Disagree, that's 8 million that could be better spent and since shoulder injuries are almost a guarantee to never go away it's a matter of when not if imo. The org is looking to shake things up so he is the obvious move given how much better Chabby has been with Jensen. Even if they get peanuts for him, great, that 8 mil could easily get a better player on July 1 or failing that(cause it's Ottawa after all) gives the team FAR more flexibility going forward to make all sorts of moves that were non options under EM's ownership. And saying he's the best defensive centre on the Sens does not remotely make him a good defensive centre and I would argue he isn't that anyway since Timmy is better 2 way imo
If Norris is traded in a good hockey deal, it could benefit Ottawa, yes.
So sure, if another team wants to meet the price for a 25 year old C who can score 35 goals and offers something that improves the team (say a physical top 4 RD), pull the trigger.
But trading him “for cheap” while taking back a large contract (like LA did with Kuemper for Dubois)?
No sense or logic in doing it.
And Ottawa doesn’t need cap space for July 1st. They’re a market that’s unlikely to attract good UFAs, barring big overpays in salary or term (and even then you’re looking at the guys who are 33 years old +, not the premier options like a Nik Ehlers). They’re not going to be able to sign a better player than Josh Norris for less money than he’s currently making. Teams like Dallas or Florida can clear salary in anticipation of signing top UFAs… not Ottawa.
