John Tortorella Named (Part Time) Head Coach Discussion

I was told almost daily, sometimes more than once daily (for months straight) that Tortorella doesn't play favorites.

And yet he's already clearly developing favorites. And they aren't the young and offensively skilled players we were told they'd be.
You just need to give him 700 more games before you can develop an opinion on him as a head coach.

7 games in to Tortorella's reign and the third line is Deslauriers-Sedlak-MacEwen.

There is no bottom.

He'S cHaNgEd

The hilarious thing is, he thinks he is doing this motivate these "entitled" young players to play better and earn their ice time, when in fact he is just crushing their confidence and not giving them a fighting chance to play up to whatever his stupid ass standards are.

Farabee 20:07, leads all forwards
TK 19:27
Cates 18:16
Frost 13:57
Allison 13:27
Tippett 11:22 (2g)
Laczynski 10:03

Sedlak 11:51
Deslauriers 9:45

Sedlak has the highest xGF%, Deslauriers 3rd highest, we're not talking Thompson here.

Zamula is being sheltered, but it's not like Seeler is playing badly.

By the way:
Frost CF 38.62%, xGF 33.44%, 7g 2-1 3
MacEwen CF 36.22%, xGF 37.36%, 5g 2-1 3

Would it surprise you to hear the responses to that tweet are idiot Flyers fans loving his response?

People are so proud of their ignorance and I guarantee you none of these clowns even know what analytics are or what they track.

Don't think you read it very carefully, he knows they're a ways away from playing consistent hockey (and are talent deficient without Couts and Atkinson). He also knows the PP production isn't sustainable (cross fingers) and Hart won't maintain a .950 S% (even though he can play better, puck luck will even out, shooters have missed some open nets for him).

Right now he just wants them playing hard and winning a few games (keeps spirits up). That's all they can do, it takes some time to get everyone on the same page, especially when you have a revolving door due to injuries.

The mantra around here seems to be: "I want them to rebuild, but I want them to look good doing so." Say What?

You want him to crap all over his players for playing hard, not rolling over and hanging in games and winning some they shouldn't?

I’d like to know how the press and some of you guys would have dealt with Fred Shero’s cryptic responses to questions. He’d have driven some people crazy.

The cognitive dissonance around here is amusing: "they really suck, they have no talent," "Torts is a failure because he can't make a no talent team look good."

The reality is they're playing well against their peers (i.e. bottom ten teams), just not getting the puck luck they got to start the season, but they're probably going to struggle against top ten teams because the talent gap is so wide.

I mean you can't lose 3 forwards who are legitimate top 2 lines scorers and not have a huge falloff.

Torts knows he's not going to make the playoffs, that 75 points or so would be quite an accomplishment for this team.
That will land a top 10 pick, top 5 requires 65 points or less, and you'd probably have to shoot Hart to get that bad.

This season is all about developing "keepers."

He makes a no talent team look worse. There's no cognitive dissonance going on here. It's just an intentional misrepresentation of what people state about the team in order to be able to defend the franchise.

Tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme.
