Whole situation is devastating. He was an all time fav Flame that gave us tons os good memories. Two young kids.. a wife and could only imagine what his parents are going through.
Sad sad day for the hockey world.
Who died last year?Guy and Jane were fixtures at Flames games and my heart really breaks for them.
Also, I really hate that the Columbus Blue Jackets have to go through the loss of a teammate a second time
September 7 will be three years since I got sideswiped on the road by a driver who didn’t stop, less than a mile from my house. I walked away from it with a badly sprained shoulder, bruises, and a scar of twelve links of chain on the back of my right leg (I still have it) where the bike landed on top of me. But I was lucky. I walked away.I've been sideswiped while on a bike but walked away with a few scratches. This spring though, I almost got completely nailed head-on at an intersection in Jersey City when a van ran a red light.
It's easy to destroy the man since there is alcohol involved, would people feel the same if he was using his phone instead of having a drink?
I'm sorry that you had to go through that. I think the people who go off the deep end with the harshest punishment possible rhetoric are processing things in their own way, but that's why the criminal punishment system shouldn't be dictated by emotion.Unspeakable tragedy, I’m heartbroken for his friends, family, and the broader hockey community.
But maybe cool it with some of these lynch mob hot takes calling for the death penalty, life in solitary, etc… It’s really not a good look.
And for the record, I’m speaking as someone whose youngest brother was killed at 21 by a drunk hit-and-run driver while out walking with friends.

In 2021 Matiss Kivlenieks died at a 4th of July partyWho died last year?
I ride over 1k every year on my bike, my favorite hobby. But unlike most byclist, 95% of those miles are on designated bike paths. Whenever I do travel on the road, I say a prayer. And the number one thing I fear is being hit by a cell phone using distracted driver. My path crosses a main road and I sit at the light waiting to cross, I would say nearly half the cars that go pass, the driver is using their phone. I have the right to ride my bike on any road I choose. My abundance of common sense usually prevents me from doing so.
I'm just saying Alcohol is an easy scapegoat to demonize. A bad driver will kill you whether they had beers, using a phone or from any other distraction.
I don't suppose there's a way to say this that doesn't make it seem like I'm minimizing the intoxicated aspect on the driver, but the impatience and poor judgement is almost the "worse" part of the crime. Being impaired would have slowed his potential reaction time but it's the aggressive driving that caused the sitution.

In my experience, it's people in the largest vehicles* who do the dumbest things out of impatience. I guess maybe they feel more protected, but they don't give consideration to what happens to the other people on the road when their impatience leads to a misjudgment or mistake. If you do things like this on the road, you're an absolute simpleton piece of shit.
