You're more likely to win than lose with JT Miller on the team. Once they purge some more of the core, JT will become a valuable leader who will push accountability. And he'll lead by example on the ice. Who cares if he rubs people the wrong way? Most leaders do because they have ego, and that ego includes a drive never to lose. He's not here to teach philosophy, paint trees, or have team bonding coffee enemas with his teammates.

The team is better with JT on it but lets stop this fantasy of him being a leader. He got kicked out of Vancouver because he is a shitty leader.

And also, A good leader is not someone who rubs you the wrong way. A leader is supposed to inspire you to follow.

I am hoping Miller is that guy for the upcoming youth movement. Of course he isnt going to be that guy for the Mikas and Panarins on the team. Lets hope age and experience helps mold him a bit. Not a given but I will take my chances with Miller leading the kids vs Mika or Bread

Being realistic, no one here truly knows how Miller or anyone else is as a leader. None of us are not in any locker rooms. Likewise, beyond what Vancouver chose to drip out, none of us know what transpired that led to Miller's trade. The only thing I can take a best guess at is that from a long-term asset management standpoint, it makes far more sense for Van to keep the younger EP (especially when EP is playing a bit below his norm and his trade value might be a bit down). Mid-20s 90-100 point centers are not something you come by too easily.

Regarding good leadership, I don't agree. There is no one size fits all approach. For instance, I don't want or need someone to inspire me to follow. I want someone who will "rub me the wrong way." If my performance sucks or I appear off, I want someone who has enough respect for me and my time to tell me this directly. Others may prefer to be led in different ways: praise, reward, led by example, empathized with, and so on. An effective leader should know people are unique and as such they will have different ways they are motivated and/or want to be led.

Agree Miller's had some past stories circulate that were on the immature side. But who knows what he is like now and how he will engage with this particular roster?

Kakko's should've stayed open so everyone who wants to continue to follow his performance in Seatle and cry over spilled milk aka his development (I don't) would go there.
Anyone complaining about Kakko at this point isn't even bothering to see how little of a difference his play has been in the move to Seattle.

He's getting more Power Play time and playing on a higher line yet producing a whopping 11% more per minute. The fact that anyone cares at this point is laughable.

Also, this includes the 75 minutes of PP time he's gotten with Seattle (he had 0 minutes with the Rangers). That's over 2.5 minutes per game of PP time. And he's only producing barely 11%, 0.004 points-per-minute higher?

And some are mad about this?

Some. More will become mad if Borgen turns into Brendan Smith instead of living up to his new deal, but he's shown promising signs so far.

I think deep down most of us know what Kakko is. He's a slow, cycling two way forward who can score btween 30-55 points depending on how much PP and ice time he gets. Pretty much a classic middle 6 winger, although he's been painfully inconsistent with a trend of two steps forward, one step back pretty much every other year.

All else equal, NYR would be better with him than without him. And quite possibly we got the short end of the trade in terms of value with Borgen being a guy we had to sign to UFA money. But there's little question that Kakko would still be playing at around a 35-45 point pace if he was here.

Reminds me of when PA Parenteau went to the Islanders. He's gonna benefit from the time and space and company. Parenteau wasn't a two way guy like Kakko but the same idea applies.

Kakko and Chytil weren't the guys I wanted to trade, but neither will ever be star players. Neither move touches the Buchnevich disaster.

We've talked a lot about something just being off here with the way players end up.

Something stinks in Vancouver too. At one point they had Pettersson, Miller, and Horvat down the middle. Plus Hughes.

All that talent and it just ends up losing, disgruntled, and leaving.

Would the around the NHL thread make more sense for the KK stuff? He wasn't part of the JT trade. I think KK had a nice little trade bump playing large minutes with top line guys but I don't see any major difference in his goal scoring.
