He was a franchise player who is now the third best player on the team and a lot of people think they'd be better without him and his contract.

It was his choice and it's 900 points. Who cares.

As far as I'm concerned, this should be front page news on every outlet and should've ushered in a golden age of world peace. A new utopia should have emerged due to everyone coming together and singing Kumbaya over this sacred moment.

Let's actually all have a moment of prayer and acknowledgement over mankind's greatest triumph - John Tavares's 900th point.

Mankind, WE DID ITTTTT!!!!

Tavares could conceivably finish his career with 525 goals and 1250 points, possibly even more.

It’s mildly surprising how uninteresting the journey has been.

You’re right they should put up a banner for him every 10 points. Big ceremony before the following home game when he hits each milestone.

John Tavares used to be one of the most highly regarded active hockey players just a few years back and when he accoplished something special it would be front page news. Well not anymore as John Tavares just hit 900 career points in one of the most unnoticable way possible...

No mention of it on the front page of NHL.com... No thread so far on HFBoards until this one... Usually NHL.com mentions stuff like this in the headline of the recap. But now the headline reads: "Coyotes top Maple Leafs on Gostisbehere late goal for first win". Usually they would have something like: "Tavares hits 900 points in brutal Maple Leafs loss". The only mention NHL.com makes is in the notes at the very end of the article were they say that Tavares hit 900 points with an assist on Nylander's goal.

And HFBoards used to be filled with Tavares fans keeping us up to date with facts about Tavares and his accomplishments. But nowadays my fellow Leafs fans can't wait for the day Tavares' contract is over and Islanders fans have totally shunned Tavares ever since he signed with the Leafs. And the rest of the neutral fans don't seem to care.

Has anybody else fallen from grace into the "not giving a shit territory" quite like Tavares?

Meh - at least he's well paid.

Tell him to put it on his pajamas and maybe it can come true like his dream of failure becoming his legacy

And there's the disrespect we're talking about. Tavares was just the 121st player to hit 900 points during the NHL's 106 year history, so yes it's absolutely thread worthy!

Is there anything that Mulletman would consider not thread worthy?

Seriously.

900 points is nice but it’s not that big of deal. 1000 points is the milestone that will get people talking.

Agreed. There is a clear anti-Leafs bias on this forum and it needs to stop. NOW.

Remember when the entire forum LOVED Tavares when he was an Islander? Typical.

The narrative on Tavares is

Going from a superstar shinning beacon face of a franchise to a overpaid secondary role player villain.

It wasn't necessary a bad move to ciment his legacy if toronto won a cup or something.

The issue is TML underachieving every year since his arrival.

He bet and he won money. but he also lost rep in the process.

We love Tavares, the contract sucks but he's a great player. We are waiting for the cap to rise, not his contract to expire. His deal was signed before covid and the cap was expected to rise quite a bit, obviously that didn't happen.

The fact of the matter is, he plays for Toronto and you either love the Leafs or hate them, there's no in between. Fans of other teams have been pretty vocal about how they feel about Tavares, so it's not a surprise.
