This is an underrated point. There really is no excuse for our PP to be this bad with guys like Drouin and Weber, let alone Domi, Gallagher, Tatar, Petry etc... Muller really should have been fired, a good PP shouldn't be this hard- yet here we are, and not only is it abysmal, but we give up more chances against while on it most nights.
Never seen a great powerplay without a great number one center. The Habs dont have one. They "make due" with what they have down the middle. Domi did admirable job for a guy switched from the wing.

Preds were right at the bottom with the Canadiens powerplay. (Josie, Subban, Ellis, Forsberg, Johanson Arevedson,) No bona fide number once center in the middle of those all stars.

Last time the Habs had a great powerplay. Koivu was the center. Muller was coach in charge of it.

Giving a guy 33 million dollars after he put up a whopping 29 NHL goals is hardly what I would call a hometown discount and even a worse decision when you consider the circumstances that brought him here. If we made a trade with the Oilers and shipped Drouin there in a package that had Darnell Nurse and Jesse Puljujarvi coming back to us would you think it wise to give JP a 5 year right away based on his history? I don't, he needs to prove himself first or is that too much to ask?
This is interesting, Mr. Drouin for Mr. Puljujarvi, would more pieces have to be added either way? thoughts?

He’s boots but Im sure he will get 50 points, worth the contract I guess. I hate the player but wouldn’t trade him for scraps either rather keep a 50 point winger with no compete than trade him for a lesser player/asset. If something interesting is on the table that’s a different story but I doubt that’s the case.

The real question is will CJ put him in the top 6 or in the doghouse. If he gets into the doghouse his value will just keep going down

I suggested Drouin for Puuljaarvi, Samoroukov, Gagner (cap dump), a 2nd and 3rd. Oilers fans seemed ok with it when I proposed it. Get 2 guys with lots of potential and some value out of the picks. Caleb Jones could be nice as an add in too .

Drouin will have to prove his worth in the later stages of the season when habs are in dog fight for a playoff spot. His 50 points before Xmas will be quickly forgotten if he pulls same sh!t he did last season.

Ok so? You want to give him away? Dude dosent have to “prove his worth” everybody knows who this guy is. I’m not expecting as embarassing of a slump as last year but the dude is what he is we have to accept it or sell high if he has a better season than last year

Really hope he gets off to a good start so the media can leave him alone for a bit.

Habs were 1st in the league in 2007-2008 with Plekanec centering the 1st wave with Kovalev, Kostitsyn, Streit and Markov. I guess you can do OK without a great #1 C, but it requires elite players at pretty much every other positions.

Give him maximum of icetime. Doesn't matter if he cost the team a few games. Drouin needs to become a star for us to win anything in the foreseeable future.

No one cares

It would be interesting but limiting yourself to one trading partner is not the way that the Oilers or habs would like to do things. Both players have not done much to help their trade values, have they? I used Pool party as an example in a reply to another poster to show the error in giving a big contract to a player with issues traded from his draft team. It will be tough to trade Drouin to any team with his history and his contract, if somehow, he is able to play lights out for the first 20-30 games then we have more teams interested in him. It's up to Drouin, I doubt that many teams are interested right now.

Or at least an elite pp qb like Markov. Kovy was also elite on the pp. Plek, AK, and Streit were also very good in their roles.

I'm not a fan of Drouin AT ALL but Jesus Christ man, the hate on him is exaggerated. It's literally non-stop.

And we all know once he's gone, they'll need a new whipping boy and it's probably going to be Kotkaniemi. Every season is the same and it's starting to get f***ing annoying.

Drouin is by far my favourite player to watch. You can teach his kind of speed and I mean both feet and hands. I tend to fall asleep watching the slower players like Danault, Gallagher and especially Tatar.

The rest of us with any semblance of hockey IQ hate watching Drouin play and are aware that Danault is one of the best skaters on the team.

All depends on the return. I think we could still get a decent player/package for him. He's still a top 6 guy, we're not talking about Scott Gomez here.
Old Scott Gomez? No
Young Scott Gomez? The gap has closed.

drouin is a player who 1) was the worst center in the league two years ago and then went drier than a desert at the end of last year DESPITE getting 1PP time.

He's top6 player if you are looking for someone to go along for the ride and never stir the drink.

You'd maybe bump Lehk but CJ clearly likes him in a top 6 role...
still. I don't mind that but I don't like Drouin as the replacement. We f'd up real bad not signing Radulov.
We offered mercenary hockey player the same deal he signed for in Dallas.

If you have remorse for why he ain't here, maybe you should ask him why.
Then ask him again 5 minutes later.

The story seems extremely fungible.
