PSA:

The reason I said "my initial offer" was because that is how trade talks generally go - you offer something lower, they come back with something higher, then you meet in middle.

I see Severson and a 1st rounder coming back as responses.

That to me means one of those assets would be a must.

How about:
Janne Kuokkanen
2022 OR 2023 1st rounder (Top 2 protected)
Subban 50% retained OR Reilly Walsh
If PSA stands for Pure S**t Attempt - than you're right - it was.

Vancouver will require far more quality. Severson is alright but not a piece I would target because I don't see him being a good partner for Hughes. Kuokkanen is meh, Subban @ 50% is a dump so the Devils would need to either add an asset of take a Canuck dump as well. Reilly Walsh doesn't have the value for JT Miller.

This is garbage. You should be ashamed for thinking this was fair value. Sorry if i'm being harsh but its for your own good.

Think about it... a couple decent trending former 3rd rnd picks and a project winger having a poor year. ....oh..and a second. You see.... this in the context of a trade for Jt. Miller is garbage. It's beyond garbage. And you shouldnt post that..because its a reflection of your knowledge in the sport of Hockey.

Jt. Miller is a PPG (141pts in 146 games over the past 3 seasons) first line player who can play all three forward positions including center where's he's 56% at faceoffs. He's more than a soft, flashy point producer, he brings grit, two-way acumen and hits.
Now go back and look at what you offered....does it still seem fair to you? I hope not...if it does, you have bigger problems

What a goof.
First you start with a HORRIBLE offer.
Then you respond by trying to explain how negotiations go, like we are all a bunch of idiots.
THEN, you start adding huge cap dumps.

Miller’s cost will be a 1st plus a top prospect.
No one wants a mixed bag of garbage for a PPG top line winger/center.

Your backpedaling actually make this thread worst.

Good job for outdoing yourself.

And/or a legit top 4 RHD who would pair with Hughes. We really have no need for a middling forward.

Others have already pointed out that NJ is a poor trading partner for Vancouver because both teams are thin at RD, but just for shits and giggles...

Severson
L. Hughes
1st (t5 protected)

Is the price I think it would be for Miller. Vancouver would get a haul for him if they traded him this season.

For JT Miller, it would have to be at least 1st and a mid-to-high end prospect/roster player. I look at what TB gave up for Blake Coleman. Adjust a little more for the talent. Different time though, given cap freeze and his contract size. I wonder where the Rangers are w/r/t to Miller, do they want him. Vancouver should go the Phoenix route and not want anyone back above ELC or maybe 2nd contract. With that said - would have to be something like

1st + Mukhamadulin + maybe something like a Sharangovich

Not sure there's a fit there.

JT Miller is signed for 1 more year, Devils aren't in a position to overpay. Also, other teams may not have the cap space and might need Van to take something back - which they may not want.

Rangers need another Center too if they're going to be serious contenders - Miller fits that bill, I'm sure they'd do a Braden Schneider+1st or Kappo Kakko

So your goal is to start a thread where the offer gets ripped apart until responses meet you in the middle of what you're willing to give? This is a forum not some negotiation with another GM.

This is probably ballpark. He honestly might cost more. What do people think a near PPG forward with another year on his contract is worth? Barclay freaking Goodrow cost a 1st round pick because he had another year on his contract.
Ok this is getting crazy. First offer by OP was way too little , then this is way too much. No way in hell I’d offer Luke never mind adding 2 picks. The kid is over a PPG as a freshman in Michigan playing on the second pairing and is 19 years old…
Severson plus a pick or prospect not named Holtz or Luke Hughes. If that’s not enough then the Devils don’t have enough to offer.

I appreciate the insightful and honest comment. I agree with you, but also understand why this wouldn't sit well with some Devils fans. Hughes is a player I would be reluctant to move if I was the Devils.

What would Vancouver be looking for from NJ in exchange for JT Miller?

My initial offer from NJ would be -
Janne Kuokkanen
2022 2nd round pick
Graeme Clarke
Reilly Walsh
So Canucks who gave a 1st round pick that was unprotected for a 3rd line Tampa Bay Miller will now turn around and trade the team scoring leader and 1st line player Miller for less? How does that make sense at all? Not even a 1st round pick? If NJ wants Millers, they need to give us Hughes and am talking about Jack Hughes. Miller is 20th in scoring league wide and is our best scorer right now. So NJ has to give us their top scorer not a bag of pucks.

Looks like the latter - and I don't blame you, but Kuokkanen just doesn't have the quality required to land a JT Miller asset.

You're crazy if you think Miller gets anywhere near a Jack Hughes in return.
This is worse than the horrible original offer
and the 1st they sent for Miller was protected

I counter with
Miller + Myers

For

Severson
Mercer/Holtz
Mercer is a no go. Not talking anything about value, just that there is no way the Devils would ever move him unless it is for a crazy ridiculous over pay. As in Quinn or Petey or Boeser plus.
Pick from Severson , Zacha ,Bahl , Okhotyuk , Walsh , Sharangovich , Foote , Boqvist , Clarke , Stillman , Subban at max retention , Kuokkanen , draft picks.
Smith and Holtz would suck to lose but one would probably have to be added I’m guessing .
I would include Bratt as well but for some reason 95% of Devil fans would not include him.

I wouldn't have any interest in Mukhamadulin. He is a boom or bust prospect, offensive LHD. This is not a need (Hughes and OEL). A roster filler like Sharangovich would be to balance the cap and offer a replacement roster spot but again not really a piece that would make the Canucks want to move Miller.

So beyond reality.

Miller is one year from UFA, and is a middle six guy at 28 years old. They'll get overpaid for him, but really - Jack Hughes. That's just comical.

making horrible trades the other way isn't funny or original
Am just saying that because OP wants to trade garbage for our 1st line forward. He says trades offers start very low so am assuming counter offers will start at very high price ;)
