I don’t think they will have to retain more than a million. Probably just take back cap for less term

Florida would be a great fit.Sounds like Matthew Tkachuk’s injury is pretty serious. If it keeps him out until the playoffs, that’s a 9.5 million dollar hole that Jones can fill.
I think Jones MIGHT consider Toronto or maybe even Edmonton if he is truely tired of losing and either were interested. Hard to see either team not being a playoff team over the length of Jones remaining contract (unless Stunley botches McDavid somehow). The fact that they even consider Canadian teams makes this article ass
Retain half send him to Washington for Ryan Leonard. Please

Use the Tkachuk cap for Jones this year
Let Ekblad walk for Jones to replace in lineup beyond this year
Main core is all signed to good deals and Bobrovsky contract expiring after 2025-26, giving them a lot of cap to use, so Jones $9.5 (or 9.5 -x with x = retention) is not a big deal.
I bet he’d waive for like 15 teams right now.I hope they don't trade him "where he wants to go" unless the deal is worth it for the Hawks. We shouldn't be doing him favours, and if he wants to only go to 2 or 3 teams, he stays until he opens it up a bit.
Yep. He holds a lot of cards with this, but so do we.I hope they don't trade him "where he wants to go" unless the deal is worth it for the Hawks. We shouldn't be doing him favours, and if he wants to only go to 2 or 3 teams, he stays until he opens it up a bit.
100%. But he’s got a NMC so you know it’ll get to that point.I hope they don't trade him "where he wants to go" unless the deal is worth it for the Hawks. We shouldn't be doing him favours, and if he wants to only go to 2 or 3 teams, he stays until he opens it up a bit.
Am very happy that Jones wants to move on (to a winner) and that the rapid projected cap rise makes Jones infinitely more moveable. That said, I don't think a deal gets done. Highly doubt KD is willing to eat 50% for 4 years. Maybe there's a deal to be had at eating $2-2.5M/yr, but it ain't gonna be easy. And I don't think Jones is gonna be ok with some clubs/places. We'll see.
He has already agreed to waive the NMC in his contract. This now opens the door for a number of more teams that might be interested. I don't he really cares if he goes to a Canadian or American team as long as he gets to play deep into the playoffs which would be 8 to 10 teams or so.
I think anyone talking about retaining 50% is crazy. But I could see CHI retaining 25%. Brings the cap down to 7.1M, 2.4M on the books for CHI. I think Jones at 7.1M would be very attractive to a lot of GMs in the league.
Ekholm? When was the last time a dman of SJs caliber was available at the TDL? Really feel that with the significant number of legit contenders without an elite team that a legit top pairing RHD would be in really high demand.

Jones already said himself that he is open to waive his NTC.Jones hasn't blanket-agreed to waive his NMC. That's not how it works. The Hawks will come to him and ask him to waive for a specific team and then Jones will agree to waive or not.
