Jordan Nolan sucks: Kings lose to Boston 3-1

Quick's SV% was actually over .900 for a change... not the game to hang on him, but as far as key saves at the key times... yeah, that ship sailed in December.

December and January have been TERRIBLE months for the Kings the last 3 seasons. Just be happy tomorrow is Feb-1.

He had key saves at key times in the first and second as well as early in the 3rd. I mean Christ, does he have to get a shutout every game?

I remember Brown saying after winning the Cup last year that nobody had to play out their skull, but just everybody play a good game and they will almost always come out on top. Well, not this year. With the downgrade in defense somebody on the team has to play MVP hockey each night to barely eek out wins. Somebody has to say "I'm taking this game over! Who is coming with me!"

It's games like this that make all the lost and wasted points against lesser teams than Boston hurt more. The 3rd period leads that were lost at home against Calgary. A shootout loss in Edmonton. A 1-0 loss in Buffalo. A 3-2 loss in Carolina. A loss at home against NJ. A loss at home against the Flyers.

1-6-2 on the road against the East. 16 non-EN/SO goals scored in 9 games. Carter, 2 goals in 21 road games. Kopitar, 2 goals in 18 road games. Clifford, 1 in 19. Nolan, 1 in 9. McBain, 1 in 6. Stoll, 2 in 21. Richards, 4 in 20. I know teams focus on Kopitar and Carter, but they're also making more money.

5-10-6 on the road, 13 home games left, 21 road games left. The Kings are going to have to have a massive turnaround on the road or this is over

Good first 40 minutes, but the likes of Kopi and Gaborik simply cannot be that invisible

Win thread title

Decent game. Deserved better. I just don't understand why we're not getting bounces this year. Gotta get better on the road or you can kiss the playoffs bye bye. Not to mention Colorado and Dallas are on our heels now too.

I don't disagree, but unfortunately they ****ed around too much in the 1st half to be able to take this outlook at this point in the season, all things considered.

Agree with both of these.

Not hitting the panic button because if we play like we did the last two games for the rest of the season good things will have to happen. Unfortunately results matter at this point and I'm as pissed as anyone that we didn't get two points (well...maybe not :P) but in the big picture we've played two of our best full game efforts of the season against the Hawks (who usually wreck our lives) and the Bruins who have lost ONE game since the turn of the new year--8-1-1 hottest team in the league. If we keep this intensity up, we'll be all smiles soon.

Thank GOD January is over.

These guys need to find the will to win, because they don't want to win badly enough yet.

Thankfully, the Kings sucked last Dec-Jan as well. Time to turn it ON.

Then they deserve to lose. They are nearly 50 games into the season, what exactly are they waiting for?
The 2 best forwards on the team , Kopitar and Carter, have only 25 goals between the 2 of them and of those, 12 are PP. So the 2 top forwards on the team have 13 ES goals thru almost 50 games. That's just not good enough

And 21 of the remaining 34 games are on the road, which doesn't bode well for a team that has played poorly on the road all year.
Next 3 are Caps, Panthers and Bolts, not and easy week. They need at least 4 of 6 to keep their head above water, esp if Calgary wins tonight and Colarado wins on Tues.

Put DD at forward a few shifts, instead of all 30 min. at D. Other teams tinker with it. SJ with Burns. Winnipeg with Buf.

We will not make the playoffs this year, simple as that.

Well, and I'm assuming the Sharks make the playoffs, all we have to do is end up with more points than either Vancouver or Calgary, so we still have a chance.

ETA: Kind of like that story about a bear chasing three guys in the woods, you don't have to be the fastest runner, just faster than one of them.

This team is going to hit the links in April if their top players don't show up most nights, especially away from home. I'm looking at them as guys who are letting this team down.

I can assure you that Gaborik will stay invisible if Sutter keeps him on a line with Stoll & Lewis lmao.

I hear ya. I understand what Sutter is trying to do by getting Gabby away from Kopi, but you simply cannot put him with Stoll and Lewis

thread title = win.

I was telling my son that the Kings will likely miss the playoffs as long as Nolan isn't scoring.

Two minutes later he puts one in. I felt like an idiot.

Really though I hope the postgame response is just "we need points. Nothing else matters." All of us know how well we're playing, etc.

I mean maybe pat Quick on the butt for returning to form a bit stronger game over game lately but other than that we just need results more than pretty lights.

Quick flipping out at the bench.

What happened with Quick on the bench? Who was it directed at? I had to leave before the game ended for a dinner reservation.

He skated toward the bench and a few players went over to him and he shook his head. He got about a two feet away from the door on the bench and started smashing his stick on it a couple times. The camera cut of then.

Vid!? i missed that part!

Yeah, Sutter seems very matter-of-fact about it, good effort, bad result, nothing to do but move on. It's not like we weren't generating chances, they just got sticks on the tips and we didn't get to the rebound pucks...and though I'd have to see a replay to confirm it, it's not because we WERENT in front of the net, ironically, it's because we WERE in front of the net and the puck would squeak out wide or to the high slot.

Every goal in the game was from out near the blueline. Boston just maybe got that one extra deflection. The Kings have always had to get to the front of the net to score, and they just didn't.

7-3-3 against the teams currently with the 7 worst records in the league. 1-2-3 against those 7 on the road. 17 of 26 points. Those 9 points are hanging over the team right now.

so with the steady climb by COL DAL AND MIN

we all know that Central will have 5 teams in the playoffs

Pacific will have 3 teams

with

SJ 49gp/58pts
VAN 47gp/57pts

(...)

LA 49gp/54pts

i'm not putting CGY there...nor do i care what WIN/COL/DAL/MIN are doing...the sooner we realize that it's top 3 or bust, the easier it'll be on all of us to accept that LA needs a crazy run soon or else it's the end of the road

Since VAN has 2 games in hand...and that LA & SJ have played the same amount of games (SJ having more wins) ... it's fair to say that right now LA is 5 points out of the playoffs ...

this is scary
