Josh Ho-Sang is an Islanders top prospect and one of the most gifted players in the OHL, but you wouldn’t know it if you asked many Canadian hockey people.

Ho-Sang was not even interviewed by 12 teams prior to last year’s draft despite being called “one of the most highly skilled players in the draft.” This week, Matthew Barnaby got on the youngster for supposedly only trying hard for one shift (which many who saw the game in question have contested) in a contest that was meaningless to the playoff standings. So meaningless, Connor McDavid didn’t even dress.

In the wake of this, The Hockey Writers’ Pete Judge has come to Ho-Sang’s aid with an impassioned defense....

no one should give a flying **** what matt Barnaby thinks

No one does. The only reason he has the job he has is because one day Milbury will pass away, and JR might get eaten by a space alien in search of cow butts.

You can add another play to the highlight reel for Joshua Ho-Sang.

The Islanders’ prospect made an impressive spin-o-rama, no-look pass to set up a goal in Monday’s 6-2 win for the Niagara Ice Dogs. The play occurred in the second period of game three of an OHL playoff series between the Ice Dogs and Ottawa 67’s. Ho-Sang did a 360-degree spin and then made the no-look pass to to Dan Maletta, who scored the goal.

Anyone that's not a prospect fanboy think that this kid may be able to make the jump next year?

Highly doubt it. Look at Jon Drouin for example. Elite playmaking prospect who's been in and out of the lineup down in Tampa Bay and has like 3 goals with 25 assists and Drouin is on a completely different level than Ho-Sang. He's better off getting another year under Marty Williamson who seems to have Ho-Sang heading in the right direction.

I appreciate the reference, and I was thinking the Globetrotter comment the other day. I understand why Ho-Sang was insulted. Really, I do. But you gotta admit, he really does play like a Globetrotter! He's that skilled

I don't see how anyone expects Ho-Sang to make the team next year. I'm a huge MDC fan and I don't think even he's making the NHL next year either, and I think he's close to ready.

He's not ready for next year, and it's got nothing to do with our team depth. Watched some of the game last night (see the prospects string) and while his skating (acceleration, topspeed, and edges) and puckhandling are NHL level now, he's still prone to defensive gaffs and taking chances he simply won't get away with in the NHL.

He starts in the AHL with MDC AFTER next season.

I'm going to try and catch a live playoff game, but I agree with you on where Ho-Sang is in his development. He's a few years away at least, with lots to prove in the interim. I see him in the Kabanov-level of doubt (talent vs. work ethic vs. all-around play). Ho-Sang isn't exactly tearing up junior hockey offensively nor is he big or tough or a great defensive player. He's got a long road ahead of him.

I don't think Kabanov is a fair comparison. Ho-Sang is a far superior player. He's 81 points in 60 games for two awful teams.

Kabanov wasn't even close to those totals.

Ho-Sang is also a much more spectacular player, in terms of skill than even Kabanov. He needs to polish his game, for sure; but the Kabanov comparison is quite unfair, in my opinion.

Come on, Kabanov barely over a PPG in juniors. Ho-Sang has broken that and broken it hard every year after his rookie year.

Kabanov and Ho-Sang's situations are different. Kabanov had toxic advisors (wasn't his father his agent and hated by most?), was late to meetings, and didn't show any on ice talent really. Ho-Sang is just cocky and that turns teams off (I personally love it) and has played a high level in juniors just isn't scoring goals.

Also, Kabanov played on good teams, Ho-Sang has not.

Honestly, based on the depth we now have at the NHL level i see it going like this:

Ho-Sang - will spend the next two seasons after this one in the AHL putting weight on and growing into his body. With the hope after that his game is NHL ready and hes a top prospect ready to make a big impact around 20-21 years old in the NHL.

Dal Colle - Will spend next season in the AHL, the entire season. Unless he just completely tears it up and I mean leads the league in scoring tearing it up or in the top 5 of the AHL and is completely dominant in camp to start the year. Than he has a shot to be a mid-season call up. However, I see him spending the full season in the AHL next seaon before he makes the jump.

Reinhart & Pulock - will compete for viz's spot on the team next year and the other one spends another year in the AHL. Reinhart may be older but this isn't high school the better player in camp makes the team and the other goes back to the AHL for one more season and is the first call up if there are any injuries. Whoever goes back to the AHL will take over for Hickey the following season. Two years from now our D should look pretty sick. All big, strong talented guy.

Leddy - Boychuck
Hamonic - Pulock
De hann - Reinhart

Sick top 6 potential defense in two years! Will be top 3 in the league if Pulock and Reinhart develop as we hope!

Don't believe either one of them can be in the AHL next year, it's either juniors or the big club.

Just trying to figure out which of those guys will be sitting for Strait every night, can you clarify?

MDC can't play in the AHL next year, also those pairings don't work because of handedness.
