We shouldn’t trade anything for him. If he wants to sign here as a cheap UFA fine. Don’t disrupt the rebuild for a quick fix. And definitely don’t trade assets.
PLD is not a quick fix. He is 24 yo ppg player with size. If you have an opportunity to get him for a reasonable package, you should do it and make him part of the core.

That being said, the fact he probably wants to play in Mtl gives HuGo a big advantage

I wouldn’t pay what the poster you were responding to was proposing though.

But my package would include Dvorak and Harris as pieces that can help Winnipeg right now, which would probably be an ask from them. And we probably would need to include our 2nd (top 40) or the late 1st we would get for Monahan at the deadline.

Habs are in a position now where they can give up that kind of pick or even a decent prospect.

Right now Habs need to add top end talent, which they will get with our 1st and Florida’s. PLD would also bring that.

I propose we wait for him to be UFA. If he wants to sign here, so be it. Just make sure it’s for a cheaper deal.

I also propose that I go to bed now.

Happy new year everyone!

About $1.5M dollars

I don't get why so many people want to trade for Dubois - he's going to sign another one-year deal and be a UFA the following off-season. If he really wants to play here, he will.
I think you answered the wrong post but that's fine. Blame substances, it's common in new years party, lol.
I have mixed feeling about PLD. He's a good player but not quite elite. Yes we might have him free in one year and an half but maybe not. If he is traded somewhere else before he accept an offer from Hughes. Not overpaying to get him earlyer just to be sure we have him is a safe move.

With our 2023 1st round pick, not sure mesar will have a top 6 role.
If one of those 1st round picks turns out to be Dvorsky, I see an offensive 3rd line of Slafkovsky - Dvorsky - Mesar which I would be quite happy with.

I am very surprised to admit that Joshua Roy has easily been the most impressive Habs prospect at this tournament. Others have been ok but he has been very, very good. The commitment to playing a strong 200 foot game and the willingness to battle in the dirty areas and excel has been an eye opener for sure.

These tournaments ultimately don't mean that much when projecting NHL success but you can clearly see that he has taken a big step in his development and has fully embraced his off season directive from Habs management to play a more complete game.

I haven't watched but is he actually better than Wright and Fantilli?

How do you assess the D?
In this tournament. Yes. In the future who knows?

On defense, Zellweger and Delmastro are the only ones who come close to him. Roy has probably the most complete game (200 feet) of any of the forwards. Gaucher and Stankoven are the forwards who are close to him when it comes to importance.

In six months this kid has been on a steep development curve. He has improved immensely from the summer world juniors.

I get serious Pacioretty vibes from Wright, and it's not because MP hit 40 either. I am so glad we didn't take him.

Pacioretty had serious wheels though. Wright doesn't seem that fast.

He gives me Michael Ryder vibes. Not a bad thing, but not what people expected.

Agreed, and for me the MP vibes are more about Attitude than about skill.

I don’t know who Wright reminds me of, but it’s not pretty.

I honestly hadn’t seen him play before this tournament, and I can’t believe he was a consensus #1 pick for so long. What a weak year… all he does is quick one-touch passes and hang around the slot, usually in the wrong spot, on the PP.

I think of a time 10 yrs ago, attitude. Beware of players showing too much arrogance attitude, it doesn't work long term. Make the proof long term you're elite player and/or that the rest of the team agree with your attitude demonstration before showing it.

Imagine trading a ppg+ 6’2” centerman with 17 goals so far as you are looking at a playoff run season for Dvorak.

Maaaaaaaybe next summer something happens.

When I read Dvorak in a trade proposal to get Dubois, I'm thinking it's sarcastic or a joke. If Barron, Mesar or Harris is mentionned, then I think it's more serious.
Dvorak is an apetizer, not the meal.

PLD can come here in free agency if he wants to play in Montreal so bad.
Not giving up assets for a big baby.
We aren't even close to contending so why rush a trade? Seems like the type of dude who says "he wants to play here" until he's actually here. Probably a negotiation ploy because he hates playing in Winnipeg anyways.

Guess who was the GM of the Rangers.
Guess who was the GM of the Jets.
Guess who was a pending RFA with 1 year left and arbitration rights.
Guess what Dubois will be at the end of this year?

You don't get full value for your player if he controls his own destiny, only wants to sign long term with one team. Which is what happened with Trouba and is rumored to be happening for PLD.
