Roy uses this to a great start in Laval and be back up in few months. Armia was left unprotected last year and sent down. He was among our best players second half of season
Some posters mention how he always seems to be good, and then goes disinterested and then comes back and so on.............pretty sure that's part of why he went in the 5th round.....Too much floating in preseason. He bounced back from a setback in the Q, maybe they're banking on this being a wake up call.
... He's a bottom-2 forward. Which is perfectly fine since he knows it.
Pezzetta and ABB are perfect bottom 6 who can be on the press galery, then play 4 minutes a game or play 12 minutes a game. It doesn't matter, it have nothing to do with their developpment. Roy, Heineman and Kapanen need to play. They can't warm bench too long. In a way, Roy in Laval can developp more than Heineman with limited ice time in Montreal.I think Pezzetta is at that point where he is touching his prime and can play anywhere in the bottom 6. I'm not the type to label players in a very small range (bottom 2 forward). He's a very solid hockey player IMO
Roy will not be a sure shot top 6F at age 21. Probably best he goes to the AHL and matures his game a bit more.
It was a strange preseason. It might’ve factored into team play. The whole club sucked in preseason.Anyone think that all of the gooning caused players to be more tentative to avoid injury? Not just Roy but several players that thought they were shoe ins? I don’t believe this really but it’s just a thought
I’m not sure that MSL had better choices. It may have just been a message that his camp wasn’t good enough. It’s a good message to send if you want to keep a young player sharp. He’s part of their long term plans and this is part of the learning curve. Some posters mention how he always seems to be good, and then goes disinterested and then comes back and so on.............pretty sure that's part of why he went in the 5th round.....
Not everyone learns to be a pro right off the bat, there can be a process. You can see some offensive flair and talent, but there needs to be a lot more to his game..................he simply got outplayed by others and MSL had better choices.
The injury to Laine changed everything. The game plan, the hockey level was replaced by the fight code and it seems on a strict hockey level it disturbed the game itself. What is depressing is the PP still sucks and the PK too. It's not done for the season but let's say it doesn't look good.It was a strange preseason. It might’ve factored into team play. He was godawful at both side of the ice.On a side note, not many people talk about Newhook poor play in pre season.
Nobody said a lock on the 2nd, some might say he would fit or think, or suggest his name or what they see his progression might become, etc. They had in mind his good games and were expecting Roy could progress even more. It's like the half empty glass of water or half full. Those who like him see half full, those who, etc. The other options on 2nd line are not that great either, nhl teams are not Utica Comets, lol. Can't help but laugh at the Roy fan club saying he's a lock, on the 2nd line. That really demonstrates the lack of hockey acumen. Even funnier now that Roy was cut for being unimpressive at camp is the defending him that he should have had good players to so how impressive he is. Here's a hockey lesson, if you want to make a team, be impressive on your own than relying on others, those good players will make others impressive too.
Better choices, should have said better choices as in players who earned it...........played with more effort maybe.I’m not sure that MSL had better choices. Vets were all awful................playing not to get hurt, once the Laine, and Reinbacher injuries happened. He was godawful at both side of the ice.
Completely different player than Drouin. Drouin relied on speed and didn’t have a great IQ. They are opposites in this regard.Better choices, should have said better choices as in players who earned it...........played with more effort maybe.
I do think he is part of the plan, somewhat, but I don't see him in the top 6 of this team as it moves forward. Would love to be wrong.
Someone quoted that they thought of him as a less talented Drouin, and at this point, that is bang on. So we will see how he reacts to some adversity.
Many sure did say he was a lock and you know it. Many expected or wanted him to be on the 2nd line. Even read that some were suggesting that he could win the Calder. Not a lock but a future one
Going by how he played, Newhook didn't look like a guy not trying to get hurt actually. Very poor decision making all around despite the level of efforts.Vets were all awful................playing not to get hurt, once the Laine, and Reinbacher injuries happened.
Basically, if he scores two goals nobody talks about him. His play was sound, except for the last game. Perspective is a hell of a thing.Sure, but being slow and passive and not standing out does not make a guy Tyler Toffoli, feels like a bit of a jump. I’m not giving up on Roy.
I mean this is the fanbase that was penciling 50 for cole , way she goes around here in the offseasonMany sure did say he was a lock and you know it. Many expected or wanted him to be on the 2nd line. Even read that some were suggesting that he could win the Calder. ROFL
Cole came in guns blazing, scored at an absolute elite rate and looked absolutely dangerous every time he took a shot. Had he not had whatever happened this year, he had 40 in him for sure.I mean this is the fanbase that was penciling 50 for cole , way she goes around here in the offseason
Coaches are quick to identify elite hunger …Can't help but laugh at the Roy fan club saying he's a lock, on the 2nd line. That really demonstrates the lack of hockey acumen. Cole had something like 48 goals in his first 80 games under MSL. That poster's prediction wasn't exactly based on no track record.I mean this is the fanbase that was penciling 50 for cole , way she goes around here in the offseason
I don't think anyone thought he was a lock. People said that's where he SHOULD be - on the 2nd line. Many sure did say he was a lock and you know it. Many expected or wanted him to be on the 2nd line. Even read that some were suggesting that he could win the Calder. ROFL
Yeah, how could people be so stupid as to think a 22 year old who scored 48 in 82 would have a shot at 50? What a bunch of clowns.I mean this is the fanbase that was penciling 50 for cole , way she goes around here in the offseason
