The only thing good about Armia on that line would be his ability to control the puck on the board. Not useless, but with a guy like Dach you need someone who can shoot the puck.

i think there is 3 options for the top 6 without Laine;
Anderson will probably gets the opportunity to play on the 2nd line. They will try to give him time and good line mates with the hope that he will find his game back.
Roy is a good fit because of his natural skills and his very good vision. I totally disagree with those who said that his camp was bad or that he wasn't implicated. He's a cerebral player, so his game is to analyse the play to predict what will happen instead of skating all directions. It isn't the first time that i see some fans from this forum that mix this kind of play style with lazy, un-implicated kind of players
Last option would be Kapanen because his good camp. ( he's also a good fit to play with Roy ) .
My ? concern is Newhook . Is he that good to pretend to be a top liner ? i am not sure. He seems to play a frisky game , trying to avoid any contact

He had four grade A chances today and set up a perfect chance for Armia. He's also very good at pressuring the weak side when the puck comes loose.
Some things are harder to see for the casual fan so I expect people to whine about his implication.

What you mean is skated around more.
Roy created more than Heineman and Tuch and did more for the cycle. Kapanen has been great.

Roy has been invisible all camp. He got outplayed by all three of these guys. All three deserve a roster spot before Roy. Send Roy to the AHL.
To think people were preaching for him to be on the second line. Guy hasn’t even looked like a full time NHLer this camp.
Lazy camp, probably thinks his spot is a lock.

Meh, for me, he's very overhyped by our fanbase. Showed nothing so far in camp and preseason. Straight to the AHL.

Suzuki, Slaf, Caufield, Demidov, Dach, Laine.
Assuming we don't re-sign any of Armia, Dvorak and Evans.
That would open the bottom six to players like Newhook, Kapanen, Heineman, Roy, Anderson, Tuch, Beck, Hage, etc.
Problem i have with Roy is that when you are a role players, you have to bring something to the table. Like Newhook speed, or Kapanen being a RHC, or Tuch physicality.
Players like Roy, smallish, low paced winger, not physical, if they are only 40-50 points producer holds at best marginal value in the league. He's not bad tho, he has good IQ, is a menace offensively, good hands, can patiently wait and profit from opening, very good positioning. I just see nothing really special here.
It can't be overstated how big of a year it is for him, to establish himself as a worthy NHLer. I would bet his future is with another team tho.

He had four scoring chances yesterday, including a breakaway. He had the second most scoring chances out of all our forwards after Dach.
You are the same as people who've been dismissing him, unable to discern what is lazy from what is just not a player that plays outside his limits. Your evaluations are misguided. You want him to skate around the ice like he's Paul Byron but he's not that. He's a player that slows down the play, puts pressure in the offensive zone by being positionally sound and that does the same defensively.
It's not too hard to see when you have an experienced eye, but for a more casual viewer I can see why it may be hard to see.
Good thing is, he's also got highlights.

He also made some very good defensive plays on Sandersons goal that were all taken away by Mailloux and Primeau.
Your evaluation is clearly not rooted in reality but mostly emotional.

MSL thinks he's a "very intelligent player" and that plays don't die on his stick (which is true). Hopefully the motor keeps doing and he makes it as a good 2-way middle6 winger

Roy is a facilitator. he plays slow skating wise, cause, well, he is... but he processes quickly. His game is all quick smart plays. I don't agree that he had a bad camp, I don't think he was superb but not running around the ice /= no effort. I do think he could be a good fit with Dach and Newhook who are both strong skaters that like to carry the puck and would allow Roy to play his cerebral game.
Roy is in that sweet spot where he can help now but could get traded in the future and it would make sense. He doesn't make or break our window, but he's got good value and he'll give us some scoring support.

I think people aren't as happy about his preseason because it looks like he's not getting as many puck touches and playing with as much pace as he did when he torched the AHL to start last season.
It would be nice if he could play more minutes, I wouldn't be disappointed if he got sent to the AHL to play on the top line.
Interested in your thoughts since you are high on him (he's probably my third favorite player in the team besides Dach and Hutson, I think his reaction speed and puck handling are amazing, wish he held on to the puck for longer and showed us his silky hands).
Torched is not what I remember. Really good run early on production followed by a lengthy zzzzzz.
Gets called up because well who else was there. Holds his own here gets remarked for intelligent play and then when he gets sent back down zzzzzz.
I was disappointed with his impact when he was returned to the AHL.
For all his IQ and defensive awareness he ended up -17 in Laval which wasn't nearly good enough.
He worked his way up the WJC line up didn't he ? That was through high motivation and tenacity so it's odd if he isn't showing that here regardless if the line he plays on.
Anyway, he is getting his chance but he needs to seize it pretty much now. Ylonen was given a full shot and he did nothing. So many prospects will be challenging for spots this year and next Roy has to take advantage of being on the roster by default basically.
Did you watch him play at the WJC? Because I don't think he's playing that differently this pre-season.
WJC yes, this pre season not so much so I'm going by the comments and added in " if" since I would expect a guy like Roy to almost always show up.

He could benefit being down in the A and getting top line and PP minutes......his camp has been less than expected.
He could also stay, in a limited role, and find his game. MSL will make the call.
