Forced a handful of Ozone turnovers, good work along the boards, almost setup a goal. Heading in the right direction. 1st line or no line is where I stand with Dach and Newhook out.
Suzuki and Caufield looked great tonight, He was good at digging up the puck and getting it up to them. Unless it was just the Kraken that are that bad, out of question to break that line up for a couple of games.

I wouldn't expect that line to play as well versus top 5 -10 teams in the league because the team overall has struggled lately against those top teams, but they should be able to replicate their performance most nights if MSL keeps them together.

A real benefit is now that's he playing with confidence and getting a few points, opponents are respecting him more and he's using it to his advantage. I think he's going to get hot at some point and if he scores at home the roof is going to blow off

Hey rehabs I'm not a fan of the constant discourse on him you conduct but I gotta say you got them on this one.

Im a fan of his game and i think he figures it out and become a top 6 player but we can't really say he's dominated any of these leagues by looking at his stats. That said maybe some obscur slovak poster here has seen him when he was a wee boy and could vouch for the lad

He is 7th in league while being 2-3 years younger than most of these guys and played 20 less games how is that not dominating?

Slafkovsky GP: 23 PTS: 54
Mesar GP: 41 PTS 49

I agree he never "dominated" - a loaded word if there's any - but he managed to be the top scorer of his TPS U18 2019-2020 team, which shows he has some history of being an reliable offensive player among his peers, which is the reason why (I'm going to guess here) this whole "dominate" argument came up.
A player can "dominate" without necessarily filling up the score sheet. A kid as big as him in all likely hood just had his way physically playing against 16-17 year olds and dominated in terms of puck possession for example.

No re-litigation. The discussion was in the Mesar thread, someone asserted that Slaf dominated in his pre-NHL career and I looked up the stats. He did not dominate any league in which he played --- it could be because he was promoted too young/early/soon and too often, I'm not sure.

I would love t see his model for Dalibor Dvorsky. He started his season in Sweden SHL- 10GP 0P. Now he plays for Sudbury in OHL 17GP 28P (4th in league in PPG).
Now the question is. Is he a total bust or next superstar? Obviously nothing in between is an option :)

Byron Bader is not someone I particularly like and I don't think these sorts of models are predictive whatsoever because analytics cannot predict the future. But as a descriptive tool comparing historical trends to a specific subject, they can helps align what you see and feel with what is happening and has happened. Dvorsky's a funny case isn't he? Lots of pre-draft hype, then the big egg in the SHL, now smoking the OHL. Playing in the right division/league and thriving sure feels like it's good, doesn't it?

You're right, he smoked the Slovakia u16s when he was c. 13 years old. That is domination even if he didn't play the full season. I have a question for you: How good is that league relative to other u16 leagues that feed into the NHL? If I'm reading this correctly, there were just four players from that division/league season drafted by NHL teams and two of them are Slaf and Mesar.

I think for European prospects the reputation is that the best ones move up to higher divisions much more readily than in North America where only truly exceptional players move up in age ranks. As for Slafkovsky, it seems he's been bumped up (and down) mid-season a whole lot.

I wonder if it has ultimately helped or hurt his playmaking ability? This would be an interesting discussion to have with an amateur scout or coach who would have insight about this aspect of player development.

He looked great. I’ve been liking his work along the boards last several games and last night, he was really asserting himself. He has to continue to develop consistency and figure out he has play like this every night. Also, he should be a little more selfish and shoot more. As a natural playmaker, I get why he defers the shot, but he had a real prime opportunity off his steal from Beniers.

I know Slafkovsky is currently in the NHL…but you just wait until Lukas Vaculik blows up!

Based on his U16 ppg ratio, he should be the next Makar…NHL teams are sleeping on him.

"Slafkovsky's learning the game. He can't play his game until he learns the game. Once he learns the game, he'll know how to fit his game within the game." - me, doing my best MSL impression.

Came to me while I was watching him use that rush he showcased often in his draft year 😅

Does anyone else think slafs knee bend is too low and may explain why he seems sometimes to get pushed down too easy?

I made an exact opposite post earlier in the mile long thread stating I thought he was too up right. I thought a little more knee bend would help, stabilize him a bit when absorbing hits!! But what do I know LOL. Im just happy that he seems to be improving

Slafkovsky is a guy who now and in the future will do things that don't show up on the scoresheet. When he isn't putting up points, he can open up space for linemates and there's been some goals scored this year because of him screening the goalie in front of the net.

It is best not to judge his progress based on his stat lines, he has been progressing on the ice and in the future the points will also come.
