I just explained that another poster claimed that he was curious about what MSL would do with Drouin. My contention is that he won't do squat with him, he is who he is. That was the point of bringing up the Tweet. We've seen Drouin fail at center already. Four seasons later, the guy has no self awareness and still claims he can play center. He can't be helped.

I think his point was that he’d do it if they asked. It’s not like he demanded it or said he’d be better at Center.

Depends how the question was formulated. We don't know that he didn't ask for it or that he didn't think he'd be better than his first year as a Hab, at it. He did end up playing there on October 31st. Who knows how he presented it to his then buddy Ducharme but any other coach would have been wary of Drouin's failure at center with more than enough of an NHL sample size.

Something like "I'll play wherever the team needs me to" "I'll do whatever helps the team win" would have been more appropriate.

For sure but it’s pretty inconclusive at this point. I haven’t seen a direct quote so it is what it is.

That's what Damphousse was advocating recently.
I just don't see teams exactly lining up to inquire about his services. Best bet is to buy him out and give him another chance perhaps with another NHL team or hold on to him until next year's TDL. Possible return may be a late round pick, a fringe NHLer or underperforming prospect. He can put up 50 points and some contenders might need a depth rental next year for their run. Otherwise, he's another Alexandre Daigle, so much potential but lack of motivation. BargainBin was played by Yzerman quite nicely on this one.

I am not a fan, but maybe MSL is just what the dr ordered. I would wait and see unless I got a really good offer which won't happen.

My God. This post is filled with so much ill-will. You're basing it all on a negative that can't be proven.

You lost it before you even began. I told you already, go shower your negativity on someone else. That's all you do and your act is tiring. Sheesh.

Absolutely no way Drouin is traded or bought out this season, he has the attributes the new management are looking for (except maybe hockey IQ), he's going to be given the rest of the season to show what he's got.

I agree - If there ever was a sell low moment on Drouin, this is it.

Not happening IMO

I think negativity is saying 'Well, we don't know he didn't say this * negative thing! * ' so he shouldn't have answered the way he did! It's so underhanded. You're projecting bad intentions strictly because you don't like the player.

Like, don't get me wrong, Drouin sucks as a player, but criticizing him for something that can't be proven and has no actual legitimate assumption shouldn't be done. There's a reason multiple posters took issue.

Anyone who says buyout, has no idea what they are talking about. He has 1 year left at 5.5M, and we won’t even be a cap team next year or don’t need to be. Just let him play, hopefully play well under MSL, retain 50% at deadline and hopefully you can pick up a pick or something
Buyout would just be so stupid and useless

The Bergevin Era still lingers, like a fart in an elevator...

Still Bergevin’s team, no question. Hoping they can find a taker for Mr. Perimeter but if they do, it’s only going to be at next season’s trade deadline.

Its actually less than useless, it actively harms their cap flexibility in 2023-2024, when management might actually be trying to push more towards the playoffs.

If Byram comes back for these playoffs as is starting to leak, might Girard, who is nightly struggling and has no fit in Col, be dealt for Drouin?

He seems fine, when he has time and space............he is a 100ft player.....
He is the most lazy back checking guy you are ever gonna watch.....and in most cases, he just leaves the ice and lets his replacement get back to the play late.
This year, was supposed to be different..........he got his self care, and he was ready to go.................and, here we are.
I was hopeful we would finally see THE player and his talent....shine.
Nope............lazy and uninspired.....does he care, maybe, it doesn't show on the ice....only what he says off the ice.
Trade him for subway coupons boys.....or buy him out this summer...
250 games or so and 75 goals. The previous GM gave him a 6 year $33M contract.

But he's a Quebecer!

Anthony Duclair: 250 games or so and 109 goals. Points similar to Drouin. BEGGED for a job here three times and the previous GM offered him an AHL contract once and passed twice.

Also a Quebecer by the way, just not a real enough one for some people, being from Pointe-Claire among other things.

MB had no vision or clue how to build a roster. Drouin as a key guy has been a monumental clusterfuk.

You know Drouin next season is going to have a fantastic season, like a point a game so we will need to offer him 10x 8 years because....well this is Montreal.

And then after signing the massive contract he will revert too...well you know

Exactly. Same thing with buying out Byron or paying draft picks to get “rid” of him. Just ride out the last year and either trade at deadline or let walk

You have more chance at getting struck by lightning three times in three minutes than you do of Drouon ever going PPG in the NHL
