Well there ya go. Was not expecting this at all. Good luck Torts. Wonder who they bring in?

A close friend and Bruin fan (a cool Bruin fan) asked me yesterday afternoon if Torts would be fired.

I said "nah, not likely, we'll see if he can change the on-ice strategy up to improve the offensive flow...".

Wow.

A coach who can take a team to the playoffs but can't seem to win a cup to save his life? Real big change from Torts.

Before AV was fired, VAN fans were complaining about the same exact things we've been complaining about with Torts. Playing favorites, not being able to adjust, being out coached all the time...AV is a new face with the same problems. If they fired Torts for him I think they made a big mistake.

A coach doesn't play on the ice.

Take a look at his record before posting.

Whoever the Rangers hire will be hated by more than half the posters at this time next year.

Hank should get to interview the coaching candidates, and I'm not even kidding.

He doesn't like playing young players. He has had problems with both Kassian and Hodgson in his time in Vancouver. His teams dive all over the place. He is not a good offensive coach. He was blessed with the Sedins.
Kassian didn't play because he was terrible. Hodgson played plenty, but he was unfortunately caught behind two pretty good centers.

Don't want AV or Ruff, wouldn't mind Boucher, Tippet or Eakins. No Gernander and whatever we do can we please open up offensively?

I'm shocked.

But it had to be done.

There were way too many times, even last season, where the team looked completely uncoached for huge stretches. Not even going into the powerplay, this team needs to adopt a coherent and adaptable transition strategy. Not being able to break out of your own zone makes the game nearly impossible to win. It stifles offense and wears down the D.

I'll reserve jubilation until I see the new coach (and the roster tweaked) but I am glad Torts is gone.

We've had a players-coach who taught a strong system that wasn't effective and a dictator-coach who taught no system that was sometimes effective. I wonder what we end up with next...

“@TSNBobMcKenzie: With the NYR head coaching position now open, Alain Vigneault and Lindy Ruff are likely to be seen as the highest profile candidates.”

Richards should get another year under a better offensive coach. They will hire a more offensive coach and it will be painful to think what the next coach could've done with richards, nash, gaborik, the top 4 defensemen, and lundqvist. I think Del Zotto and Moore will benefit from this.

I dont think Torts was a bad coach. Hell he won a stanley cup but his style wont get this team lto a cup run. Now is teh time to let our offense spread its wings. We have offensive talent like nash stepan hagelin kreider and we have to let them have more freedom

He shouldnt imo b/c of that contract and the risks. Him sustaining an injury and not being bought out could be a nightmare beyond anything else

Kassian didn't play because Vigneualt doesn't like dealing with growing pains for the long-term health of the team.

Hodgson was pretty much ostracized by Vigneault for being weak mentally when he had a serious back injury to the point he asked to be traded instead of playing in Vancouver.
