What if I posted this info 2 days ago here? Halleluja - I am the happiest Guy on these boards right now. Thank God I never need to rgue with one of those Torts shill apologists again. Going to celebrate with some real fine champagne tonight. Best news ince... Yeah a long time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes yes yes. End of the Stone Age!

Until Sather brings in another coach who plays the same type of system.

Just more excuses for failure next season. .. New system, blah blah, blah...

Rangers would be best served staying away from nhl retreads that were recently fired. Go after someone like Quenville, or Babcock and see if they're interested and the clubs willing to let them talk...

Regarding new coaches: Eakins, Tippett seem like our top wants. Ruff/AV I don't think would do well here. Ruff is just a different version of Torts. AV will soften the team up too much.

As much as I agree with this, I also want them to take enough time to make the right decision.

Normally, when a team makes this type of move, they have to at least have someone in mind. For most coaches, this would be an ideal landing spot. Good team, tons of money, Original 6, etc.

Boucher
Ruff
Vigneault

All coming off disappointing stints.

At least Eakins is trending upwards, that's part of the allure.

I like Eakins, but I wouldn't be overly angry with Boucher.

Yep. Torts' fault. Not Avery's stubborn inability to grow past his own childish nonsense.

Please.

Agree; Torts' fault. Aves played on the edge. Torts the rigid has no patience for the edge. Unfortunately, hockey is played on the edge.

Very surprised by the timing of this!
Torts is a good coach, but at this point with this team, I doubt he could take them any higher. He HAD to go!
Lundqvist? I love him to death, but I just hope he wasn't the reason they fired Torts! Great goalie, playing in a great system, with a very good defensive core that suits him. However, he should just stop pucks. He's not remotely close to a Messier (who had Neilson) pedigree wise!

I liked Torts but this needed to be done. So excited to see what our team looks like when they teach puck possession instead of the 6 goalie system.

I would take the Lundqvist comments with a grain of salt.

Could they have had a hand in Torts being canned? Sure. But I imagine there was other reasons.

Wow. Totally shocked.

Hopefully whoever comes in gets the team to work their ass off and play with an edge.

Turning this into a soft, one dimensional team would be a step back.

Best of luck to Torts.

Did we just become a lottery team? Seriously though, this board has been spot on since the nash trade and even before that. Therefore, bring on eakins

Didn't see this coming, after the Gaborik trade, I was sure that the trade showed confidence in Torts and his system, and that he had another year minimum to stick around.

If I had to guess, Lundvquist has something to do with this, maybe saying that if he isn't fired, he won't re sign?

I'm not sure if I like it, it depends on who his replacement is, and what sort of system they employ. This team has a large amount of talent, they need a coach who can employ it. Torts wasn't the most likable guy, but he did get the team to the playoffs for the majority of his tenure, and had an overall good record with grooming and developing players(Krieder being the exception...)

Huge shakeup for the franchise, and intresting times ahead, that's for sure! I have no idea who his replacement is going to be, and I'm not even going to begin to guess.

Hahaha, some guy on Mike Francesca. "If there is a God, he will deliver Mark Messier as coach.

francesca is such a hockey hack. tries to apply his general sports knowledge to a sport he doesn't even follow...

I want to believe this. I really do. I just am not convinced that Sather isn't going to have final say and/or overrule Gorton on a coaching hire. Gorton is obviously doing the leg work here but who is to say Gorton hasn't proposed other moves that Sather nixed?

I see Gorton's hands on every recent move. I'm sure Sather has ultimate say but feels like he's actually taking some of that advice.

:shakehead

I was listening, he got one good call out of 10, that is why I don't listen to sports radio, today is an exception.

I just can't imagine Messier is ready to coach. I think he would offer a lot if the values needed to be instilled in a team from the coach but I don't know if he would have the methods to coach in the NHL. The game is different than when he played.
