signed Martinook and McGinn to $2M contracts and Roddy loves those guys, along with Foegele. All 3 of those guys could make a legit argument for being a 3rd liner and so I have a hard time seeing a plan of rotating them working.

At those contracts, those guys days are numbered. As much as Roddy and the rest of us like those guys, you know the analytics and budget people in the management are whispering to Don and dunDon that we have a ton of cheap guys in Charlotte that can do the job effectively.

My guess is that they're trade bait next off-season. It's good to have solid, reliable depth like them for a Cup push, so I'm sure that they'll hold them this year. The second year on McGinn and Martinook's deals make them easily flippable for picks when the time and offer is right. There are many, many teams out there who can't draft or develop depth to save their life (cough Edmonton)

What has been interesting to me is there seems to be just as much speculation/rumors coming from Anaheim as there is Raleigh even if the sources may not be the most credible. The fact that they are all in agreement and Friedman stating it's possible is making me feel like where there is this much smoke...

Either way we will know shortly.

Yeah I'm at the point where I'm just trying to stay cautiously optimistic about this going through. Much like with Ray Whitney years back Justin has to want to do this. Hopefully he'll agree if he gets a long term extension.

That's the sticking point IMO. I was dead wrong about Skinner so I won't try to predict one way or another, but none of us have any clue as to if Faulk (a) wants to play in Anaheim or (b) wants to sign long there there. I'll just say I'm skeptical, but that's just pure speculation. I won't blame him if he refuses to waive or refuses to sign a long term deal there.

I've been trying to stay cautiously optimistic but I'm slipping towards the feeling of inevitable disappointment. This info was leaked similar to the "Kessel to Minnesota" leaks where it was clear Kessel had already said "No" and the team was just trying to publicly pressure him into waiving. *If* the Canes actually worked out a deal for a player they highly covet then they would have even more incentive to pile on media pressure.

I just want to see the Canes PP run for a season without Justin Faulk playing 200-250 minutes (as he has the past 5 seasons). Either with a real shooter (Hamilton) or a real QB (Gardiner) at the point. The return is icing on the cake for me.

I've been thinking of Nic Wallin and San Jose, but similar idea of cautious optimism.

I think BBA is right on in that between forward roster crunch and cap, there is almost certainly an NHL forward going back as part of this. Kase is a logical target in that a RHS is a need in the forward core. Sending back a LHS wing with Faulk makes sense.

The cap wouldn't have anything to do with a forward being part of the return. If you make a straight-up Faulk-Kase swap on CapFriendly, there's plenty of space available to stuff in all of our fourth-liners and have breathing room to expand the roster to 23 men.

As people always mention with Williams getting traded away, just because a guy had some injury issues, doesn't mean he always will (though there's certainly risk they will). He's on a cheap contract and a really solid player when healthy. It would be an outstanding move from the perspective of the team this year and asset management. Of course, Faulk calls the shots on this, and Luke doesn't usually seem to have great inside info, so we'll see.

Those are all good points and the Williams history should indeed be taken into account. But Williams hadn't suffered 3 verified concussions (and potentially 5). That's the rub for me.

Lol, there’s going to be a big letdown if Kase doesn’t happen.

I'm actually on the Troy Terry train or any of the other prospects along with pick(s). I think it works better for our team structure.

For instance, if I'm the Raiders, and Bill Belichick is on the phone, I'm hanging up.

While certainly one of the greats, I hate that cheatin' motherf***er!

I'm seriously going to post multiple biglaugh emojis if Kase is really the return, however, I just think that it's too good to be true unless a Geekie or a Gauthier is also going Anaheim's way.

I don't see it even if Kase is the return. The reality is this guy is one of the most injury prone players in the league over the last 3 seasons. There's a reason stats monkeys have to use the g/60 metric....they can't use anything that approximates points or goals per 82 games.

Man you two just need to rent a room and bang it out. The sexual tension in here is palpable

On top of that, we had the 2nd best argument on these boards since the "meet me behind Bojangles" argument. Pure entertainment.

This is definitely a "meet me in the Bojangles parking lot" type of interplay....why it took this long for anybody to suggest it just shows how much this potential trade has us off our game.

Putting it out there that I still don’t think we are. Would love to be on a list like this one at this time tomorrow though.

Neither do I....and we shouldn't be disturbed if we get a high end prospect and a pick back. That works too.

Not immediate issues, but I can see dropping a bit more cap for mid-season leverage for an acquisition, either Williams or someone else.
