So we are going to have two absolute c*nts behind the bench. I can't believe I used to feel sorry for Ghost and Jake being dumped to Arizona and Ohio.

"At one point late in the season, according to a source, Kane nearly came to blows with assistant coach Rocky Thompson in a meeting after arguing where he was supposed to be positioned on the power play. Several sources indicated there was a general frustration among the team that Kane was permitted to get away with whatever he wanted, with no repercussions." [The Athletic]

Thompson is a former Alberta Golden Gloves Champion who terrorized the Western Hockey League before embarking on a professional career, which included 25 games in the NHL and over 2,000 PIMs in his professional career.

Thompson began his coaching career as an assistant with the WHL’s Edmonton Oil Kings for three seasons. He would then join Dallas Eakins’ staff with the AHL’s Oklahoma City Barons and, eventually, the Edmonton Oilers. Thompson’s first head coaching opportunity would come with the Windsor Spitfires, where he led them to a Memorial Cup championship in 2017.

Currently in his third season with the Wolves and coming off an AHL Finals appearance, Thompson has been able to reinvent himself as a player’s coach that is receiving glowing endorsements from past and current players. He now looks to be apart of the next wave of coaches who are poised to bring a modern approach to coaching in the NHL.

Details on how he transitioned from goon to coach.

I'm sorta confused.

We're told by the team, fanbase, and media that Tortorella and his assistants are going to address the locker room issues, stabilize things, and make sure everyone is held accountable and playing the "right way".

So what happened to last offseason's amazing locker room shake up where we added so many great character/effort guys and solved the issue by getting rid of "problems" like Jake and Ghost? At the start of the 2021-2022 season all we heard was how much better the team looked and how they were finally competing and standing up for each other.

I'm starting to wonder if that problem was actually solved, guys. It might not have been the real reason the team sucked after all.

It's almost like Chuck was flopping around looking for scapegoats to divert attention away from his eternal inability to manage a team.

I'm excited to see what fanbase/media/team excuses pop up if/when the team looks like shit instead of contending like they're supposed to.

It can't be Torts fault, since he's basically a flawless coach, motivator, developer of talent, and so on.
It can't be Fletchers fault, since he's only made one mistake so far and that mistake really doesn't even matter.
It can't be the players fault, since Fletcher assembled this team and it's full of bottom line/pair guys, who are all interchangeable and don't matter. Plus, no bad players will stick on the roster with Torts in charge.

They don't expect this team to contend, and I doubt Torts came here with that delusion.

It's not like CBJ was in great shape when he took over, lost their first 7 games in 2015-16.
They were 34-33-8 under Torts, then put up 108 points the following season.
He had some scrubs on that team, Bourque (34), Campbell (32), Clarkson (31), Tyutin (32), Boll (29). Gone the next season.
Gave a bunch of kids a chance to play, some won jobs, some came up short, Prout (25), Goloubef (26), Rychel (21).
Players like BJorkstrand (20) & Anderson (21) got cameos, preparing them for next season.

If Fletcher doesn't expect the team to contend then everything he's done in terms of what little strategy is evident is wrong. Is that good management?

If you mean facing reality and not trading JVR with a 1st rd pick to sign JG to a 7 year deal when the team isn't a legitimate contender?

Is that the only thing that's happened?

I think it's not. I think he's done many other things. Have you accounted for those things?

I've listed the moves I thought were mistakes. Risto, Lindblom, Deslauriers.
Others were educated gambles.
Ellis blew up, but at the time there was no reason to think he would have this injury.
TDA could blow up, but it's only a 2 year deal, that's a gamble worth taking if you're reloading/rebuilding.

NAK, meh, benched and then cut by Colorado.
Friedman, meh.
Patrick, damaged goods.
Myers, head case, Nashville couldn't salvage him.
Kalynuk,no QO.

So in terms of rebuilding, no, we haven't hemorrhaged assets other than 2nd rd picks.
G, Ghost and Voracek are not part of the future, neither are Atkinson and Hayes and JVR for that matter.

Weird, you've listed a bunch of win-now moves.

I thought Fletcher doesn't believe the team is contending?

Not offering a QO isn't essentially the same as being waived?

And he was benched in the playoffs.
The Avalanche said they wanted him back but they couldn’t swing it with the salary cap. Or are we going to do the thing where we discount what someone says because it fits a narrative again? He was also banged up during periods of the playoffs that lead to him not playing.

While on the subject of doing something again, I guess we’re in the “this year will be different” phase of defending the organization that we’ve seen for the last however many years from you despite having absolutely no reason based in reality to believe it.

Ellis was a year ago. Things have changed.

TDA is 26, that's not exactly "win now."

It is win-now. He's not worth those picks. Chuck thinks he's buying a contender. He thinks the key is keeping prospects from playing. He pegged that as the team's problem.

Fletcher was trying to win-now a year ago and yes still trying now. He's throwing away the future to try to buy the present, but he's too shitty to have a prayer of doing it.

They could swing 35 year Cogliano.

This year will definitely be different. Better or worse, that remains to be seen.
