That’s pretty “consistent”, for someone who actually has crash & bang to his game - which inevitably results in getting injured.

Many of you are expecting an $8M player output for his $5.5M AAV - which BTW is $4.8M - $5M AAV in a low tax / geographically desired NHL locale
Trying to justify his salary using taxes etc. Priceless. Fact is he is being played to play 82 games and score goals and produce points and he does not at a high enough rate. Fact is he only has 180 points in 412 career games which averages out to 35 pts/82 games...ouch.

In team building it’s not only about G / A and pts. Need different types of players w varied attributes.

Anderson’s combination of elite (size + speed) + 20G+ output and ability to drop the gloves as needed, makes him a rare unicorn in the NHL

I've noticed him penalty killing a fair bit recently. I think with some coaching he can probably be pretty good at it given his speed.

That's one hell of a round up because he's not even on pace for 24 over 80 games. And since he's already missed a couple, he's on pace for closer to 23.

He also has 2 assists in 24 games. On pace for under 31 points.... which would be his lowest production as a Hab.

His points per 60 minutes (about 4 games worth ice-time) is 0.375. Compare that against let's say, Slafkovsky's per 60 minutes (about 6 games worth of ice-time) which is at 0.381.
Odd how, despite the views of elements of the HFHabs hivemind (and main board loudmouths), Anderson is very, very strongly reputed to have genuine trade value and genuine trade demand.

We have heavier contract anchors than Josh's. I'd certainly prefer to play him than routinely play against him.

From our GM stating he had a lot of interest? There are lots in the media who think he's not worth his contract either.

He's a f***ing 30-35 point player for $5.5M. Admittedly, he's not been such a sore spot defensively recently - I'm not really sure why, which is a very good thing.

If Gallagher is a bad contract, Anderson is a bad contract too. They bring the same offense. Anderson brings more punishing physical play, Gallagher brings better defensive play.

And just because a player has interest doesn't mean they have good value. Someone could like Armia and have interest, but they'd only do it with a similar contract coming back, etc.

Anyone who thinks Anderson is worth a 1st round pick is living in some weird alien world.

At the end of the day I hope you're right. But if some team offered me a 2nd round pick for him today, he'd be on the next plane out of town. Honestly, I probably do it for a 3rd round pick too.

Yesterday he was on a 2 on 1 with Slafkovsky and instead of passing to Slaf he dumped the puck in the corner lol
We will never call him a playmaker that's for sure........he has all the size, and speed, and can do something that is essentially the most important part of the game, score goals.....that said, I think HuGo gets a haul for him and we cut bait.........not sure I want him gone, but with some kids coming he might be going elsewhere.

Thank god you're not GM anymore Réjean.

Unless you’re getting a player that has similar abilities or attributes, there’s no reason to get rid of Josh Anderson. He’s not our biggest problem, and with our current roster still mostly being very small up front, his presence is needed. He’s never going to be a playmaker, but his passing game has improved. He’s killing penalties now (and doing a half decent job!) and he’s third on the team for goals scored behind Suzuki and Caufield.

I don’t see Hughes moving him, unless it’s such a massive overpayment that he can’t turn down the offer. Like it or not, he is one of the handful of true power forwards that are left in the game, and his unique skill set is coveted. When the cap increases dramatically over the next couple of years, his contract will be fine… I see him as a third line right winger when our core matures, who kills penalties, and helps protect the smaller guys.

Josh has been much more noticeable recently.
I know he worked with the Habs skills coach alot this past summer.
He seems to hang on to the puck more and looks to make plays which is an improvement.

Hard to argue with anything in this post.

I read somewhere that he's been told to reinvent his game. Maybe this is the first signs of a successful transition into a new sort of player.

I think the argument Beendair Donedat puts forth is correct. He's valued across the league for something he has that many players don't have. The issue is the thin line between a pointless and frustrating big body like Armia 2022 or Rene Bourque and Josh Anderson at his best.

Well 2 things.

1. I hope Farrell plays with Slaf. So I hope they're on the 2nd line together with whoever is the 2nd best center left after TDL.

- I don't mind Anderson on a 3rd line. But if trading him helps the tank and gets us a good future, I'd pull the trigger. Hopefully Heineman helps our team size next year.

If this team is within 4-points in the standings of a wild card spot @ deadline, there will be no tanking by selling key vet contributors IMO.

Drouin, Dadonov, Hoffman may very well get moved if there are any takers but that’s about it IMO

Correct me if i am wrong here, but in the playoffs, you can count on Anderson to show up and be a big reason why your team wins 1 or 2 games in a seven game series. everyone knows this and that is why he is valuable, and every playoff team will find a spot for him on the roster.

1. That's a big if.

2. Florida, Det, NYR, NYI, and Caps will all be fighting for the last 2 playoff sp ok ts. Hard to see Hughes thinking we can surpass 4 of those 5 teams. So he may be ready to fold up the tent early, if more excellent futures present themselves, and be ready to load up for next year's battle this summer with our extra cap space.

Yes - definite IF factor.

There’s an aspect that’s not being talked about, the Atlantic division is more evenly spread in points than it has ever been, meaning more team will be in running till the end of season.

If indeed this upcoming draft is generational, and more teams are within earshot of playoffs at deadline, there just may be very little in way of activity as GMs remain status quo

It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Will Bubble teams give up a 1st to ensure they make the playoffs or not want to risk it?

Detroit, NYR, NYI, and caps are the teams I most want to trade vets to - because if we help two of those teams make the playoffs, it likely means Florida is out, and we get a 2nd lottery pick. But will any of those 4 teams be willing to give us their 2023 1st? Probably not. But I'll take their 2024 1st, especially if it's unprotected.

Yeah Anderson is weird I feel like in basically every playoff series he is in he carries his team to victory essentially on his own atleast 1 game some times 2 and after that doesn't put up a ton of points but is a physical menace.

MSL last week said he made a mistake and should have been using Anderson regularly on PK as he was in CBJ
He was good under Torts defensively and that was his best season too. It's interesting that once he was traded to the Habs, Julien never bothered trying him on the PK and his 5v5 defensive game plummeted.

Maybe Anderson is on pace for an other 30 pts season, but he's on pace to score close to 25 G what is solid for the type of player he is.

Since he's in MTL, if we put his stats on a 82 games, he's averaging by seasons:

24 goals
36 points
193 hits
