I'm curious what other fans think Anderson should have been paid - personally as a Habs fan I don't think the contract is an albatross, I also don't think that trading him should be the priority unless the return is right. We have a lot coming off the cap next season and other priorities to trade.

I also don't think evaluating a player like Anderson based purely on points is looking at the whole picture.

A lot of UFA contracts essentially drop a player's value to zero:

1. If you're willing to spend that kind of cash, you can get a similar player for free as a UFA.
2. UFA contracts, by their nature, are dictated by the market but also tend to be way too large.

You can't just sign a bunch of UFAs for UFA contracts, which tend to be overpaid to begin with, and then flip them for assets. You really think you can just sign a player like J. Andersson and then expect LA to give up a great young player on an ELC? Why would the do that. Why wouldn't they just sign Andersson, or a similar player, on the market for a massive contract.

Just as fun as thinking Villardi is worth a 1st rd pick.
Guy can't skate and can't produce offensivelly...

Vilardi has 5 points in 4 games. He was drafted #11 overall and seems to be progressing very well for a power forward drafted at that position. He's easily worth a first round pick.

Anderson was an RFA I believe when he came from Columbus -I'm not sure what his status at signing has to do with value anyways.... We can argue on whether he has value, but personally I wouldn't move him as a 'cap dump' because I don't believe he is one. I don't think LA takes the deal (I didn't suggest it), I just think there are a lot of teams that would value Anderson based on more than just points.

RFA with 1 year and arbitration rights , Canadiens we’re given 2 options long term deal or 1 year deal. They took long term

Either way, Anderson signed the UFA contract and got paid well into his UFA years. He's already 28 and signed until 32-33. Anderson isn't a prospect on a RFA, and a player like him can easily be picked up for free as a UFA if your throwing those kinds of funds at players.

It’s early, but that second statement has been proven false.
Yup. Its intriguing anyway. He only played a few games each season and one covid one.

All seasons were in the 15-20 goals range over a full season. Than you read statements like he cant produce offensively, something you read quite frequently. Yes it should/could be better but it was a myth.

Anderson and Gallagher are in the trash bin category. You hope some team will take them off your hands. Every team has at least 1 bad contract. Pumping them to say they bring character, grit, size, whatever won't justify the price tag (cap space) they take up. Way to long of a contract to move either of them unless a sweeter is added + retention. Asking for one of the Kings top forward prospect and a RHD is laughable.

I think with retention either of those guys would make a contender happy at the deadline, frankly.

But trying to trade Anderson for Vilardi then proceeding to call Vilardi a waiver-fodder bust while he's one of the top scorers in the league is a typical MTL-to-LA thread unfortunately.

I am curious what would need to be added to Anderson to get to Vilardi, it would be mountainous though
