I don't know about first overall or even 2nd overall. I believe that RNH and Landeskog will go 1 and 2. But, I am starting to think that Florida would be nuts to pass on Huberdeau. I think they need some offensive talent in that organization and with the way Huberdeau tore up the regular season and now the playoffs in the Q, I am thinking he might be the 2nd most talented offensive player in the draft after RNH.

I said the exact same thing yesterday.

Makes me believe the Avs might want him though, and that makes me nervous. I feel like Larsson and Landy are much safer picks, that's why.

Yup, I've said this before, it is indeed possible. This draft's top tier is in a state of flux and if Huberdeau can continue his fine play against the better teams in the Q and make it to the memorial cup, he'll get a unique chance to display his talents to the entire scouting community. It represents a very unique opportunity, because mosts scouts are regional and don't an get a shot to evaluate other players. If Saint John is in the Memorial Cup, every lottery team will have their chief scouts and decision makers there, and if he can put on a show there, there is definitely a chance he could vault ahead of everyone else, at least in one team's opinion, and that's all it takes.

Well said. This basically outlines a blueprint of how Jonathon Huberdeau becomes the first overall pick. Not rocket science but should sum up any question of him going 1st overall. It's a big if for a 17 year old, but I'll be watching.

Let's say this all happens, is he ranked #1 heading into the draft? Should be an interesting memorial cup as I assume Saint John wins the Q.

any chance he could go in the top 2 or even challenge for the number 1?

If his team makes the memorial cup and he has a good run there I think the top 3 can become a top 4

Looking at last year's draft I think both Ryan Johansen and Nino Niederreiter increased there stock with strong playoff performances

I still don't think Larsson gets by Colorado at 2.

I am guessing Colorado will go for a winger which might create an opening for Huberdeau since it sounds like he plays some wing in the QMJHL(so it not a case of drafting another center), that being said I still think they take Landeskog

I think Larsson could fall to 4. Some teams love him, others just "like" him. If the Oil, Avalanche and Florida scouts love another forward, they would pass on him. I doubt he falls to the Devils, but it is conceivable. Basically any combination you can think of in the top 5 with the top guys shuffling around is possible at this point.

How do you know that? I would assume Lou likes to keep his (teams) thoughts to themself

I don't know that for sure, that's why I said supposedly. A poster whose opinions and reports I trust said it. I agree that Lou never tells anybody anything, but scouts do talk.

Just wild speculation on my part, but I say whether Larsson is at 4 or not, NJ might take a defenseman

What happens when the Sea Dogs run into a team as deep, that can beat them.

Missasauga will not bend over and get dominated by St John.

What if Huberdeau has 1 assist and is -4 in the Memorial Cup, does that not affect his ranking.

Johansen and Niederreiter both never made it out of the 2nd round last year, much like Tyler Seguin.

I doubt dropping out early in the playoffs or going all the way affects their rankings much at all.

Scouts are scouting players, not teams, and if you have had enough views to surmise what you think said player will develop into....a few extra playoff games is not going to boost you.

I dont see what more RNH would have to do, to lock up the 1st forward drafted position.

Like I said yesterday on another thread, Huberdeau could go 1st overall. Anything can happen and afterwards, it might changes everything. If he was to 1st overall, what a cinderella story that would be lol. Thankfully his team won yesterday against the Tigres. They were trailing 0-2 after 1 period and the Tigres, lead by Danault, tried everything to stay alive in the series and gave very strong opposition against the Sea Dogs. I think when this is all over, Danault could be a 1st rounder for sure.

And please, it's Jonathan Huberdeau.

Absolutely. The reality is Saint John have now defeated two average teams from the Q, where Huberdeau has looked fantastic. But the shine could come off his play in either of the next two rounds in the playoffs, let alone in the Memorial Cup. Saint John isn't even a sure thing to make it to the Memorial Cup (although they are the favorite).

No one is saying "this is what is going to happen". We are just saying, it is conceivable that it could. I personally don't think Huberdeau will go #1, but at the same time I wouldn't be shocked if he did.

Victoriaville is not an average team. They are considered one of the top teams in the Q and they did give a hard time to the Sea Dogs. But I think they will get the strongest opposition from either Quebec or Drummondville. For the memorial cup, I'd be eager to see them playing against Mississauga. BTW, can anybody tell me what happens if Mississauga were to win the OHL Cup..who's the other of the OHL that is going to the Mem Cup?

Whoever they beat in the finals IIRC This happened with Moncton + Quebec previously I think.

Yup. Moncton was the host and won the Q title, so the team they beat in the finals (Quebec) got the "host" spot.......... and then won the Mem Cup :shakehead (but i dont like to think about that)

i believe you are fooling yourself if you think that the playoff put together by both johansen and niederreiter did not increase their draft position.

when you state that a few extra games isn't going to boost a player, i think back to shane doan's memorial cup performance vaulting him to 7th overall.

so, it can and has happened.

if the oilers feel they could take him at 3 i wonder if they would trade down and solidify another top 10 pick in the process... Huberdeau + Hamilton/Siemens > RNH + Morrow/Musil is what im thinking
