I see stuff like this every offseason, and it winds up being false every offseason.

They aren't dime a dozen. When they came here they were. When they left, they were important cogs. But, especially with Boyle, he became too expensive at about $2MM per season...it's too much. Is he replaceable? Of course, but likely not today on the fourth line. He needs to be replaced in relation t0 the team as a whole. Same with Stralman. Boyle isn't as good as Stralman, but recognize he brings something that Stralman doesn't, and if the extra points from him is enough to offset whatever Stralman brings remains to be seen. The complexion and play of this team will be a bit different next season. Perhaps a couple more goals against will be scored, but hopefully that will be offset by a few more goals for. I do look at this team as one that just went to the finals, but at the same time do not say this team, if it stayed together, begins next season in the finals, or even guaranteed a playoff spot. A lot of moving parts in the division and I expect some teams to play better next season, so perhaps a little roster juggling will go a long way.

bleed ranger blue...

Didn't you clamor for youth and a rebuild in the past?

Changed opinion?

Didn't you scoff at this roster being nothing more than a playoff bubble team...
now they're SCF contenders?

Changed opinion?

Didn't you mock anyone who said this roster could play a transition game under AV
and that Tortilla played a dumbed down game for a reason?

Now you want the roster kept intact?

How ridiculous. ...

We still need a center...Grabovski?

/damn cap!

Here's a crazy as crazy can be thought...

Ville Leino.

We can probably bring him in on a PTO. If nothing else, he'll at least provide Miller and Lindberg some competition so they're not handed the spot outright. We can't have them come into camp with the belief that they're only battling each other and "darkhorse" Mueller for the 3C spot.

Leino had a positive relative corsi last season despite 36.7% d-zone starts.

Could see him being a Sather reclamation project of sorts. And again, if nothing else, he'd provide another body in camp for JT and Oscar to battle with.

As I'm typing this I hate myself. Just a thought, no more, no less.

Not a fan of Leino, but considering the lack of depth on the roster right now, warm bodies will do (preferably better than Tanner Glass, please).

We also figured he'd be a good trading partner for us to get better at center (ie. ROR).

With Stralman gone, though, I don't see how you could afford to let him go now.

Ranger fans need to look for more than passing ability in a player they are moaning about resigning.

1g and 13a with no ability to run a PP is not lock up material...

While searching for Stralman videos, see if you can find game 2 against LA where Stralman
watches the puck trickle past him
while he lying in the crease...

Team needs goal scoring talent not one dimensional defenseman.

That was Klein not Stralman, and Lundqvist deflected it.

What a horrible day. We replace a 28 year old entering his prime with a 38 year old, for the same price, far past his prime.

We replace a fantastic 4th liner for 800K less with arguably the worst player in the NHL.

Boyle and Stralman were two huge reasons we made the finals. Now we have a crap Boyle and Tanner Glass who I hope we trade after training camp.

What's with all the Thornton Rumors? Who would the Rangers have to give up for him? Gerardi, maybe Staal.

I am not a fan of the Dan Boyle trade either.

Im pissed about letting Boyle walk and signing Tanner Glass. Stupid.

I dont hate letting Stralman go for D. Boyle. I think Dan Boyle adds a dimension that this team doesn't have.

Our center position needs to be improved. How? Trade, I spose. I wouldn't be shocked to see Staal+ traded for a significant center at some point. Hank's window is getting smaller, and MSL is only here this season. "Win Now" has never been more prominent in NYC, imo. Moves will be made, I believe.

Again, it wasn't our choice but Boyle's. He wanted a bigger role. We didn't hand it to him, TB did. This wasn't a decision made in a supermarket aisle by Sather.

Boyle and Strahlman announced through their agents fairly early that NYR was out of the running for their services. Could mean the money wasn't matching but that is terrible negotiating as things change rapidly. Tampa could have gotten a player that took away the cap or position Boyle/ Strahlman were seeking. NYR could have missed on a target and come back. When negotiating for dollars you don't remove bidders. This move implied other factors were keys. Strahlman wanted stability and a good city for his family. So it doesn't boil down to Strahlman asking for the same amount. He wanted more years and ruled us out before we signed D. Boyle.

Brian has been saying for months he wants more goals and isnt happy on the 4th. We have said absolutely nothing to appease him in that time. He has been a goner since April.

What dimension is that? An over the hill, flat footed D-Man, who hasn't been good on the PP since 2010?

Boyle yes, Stralman you're completely wrong. In fact, 10 minutes prior to free agency his agent was STILL waiting for the Rangers to give them a call. But they go and sign a lesser D-Man, who's finished, instead of a guy entering his prime who has grown through our system. BRILLIANT!

Really don't see any way Thornton comes here this summer. Pretty much impossible to work with the cap and not leave gaping holes on the team.

The way to solve the center issue is either via trading Staal, which opens up a ridiculous hole on our defense, or, throwing a whole bunch of **** at the wall and hoping something emerges in camp. Kind of like what happened with Stralman a few years back.

Lindberg
Miller
Leino
Mueller (Peter and Chris)
Ott
Loktionov
Miele
Schroeder
Santorelli

Whoever of the people listed below Lindberg and Miller that we can bring on PTO's, bring them in. Tell them they'll be in contention for the 3C spot with the big club if they can earn it. Hope someone sparks chemistry with a couple of our wingers, or has the drive to keep their NHL life alive.

Bolded are the dudes I'd put a focus on.

The more bodies in camp competing for the spot, the better.

What prime? How/what has he grown into?

A 1g 13p defenseman? He's a good passer....ok 13p?

Regardless of how u feel about D.Boyle, Stralman is not the guy you lock up for 5y with a nmc...
