That's funny because our Gm on record said he had turned down a 1st for him already. Based on what Tampa gave up , glad he did decline.

Wether you like it or not, GM's value Anderson's fighting, hitting, speed, and consistent 20 goals a year average. His contract is perhaps 1 million over paid. Big deal. What players isn't these days. Most are.

Cool. My mother once told me Santa Claus was real.

People can say whatever they want. Canada is a free country.

& from Hughes perspective it would make sense to publicly inflate his alleged value.

Not interested in Josh Anderson’s contract for free. Not for Knies and a 2nd, not for a 7th, not for future considerations.
Decent player that plays a style that’s hard to find but he is paid far too much for far too long. He is injury prone and part of why his style is so hard to find is it leads to a short career and he is 29.

You are ignoring that even though Tampa overpaid the reason Jeannot had so much value is because he is cost controlled.
would you have him on a boat or perhaps when riding a goat?

I might add, Jeannot is probably going to have a similar contract this summer to what Anderson already has. Given how Tampa gave a lot to get him, they can't easily nickel-and-dime him.

I think Toronto and Carolina should look long and hard to adding Anderson.

I don't see Montreal moving him for less than Jeannot.
Knies, a 2nd and some expiring contract Toronto needs to move out from ?

But Jeannot isn't a UFA/pure rental. He'll get re-signed. For significantly more money.
Leafs aren’t moving Knies, especially for Anderson. We see Anderson far too often to move a player like Knies for him

Maybe I’ve been acclimatized to so many bad contracts over the years on the Habs I see absolutely nothing wrong with Anderson’s deal for what he brings to the table and happy to keep him unless someone offers the proverbial offer we can’t refuse

You mean Anderson the same guy the terrorizes the Leafs every game he plays? If anything you guys should be begging for us to do Knies, ++ for him.

Habs fans gotta relax man. Most of the reason TB paid that price for Jeannot, like they did with Hagel/Coleman/Goodrow, is because of the low AAV and cost control (Jeannot is an RFA and after this season, won't be looking at a huge raise).

Anderson checks neither of those boxes. He's overpaid and is signed long-term.

That's a crock of shit

Or at best lying by omission, such as the other team wanting retention from MTL + sweetner coming back with other parts involved, or something.

If you think your team turned down a 1st round pick for him straight up no strings, I have a bridge to sell you

Anderson will get an easy 1st + a good prospect with no retention in the off season , if not this trade deadline.

If there is any retention it will be about 1 mill max.

Hughes waited out because he knew he will get more than a 1st. And have to take on zero retention.

That's awfully confident on your part. The guy has been pretty damn inconsistent, has had problems staying on the rink, has scored at a 33 point pace over the last 4 years.

Coupled with 4 more years on his contract at 5.5 million, it's hard to see him being valued anywhere near where you have him.

Irrelevant when we are talking GM's who go gaga for a big fast skater who occasionally hits aand can put up 20 goals. 5 draft picks for Jean-not. 3 less draft picks for a higher cap pick seems resonable.

he scores 24g per 82 games since joining the habs.
he's been a big game player for us, but inconsistent at times.
overall, heù,s a good player, but got a tad overpaid by a gm drooling over his size, speed and toughness.
good news for us, there are still a majority of gms in love with this type of player.
a deal in the summer is a lot more likely due to his contract.
expecting a good return (protected 1st+), but will most likely come with a 'bad' contract, see Pacioretty for Tatar + Suzuki + 2nd.

But then it doesn’t make any sense at all to inflate his alleged value when you don’t want to trade the guy.

Getting a 1st for Ben Chiarot was a cathartic fan experience. Some really want to feel that high again.

Yeah, I do remember Habs fans being laughed at by 31 other fanbase about how insiders knows nothing, were wrong and that Chiarot would be lucky to even get a 3rd rounder

The way Columbus fans used to talk about him, I'm surprised they aren't offering up Kent Johnson

Anderson (50% retained) and a 2nd for future considerations
Sweet. Just got back from the future. Jack Hughes & Simon Nemec were the future considerations. Thanks! Appreciate the deal!

With Jeannot returning a boatload, what could Habs get for Josh Anderson? He's got 17 goals in 57 games. He's big and fast, hard to play against in playoffs.

A similar player locked up long term Anderson would have higher value. Habs could take contract back as have 20 million coming off their cap this summer.
He doesn't have higher value, IMO. The contract is not great. It ties up cap for many years.

However, I never thought we'd get a 1st for Anderson. I do think if Hughes traded him at the Deadline, he'd get a 1st and more, which is insane for such a mediocre player (although he's probably having his best all around season this year).

He got a boatload because his anchors don’t sink the boat….

Wasn't petry supposed to get a 1st too? Instead MTL took on an even worse deal in matheson.

Habs fans said Edmundson would definitely grab a 1st, which also hasn't happened yet.

About 4 more yrs of winning a trade by a landslide even before seeing their new players play. So far its Smilanic and Cedric Guindon.
