Jonathan Huberdeau

I know the Devils have on ton of wingers and a lot of other needs but with this pick that just cannot factor into the decision.

You have to take the BPA and worry about the logistics later. Can you imagine passing on a Superstar winger simply because you want a center? It is bad policy.

Imagine passing on Jagr for Keith Primeau only cause you wanted a big center? Im not saying that is what happened in the 1990 draft, i'm just using it as an example of a year.

Well, he did play more W than C this year...so I would say there's a good chance of that happening.

Jonathan Huberdeau: Q playoffs MVP with 16 goals - 14 assists - 30 pts in 19 games.

Memorial cup:
WHL: Kootenay Ice
OHL: Owen Sound Attack
QMJHL: St John Sea Dogs
Host: Majors

Huberdeau should easily display his skillset during this tournament. Sea Dogs should make us proud in the Q. If he does play well, it could change everything at the draft.

Can't wait to see him more at the Mem Cup. I've only seen him a couple of times and that has been enough to make me want him at #2 to my Avs.

I'm not saying this cause I want Larsson to fall but I can see your Avs taking him as well. He can play the wing or the center position and picturing a line with Duchene and Huberdeau has me dizzy just typing it

He's really a fantastic player that has alot of Claude Giroux in him. Simon Gagné (in his prime) with softer hands also comes to mind and if he's there at #4, I hope Lou picks him over Couturier if he has to pick between the two.

A Kovalchuk-Huberdeau duo would be ****ing insane as well :naughty:

I don't know where to put this so here goes.

Jonathan Huberdeau has the skills you want in a prospect cause he can do it all. I personnaly think he has the best set of hands in the draft and can stickhandle his way out of trouble without a problem. His vision is also excellent cause he likes to set up his linemates but he's been playing left wing with Zach Phillips as his center for the most part of the year.

I see alot of Claude Giroux in Huberdeau but if he's going to turn into a winger more so then a center, that's something Lou should think about since we already have Parise and Kovalchuk playing the left side.

Thanks ;)

It's interesting the way he and Phillips play together, because in a lot ways Huberdeau still plays the roll of the centerman. He tends to stear into the neutral zone once his team has possession and be the guy who takes the puck up ice in the neutral zones. He does move to the left side more often, but just like all players on the ice, there is so much criss crossing, you don't get the feel he is playing wing a lot of the time. Huberdeau also steps into the middle and takes the draws on all PP's that I have seen, to more purely play the center ice role. Or so it would seem.

In terms of why he plays wing, i think it has something to do with leaving him up high so he can make breaks up ice. Phillips has no speed to speak of, so he would be wasted in this role. He is better to trail Huberdeau into the zone, and wait for Huberdeau to create space for him to use his shot and moves in tight. The center also often back checks a little further and isn't the guy to consistenly keep the D honest on the backend. Against Gatineau, Huberdeau constantly lurked higher in the defensive zone when the puck was on the right side, and his mates often fired long bombs for him when they got the puck. Huberdeau knew to go, and he did. Gatineau is a pretty good defensive team and probably the best coached team in the Q, so they contained this move to an extent, but you could see even with the Olympiques well prepared, he was ever dangerous out there. He had a few breakaways in the game I saw, although that was more of a product of him stripping defenders and doing some nifty give'n goes.

His hands are tremendous and he takes a back seat to know one in this regard. His straight away speed is very good, but not elite yet. But the key about his skating is his fluidity of moving forward, laterally and backwards with the puck. He does some crazy moves seamlessly from forward to backward, kind of the way Corey Perry does if you've watched him enough. Despite the frame, he still has a lot of filling out to do and likely needs another year in the Q.

Colour me sold. If the Sens land him at 6, I'll be buying a few rounds, where ever the hell I am.

Could Huberdeau be a surprise #1?

Let's say the Sea Dogs win the Mem Cup and Huberdeau gets the MVP...would he have a shot at winning the hearts of the Oilers brass, or do you think they're set on RNH?

Just curious as to why...there doesn't seem to be many kinks in the armour there. Decent size, dynamic offense, defense, playoff production, sensational hair.

First, I'm not even sold that RNH is Stu McGregor's guy at #1. And secondly, anything is possible. Jonathan Huberdeau could go as high as 1st overall and make a huge surprise. But, I could see him going to Colorado at 2 also. This kid has tremendous upside and plays so good. IMO, he's done more than Landeskog in the CHL and has proven that he can step up his game when he's needed to. Anyways, Go Sea Dogs!

No. Even the Oilers wouldn't screw up that bad.

The only way he'd have a chance of going #1 overall is if the Panthers traded up.

It would definitely be a surprise, but I can see it potentially happening. Though many Edmonton fans seem set on the fact that they want RNH, I can see as many as 5 different prospects going 1st in a draft like this one.

He stepped up late and made that nice saucer pass and scored the game winner but the rest of the game I wasnt too impressed. Obviously he showed his skills on those two plays but he was very quiet the rest of the game and I was more impressed with guys like Galiev, Jurco, Gelinas, Bealeui and even Phillips. Now thats not to say those guys will be better then him but I wasnt too impressed thru the first 3 periods. His skillset reminds me so much of Benoit Pouliout (sp). Theres 5-6 guys in the draft that I certainly like better then him.

Didn't the Oilers head scout say something about RNH being a #1 center one day while also saying Huberdeau is a 2nd, perhaps 1st line winger in the future?

All signs point to them picking RNH, and even if they don't it seems a lot more likely they take Larsson with the 1st overall pick.
