Jonathan Huberdeau

You know, I could see that, I don't know about that, but I could see that, I still don't feel or see the Oilers taking RNH, still see Larsson, who knows, I did a mock draft of my own I might post on this thread.

Whos this Gelinas guy?

He was a force all night. Has a Pronger - esque feel to his game.

I have this feeling this kid will be the best player to come out of this draft.

Skill, clutch, grit, and them more skills on top of that.

Watching Nugen-Hopkins completely get shutdown by Medicine Hat in round 1 and watching Huberdeau do what he is doing against the best of the best the CHL has to offer is like night and day for me.

You can all harp about how the sea dogs are this amazing team this and that. Fact of the matter is, this is one amazing player/prospect.

I don't see how RNH or Landeskog are better than he is in terms of performance and what they can do.

100% agree.

Medicine Hat didn't have to cover anyone else, it was "stop RNH and you stop everyone".

With the Sea Dawgs, you have to cover like 2-3 lines all equally, so Huberdeau definitely gets more space and opportunities. Hard to fault RNH for his team being ****.

Sounds Seguin/Hall-ish.

Just curious as to why...there doesn't seem to be many kinks in the armour there. Decent size, dynamic offense, defense, playoff production, sensational hair.

Because oiler fans in western canada want to draft a player with the same low goals from point toal and points from PP as Daigle, Bonsignore, Kelly, Stefan, Ninimaki. Sure makes a person confident in picking RNH with a star studded list of players with same production base.

All you none westerners. Remember the RNH opologists are like the Girl who dates the bad boy. Mom he will change! He can do it. Really! Really!
RNH may turn out but when you take the #1 pick you do not want to pick a player that has 70% of like players being a bust. Not good risk Management. Hubredeau NHLE says he should be top 3.

I repeat, I watch alot of the Sea Dogs' games. I don't need any threads or scouting reports to back up what I think.

From what it sounded like, if you actually went to the thread, everyone else does too. But of course you're too superior.

Give me a freakin break. Elite top players at least WILL their teams to a win or 2 against the odds. And you are making it seem like Medicine Hat was this amazing team. They got swept in 4 the next series.

More and more excuses.......I wonder what people will say if RNH turns to another flop?

If RNH when to Colorado/Ottawa instead of Edmonton etc etc he would be as good or better than Huberdeau etc etc

Easy champ...that would be repeating something you never said in this thread. There's a difference between "when I watch" and "I watch alot".

Regardless, it's potentially relevant info for people who'd like a few other opinions.

But, I could see him going to Colorado at 2 also.

Nope, Avs will take whoever Oilers don't so either RNH or Larsson. I prefer the forward with the 2nd pick though so I hope they do take Huberdeau or Landeskog instead of Larsson and getting RNH would be amazing but don't see them getting Huberdeau ahead of RNH if Oilers take Larsson.

Oilers management probably doesn't wanna irk the fan base and probably the owners by not taking RNH though even if they're the one team that can use the dman more.

Yeah I watched RNH a bit early and he produced a lot but I wasn't really impressed. I don't know who I want but I know that if that was RNH at his best than there must be other prospects in the running.

I also get the feeling that the media is overselling RNH. I know there are some quotes from Stu MacGregor but didn't I hear somewhere he said he was misquoted regarding the Gretzky comparison?

Are you really suggesting that playing on a significantly better team is simply an excuse? They have 8 guys ranked in the top 125 IIRC, a solid goalie, and a few good older players in leadership roles.

In games like tonight, a great team is the difference between a win and a loss. I'm not sure if you even watched the game, but Huberdeau was pretty invisible for large portions of the game. However, the team stays in the game and he gets a great feed and roofs the game winner and he is the hero of the game.

IMO, Jurco and Galiev were both better than Huberdeau tonight, and I thought Kirkpatrick was better than him in Game 1.

It is very similar to the Hall/Seguin debate, and while I was a Hall backer the entire last year, the fact Seguin had little to work with was something I really considered.

No. I could see him go as high as 2 but unlikely. If he wins Memorial Cup MVP, 3 is a possibility.

Not true. Myself being a Habs fan, I know GMs and scouting management always pick the player they feel will complete their team the best. It's not because the fan base in Edmonton wants RNH that it assures the Oilers to take him 1st overall. There's so much process into scouting that fans don't matter. Look at the number of years Montreal has passed up on their own Q players for NCAA prospects. Pacioretty and McDonagh instead of Perron, David Fischer instead of Giroux, etc. And also, AFAIK, RNH and Larsson haven't done anything to make them 100% 1-2 overall in the draft. In this year's draft, everything is possible. Couturier could be the secret card that the Oilers has been playing all along since they had the 1st overall secured. Landeskog could still be the winger they want with his leadership skills and grit. Huberdeau's strong performance all year long in the Q and the Memorial Cup could make him the 1st overall pick to complement Taylor Hall. For me, RNH is nothing more than a great dangler. He's flashy and has great vision and the ability to take puck away from others, but he's not an elite centerman. Larsson is a great defenseman with poise at such a young age, but I have read today that he has not yet decided to come over NA next year. NHL teams will know more when they will interview him. All in all, teams should not draft players just to please the fan base and the owner, since I'm pretty sure Mr Katz knows that his GM and scouting management know much more than him.

This "Hopkins had no one to work with" talk is completely bogus. Red Deer was ranked in the top ten CHL teams in the country consistently all year. Petrovic, Dumba, Froese and Keumper are all very good players in their own right. Hopkins rolled snake eyes against the Tigers. Huberdeau is still a big factor when the chips are down.

I would rather have Toews over Thornton or Sedin any day of the week.

Hopkins wasnt even the #1C in Red Deer and barely took a draw in game four vs the Oil Kings.

Huberdeau is the better all round player.

RNH didn't get shut down in the 1st round.. He dominated the Oil Kings in round 1.

As for being shut down in the 2nd round... so was Stamkos. I think he had like 1 goal and was -5 in the 2nd round of the OHL playoffs.

The difference is St Johns would still be an elite team without Huberdeau, whereas Red Deer are NOTHING without RNH.
