Jonathan Huberdeau

Is Huberdeau the next Kyle Turris?

I dunno I just don't think he will be a big time star in the NHL. Tons of late season hype pushed his value over the top and he became the "fashionable" high pick. His pick just screams Kyle Turris.

Anyone else?

I have a 6th overall pick in a fantasy draft coming up and I just have a feeling that Huberdeau will fall to me there. Would it warrant picking Strome or Couturier over him. I think so too. Even Ziban.

I wouldn't bet on any of Florida's prospects until the organization has shown they can develop them properly. I can't remember the last time Florida took a high-profile player and having it work out for them.

Until Tallon came in there was no system in place to develop prospects so your cynicism is warranted.

Things do seem to be different now, FWIW.

If i was a Florida fan i would feel pretty safe right now. Your GM is the same guy who built the Stanley cup champions....

How does it make sense to compare a guy that was drafted 3rd overall less than 48 hours ago to a player that is bordering on being a bust?

Kyle Turris is not gonna bust, he got everything to succeed in this league, everything except for size. But size is a natural development as players get older and mature.

I think Turris gonna break out next season and start his promising NHL career after what he done against the Red Wings during the playoff.

RNH is more Turris than Huberdeau is.

If Phoenix let him spend more than one year in college hockey and didnt rush him, nobody would be saying Turris is bordering on being a bust.

The team rushed him.

He is what, 22? Alot of NHL stars werent in the league at 22.

Time will tell if either guy "busts", but I dont think the two guys are really comparable...different styles all together.

I'm not saying Turris didn't have it in him to become something more(and he still could). It just when someone says "the next Turris" they're basically saying "a bust"...whether it's fair or not.

Have you watched the Memorial Cup tournament ?

Huberdeau has triple, if not quadruple his offensive output from 2010 to 2011 season. and even if he was the youngest player of his team, lead them to the Q Championship as well as the Memorial Cup.

Has Turris done anything close to that ?

Yeah he has, "Turris led the Express to the BCHL championship, advancing to the 2006 Royal Bank Cup, Canada's national Junior A championship. He would score a hat trick in the final game against the Yorkton Terriers of the SJHL and led the tournament in scoring as the Express won the championship."

Completely different players playing in completely different leagues. Turris' achievements in his draft year aren't even close to what Huberdeau did.

Thats stupid, he looked very dangerous late in the season last year....he is not Hugh Jessiman here. Call him a bust when he isnt in the NHL.

Yeah he has....played in the NHL!

Won world junior GOLD, being a huge contributor.

Point a game in college hockey at 165 lbs against guys 3-5 years older than him.

Give him time.

He was one of if not the most dangerous Coyote in the playoffs last season...NHL playoffs, it'll be along time before Huby sees that as a Panther.

Hmm, I think the WJC gold - during which he was one of it not the leading scorer for Canada might be even bigger. He was prominent in the Super Series too.

WRONG.

Turris was drafted after dominating the BCHL. Huberdeau dominated the QMJHL and Memorial Cup. That is a completely different world.

Comparing Huberdeau to Turris is a mistake. Turris was overrated because he came from a weak league compared to ehere Huberdeau is from.

I love this kid. High octane skills mixed with awesome offensive instincts mixed with aggressive determination. He also comes across as really charismatic despite the language barrier.

Florida got a hell of a prospect IMO. FWIW if he slipped past them the Sens had a deal in place with NJ to move up to 4 to take him (provided Larsson was off the board).

Yeah right, he did not just come from a weak league, he dominated that league. Turris got picked where he was picked based on potential and skills that he was showing during his draft year.

And yeah comparing Hub to Turris is indeed a misstake as I think Turris gonna end up being a better player when its all said and done.

Of the 3 CHL leagues I've always felt the QMJHL the easiest to score and have generally viewed players with high offensive totals with a grain of salt. Likewise somewhat the OHL.

We've seen players in junior go from scoring average one season to offensively breaking out the next.

This anonymous player did this in his final three years in the OHL.
Final year 65gp 51g 67a 118pts
2nd year 66gp 63g 88a 151pts
1st year 55gp 18g 25a 43pts

And now he is in his late 20s with 9 NHL games under his belt and has been a part of 4 NHL teams. Granted he was no 1st round pick but I don't consider tripling point output in junior to be the mark of a star player in the NHL regardless. Especially for a player coming out of no where midway through the season to all of a sudden be heralded as the 3rd best pick.

You need to know that Corey Locke got drafted as an overager after his 151 pt season in the OHL. He got passed on by every team in his original draft year in which he only scored 43 points.

Huberdeau scored 105 pts in his draft year.

105 >>> 43
