He's gotta drive the net more and move his feet more. You can't slow down every time you have the puck and always move it. That's Shane Wright shit.
He's got 2024 Montreal Canadienitis. It afflicts players based in Montreal over the course of the 2024-25 season. It's highly contagious and very few people have the antibodies to stave off infection. Those with known immunity are: Lane Hutson, Cole Caufield, Nick Suzuki and Brendan Gallagher. Everyone else is at risk.

Slaf has 14 points in 20 games while missing 3 games due to injury and playing with different linemates every 4-5 games. He had suzuki, caufield, dach, evans, dvorak, gally, anderson as linemates in less than 20 games.
You forgot Newhook.

I can only see him on a top 6 as a temporary solution on a very weak team… Unless he gains some jump, which I doubt at this point. Unfortunate, but he has to figure it out if he wants a career. Hudon looked dynamic compared to him!

I stand by what I said. If he proves me wrong, kudos to him but, I can't see it happening.
The problem is the jump up in speed from the AHL to the NHL. In the AHL, Roy's skating is about average and he is able to create the time and space he needs to use his superior hand skills. In the NHL, Roy's skating is well below average and he is, at least as of now, unable to create the necessary time and space to make the plays he could in the AHL and in junior. Roy was measurably a step behind the play during his short call up. He couldn't jump into the open space when same was available and generally looked like a deer in the headlights. The NHL game is simply too fast for him, as it is for a majority of the players in the AHL.

While it's too early to close the book on Roy, his window of opportunity is closing and closing fast. There are way too many other prospects both in Laval and elsewhere ( Demidov, Hage, Beck, Tuch, Davidson, etc.) who play at a much more dramatic pace and who will soon (or have already) passed Roy on the team's depth chart. If he's going to have a future in Montreal he's going to have to make it as a top six, offensive player. The competition will be fierce. Unless he can find that extra gear, his chances of playing in the NHL, at least for Montreal, are looking bleak.

While it's premature here, it's pretty close to it being said he doesn't have a future here and should be used in a trade before his value drops like Farrell
I kinda agree except recent history shows Habs don't trade their players when they have an high value. Like Anderson 3 years ago and Matheson last year. But keeping Roy could benefit if he becomes better. I'm 50%-50% confident he will become a nhl regular player.

Yeah, so far this management has shown they'd rather run someone's value into the ground before dealing them if they're younger

Yeah.

Worst thing we could do. Either you bring him up and play him or just let him be. The team is such a mess right now I don't know why they wouldn't just leave him in Laval. Unless you're going to give him top six time, don't bother bringing him up. Yo-yo'ing him isn't going to help him.
they always bring them up then shove them on the 3rd or 4th line and barely play them so stupid

once again not a fan of some of the choices they make regarding development. I know when Roy was called up he said he was having a great season and I know that Vincent said something along the lines that when the Habs contacted him, he showed them a video of Roy fighting for the puck.

But if you watch my vids, you see him skating half ass much of the time, granted his stats 100% look the part, but the effort wasn't there consistently and to me that's a bad message to send as it sounds like Roy isn't getting whatever message they want him to get, so why bring him up as a reward if he's not getting the message?

That said Laval has some really tough games upcoming with the Marlies so they badly need Roy as him and Davidson seem to be the only ones that can put the puck in the net with any consistency.

Roy and Mailloux are both in tough spots in their development, as both have the production but it's the holes in their games that show they need more time in the AHL.

Maybe Davidson is the next one who can get a call. What are Davidson flaws for the nhl level?

Davidson looks good at the AHL level. He has above average straightforward speed for the AHL but currently lacks NHL level quickness and agility. These deficits may limit his offensive effectiveness at the next level. But this kid’s compete level, excellent shooting ability, physicality and never take a shift off approach makes him a bright prospect who is quickly rising on the Canadiens’ depth chart. If he gains that necessary extra step of quickness I see a future bigger, more robust Gallagher.

He's showing the stuff that made me look on him as Seattle's best player in the Mem Cup.
Not the flashiest nor the most talented (Dylan Guenther) but the one creating the most positive events particularly in the Ozone.

Equally important: this kid is a leader. A player you want to go to war with. I’ve watched him closely in Laval this year and that leadership factor comes through clear as day every game, every shift.

It’s a quality that can’t be taught or coached up.

I have serious doubts that Mailloux will ever develop the skating skills that will allow him to be a competent NHL defenseman. If he makes it to the NHL it will be as a forward.

that would be another poor choice of development. He needs to work on his speed and skating.
So what’s the solution? Every team in the league gives their most productive AHL players a cup of tea when a roster spot opens up.

I have a hard time believing a handful of nhl games ruins prospects.
