I wonder... did anyone knew that he has a cousin who plays hockey?
Quinn Tavares, his first draft eligible year was this years draft.
- did not get drafted

Plays in the OJHL.

He is also from MIssisauga, but quite the height difference;
Quinn is 5 foot 5.

JT at this point is one of the most underrated players. All I heard last year was he had the worst contract and was washed up. 15th highest scoring C last year with 2nd line usage. He was also fantastic at F/Os and a real top puck retriever

Hmm 15th highest scoring C but 3rd highest AAV for C's. Yeah, that's terrible value but he's a real top puck retriever so totally worth it I guess.

Yeah but if he had 1st line TOI he'd be way higher.

This is the type of stuff that makes Tavares overrated. So much BS defense for his lack of production.

He got 1st line ice time. Saying he didn't get 1st line ice time is like saying Malkin never got 1st line ice time because he plays behind Crosby.

There's always an excuse for Tavares not producing up to the supposed hype. Always.

I'd call Tavares underrated at this point. He is still a very good player. It's not his fault that he's overpaid by $3 mil. It's not totally his fault that losing in the playoffs follows him around, and his old team had 2 big runs after he wasn't brought back. But I can see why these things bring him a lot of criticism.

He's clearly used as 2nd line C with 2nd line usage. He had 76 points, so not quite a lack of production.
All he does is get criticized.

And there's the disrespect we're talking about. Tavares was just the 121st player to hit 900 points during the NHL's 106 year history, so yes it's absolutely thread
Well, its 2 players a year that reaches that. When he reaches 1000, itd a bigger happening. He is declining superhard though, wo we will see if he catches that. Probably he does in 2024

He plays on the top PP unit and gets usually 18-20 minutes per game. That's not second line usage.

He got a whopping 30 seconds less per game than Johnny Gaudreau. He got more per game than Kaprisov and Tkachuk. He got roughly what Stamkos got. Are all those guys getting 2nd line ice time? And if it is 2nd line ice time, it didn't prevent any of those guys from blowing him out of the water in production.

76 points isn't good production for someone making $11 million per year, no matter how much some fans want to insist it is. Unless you're also bringing Bergeron/O'Reilly/Kopitar-level defense to go with that production, that's actually terrible production for that kind of money.

The cap is about the entire roster. that's where people get confused about 4 players 40 million. Michael Bunting got 63 points with 950K cap hit. JT could have had 85-90 points easy with 1st line usage.

Not sure there is much of an argument against Tavares being overpaid, but that's a separate topic. 900pts isn't as big of a deal as 1,000pts, but it still is a fairly big deal. Only about 120 or so players in the history of the NHL (more than 100 years) have hit that milestone.....so it is fairly significant.
