I'm not sure they're going to pay for it. But what is curious is the team was rebuilt twice in the last shortened season to better fit the mold and image of the coach. And now he's gone.

This has to be more than just a hockey decision.

Thinking the same thing. I'd imagine Torts is rubbing the powers that be the wrong way.

Still no commitment to any sort of plan.

Thinking Ruff will be the next coach since its the lazy choice.

Suirprised but not shocked. Lundqvist's comments were certainly targeted. I do find it amazing that you would take out a coach a half season after they were the number one team in the east.

I congratulate John on giving the team a blue collar work ethic and personality. Perhaps he got too far out of balance but Torts' did good work here. He will be back coaching very soon.

And for the future, my guess is that Jeff Gorton is driving the bus on a replacement, not Sather. This is becoming his team and I do not believe he will be looking at the same old news (Ruff, Vignault etc.) as a coach. My choice is former Ranger Dallas Eakins, currently coach of the Toronto Marlies of the AHL and widely considered to be the best coach in the AHL

He intrigues me as well as a top candidate.

I've been saying it for months - Henke is the #2 guy in this organization after Sather. His pull goes that deep. This year was the last straw, if it was up to him it would have been done last offseason.

That's a guess?? New coach will almost dictate that changes will be made.

And all this Lindy Ruff talk makes me wonder how all of you pay so much attention to hockey yet not know any names besides the obvious. At this point I'm glad Mike Keenan has a job and Mark Messier's name has not come up. Yet. 20 year anniversary of 94 next year right? :amazed:

I'm hoping Dallas offers Ruff the job before the Rangers press conference. What candidates do you like BN?

Did Torts lose "the room"? RT @FriedgeHNIC: Lundqvist comments after season "changed everything," according to a source.

So it could be
- Hanks comments leading to management wanting a more offensive system
- Management wanting a Richards buyout
- Management wanting Sullivan fired
I think a combination of the first two are the most likely culprits.

This^^

I think those are the only options.

When I heard Hank's comments I thought Torts' days might be very numbered. Past tense? He would not re-sign with Torts here. He's seen enough.

I wonder what this means for Sullivan.

Keep him here as he has done wonders for our D, but must get a PP coach.

I'm really shocked. I thought the shortened season would've given Torts some leeway. Now it all depends on who they bring in. I wouldn't mind Boucher. Maybe he could get Stamkos to come with him. ;-)

Ron Wilson would almost be a sensible option for New York. Way more talented than the Leafs teams he had and a goalie to erase a lot of the mistakes from playing a looser game.

On a side note, what was wrong with Tortorella? Seems like a guy with a lot of personal problems seeping into the job. Came across as inappropriately emotional, combative and bitter. What gives?

Ruff, Weight, Tippett (if he can get out of contract) in that order.

Buffalo was a high calibre offense when Ruff had some decent players. Well liked (anti Torts) which fits in with the "hire a guy who is the polar opposite of wjho we fired mantra".

Doug Weight can run a PP and has been the guy doing alot (most) of the strategy with the Isles according to many.

I know hiring an unknown is a risk, but this is not a veteran laden team who would not listen to a young guy.
There is some value to having a coach who can say "been there done that" to guys like Nash, Stepan, etc.

Tippett has worked magic with stars and Coyotoes although he is regarded as another defensive minded vcoach.

No AV please.

Interesting, was reading the Dallas Boards and apparently they said that the same station that broke the firing for AV has said Dallas will announce his hiring sometime next week.

AV would be more suited for the West IMO. He'll get burned in the East.
