I've liked Tippett for many years. He plays a similar blue collar style, not a whole lot of turnaround for a team that can't afford alot more, but I like that he gives the offense a new look.

Tippett is describing the impact of offensive zone possession time on the results that occur when a given player is on the ice. Player A can be a good defender, but if he is constantly defending instead of carrying the attack away from his net he is endangering the results of the team as a whole. Another implication of his statements is the value of defensemen with the ability to move the puck effectively.

Tippet thinks like me...or I think like Tippet. Haha.

Would love Tippet. Great coach.

Really?! Im actually super happy about this news. Torts needed to go and if you can't see that then you are either way too big of a homer or perhaps a dumb person. The system was just not working with this group of guys, not to mention half of the goals we got scored on were because of Hank being screened or a deflection off the shot blocker. This team had no power play, no offense and I was frankly tired of watching the "dump and chase" offense.

I'm rooting for AV or Eakins to be our coach.

It just casts a shadow of uncertainty. Big changes, that's all. And yes, I would say I like Torts a bit more then some people, but that doesn't make me dumb.
I agree with you that the system was getting a bit outdated for this team, but I thought Torts would get a chance at least until next season to shake things up. I honestly thought they'd chalk it down to the lockout.
Torts is a awesome guy and a good coach, wish him and his family all the best in his future.

Brooksie is really going to have to watch his back at every NYC bus stop now.

First all the people who are needling me, you can all go to...well, you know.

Don't want to get a ding for calling you all out on your constant "you were wrong you were wrong you're a dumbass you were wrong" crap, but its complete and total douchebaggery and you know it. show some class.

Torts failed on the PP, no argument, but other than that he did pretty damn well with this club. accelerated the development of our kids, showed accountability to his vets. etc.

Torts is a great coach, the all time winningest american coach. only a fool would say otherwise.

Torts failed on more than the power play. By his own admission the Rangers weren't ready for game 1 against Boston. Can you imagine that? A team that played in the Eastern Conference finals last season wasn't ready for 2nd round playoff series. I don't think anybody has called you a dumbass. You did however kill Renney for the same things you are defended Torts for. That isn't lost on anybody especially on a day Torts was fired.....Even today you think this is the wrong move....After seeing the results this past season....after reading Hank's comments.....You still wanted Torts back....

The winningest American coach in history.....who cares? I root for the Rangers not a coach.....

Yeeeesssss WOOOHHOOOOO!!!

Lmao @ Francesca being adamant about torts not getting fired, dude is clueless about hockey.

Torts is awful to play for. A good guy away from the rink but NO fun at all to be around. Very smart hockey guy but I played for him and ugh

Alain Vigneault would be refreshing.

Bruins fan coming in peace.

It would break my heart to see Alain Vigneault take over an original 6 franchise, and in a tough city like NY. You would become montreal south. Specifically, diving all over the place, and watching your team get their heads turned into human speed bags. But, he'll fix your PP.

Can Sather fire himself now?

What is this, the 5th firing of a coach under him?

This is a desperate, stupid move on the surface. Unless he completely lost the room and some other things happened I do not approve. He's a half season away from winning a conference and made the playoffs the last 3 seasons.

Im actually really pissed right now.

Who's the replacement... make your cases... I dont see it being much better.

****ing Sather.

Yes, including himself once. Will be the 6th coach in 13 years.

I wonder what the problem is???

I may be reading too much into it, but I think this is because of Lundqvist, and we all know who would win this battle. I can't say I'm shocked, but this move is definitely going to bring about some major changes this off-season. Just don't hire Ruff.
