Recalled/Assigned: JT Miller and Brandon Mashinter up; Ferriero down (2/18: Mashinter up with Powe out)

I think we need a little more offense from the third line. Boyle would be great on the 4th line.

I think bumping Boyle down a line would be fine but I would be very shocked if J.T. Miller was the guy to do it.

They should send down Bickel and let him get claimed. They should've kept Ferriero. Bickel sucks.

If Mashinter proves he is not quite ready to stick the Rangers will need Bickel. I also think Torts likes the option of having Bickel on defense in games where he is pretty sure it will get chippy (see Flyers, Bruins)

Well this is pretty freaking exiting. What the heck are the lines going to be? Miller has to play 3rd line atleast.

Ferrerio did a pretty good job but Mashinter may be around to replace Rupp. They should both come out pumped..........So Kreider down regardless now? Would be pretty balzy to play Miller with Kreider on a 3rd line soon though.

Would love to see 3 extra fast guys, Miller w/two of Kreider/Hagelin/Callahan since those 3 are W only.

Miller isn't playing anywhere other than the fourth line.

I highly doubt Miller plays center right away. He is more suited to wing right now and the Rangers don't lack NHL capable centers. Less defensive responsibility at wing.

What are you trying to say? Boyle has been great this year.

Great? Not in his all around game. On the PK and in his defensive game he has been great, but offensively he has 1 assist in 8 games and from what I can recall the closest he has come to scoring was a deflection against Tampa Bay the other night that went off the post. Like I said, he has a great defensive game but 1 assist in 8 games is pretty poor for a 3rd line center.

If Miller were to stick (or next year)

Gaborik - Richards - Nash
Hagelin - Stepan - Pyatt
Kreider - Miller - Callahan
Powe/Mashinter - Boyle - Asham
Ferriero, Halpern (2013)

Waiting in wings (next year)- Lindberg, Fast, Hrivik

This is a no brainer for Miller. He can't lose and the Rangers are NOT rushing him. The Rangers see a kid who has his feet on the ground and won't get shook up if he gets owned a little. Just a taste for him and a good chance to see how he handles himself.

I think Ferrieo will be back while Newbury is done coming. I almost positive Kreider will be sent down a la MDZ. Powe is Torts guy from what can see, hope he wont screw up. Mashinter is 24? Last chance, I guess. TJ is welcome, no one rushing him, normal process.

Anyone knows what Nos those guys will be wearing?

Miller just needs to keep it VERY simple. He's gonna be fine. I'm expecting very little at this point. It will just be interesting to see him get even 3 - 5 minutes.

True true, but considering our depth, he works well there. I'd be amazed if Miller managed to claim his spot.

From Corey Pronman's Twitter:

#NYRangers Miller started off not on the PP in the AHL, focusing on learning pro level D. Has steadily improved as season went on.

One NHL scout characterized J.T. Miller as "so bloody strong" especially for a player his age.

Id be amazed if Miller managed to claim ANY spot. Especially when Cally and Kreider are healthy.

I don't think he will either. But getting him a game or (2) to get his feet wet is a good play by the Rangers. Show him how much harder he has to work and send him back down with things to work on. Torts will absolutely love him.

Yea, certainly dont mind bringing him up for a few games here or there and letting him get a taste. But some folks here seem to think he is already a far better center than Boyle for whatever reason.

I would highly doubt this is Mashinter's last chance. From everthing I am seeing with the way he is being handled both in the AHL and now by the NHL club I suspect they are higher on him than people give them credit for.

He was playing a top-6 role in the AHL and now they trade Rupp away opening up a spot for a big, tough kid. Sire seems that way......

It's because this is a prospects board. People don't realize that it is a difficult jump to make.
